ok so i should let someone shoot me because its morally wrong to defend myself
can you read
multiple people breaking into your house isn't threatening?
lankist not all of are invincible like you
For someone who is suppose to be educated he is awfully ignorant.
You don't get to make that fucking call.
You don't decide who lives and dies.
If they have a weapon, they apparently do. If I deem somebody a reasonable threat to my life or the life of my family, then I get to decide to take action. That is the law, and that is common sense. I don't have to throw my life away because "maybe they won't hurt me".
multiple people breaking into your house isn't threatening?
No, it isn't.
They're probably there for the stuff and they're more than welcome to have it. I've got insurance.
Hey guy, you're gonna rob me? Ok, I'm going to leave and go get a slim jim at the cornerstore because that is preferable to having a fucking wild-west showdown in my bathroom wherein I provoke you into doing something you previously wouldn't have done. You can have my fucking Seinfeld box set
If they have a weapon, they apparently do.
IF

Yeah and you don't speak for the rest of us. If you want people to take your shit while you sit and cower in a corner then so be it. That is your right, but you don't speak for the other people who don't want to become victims.
I'm pretty sure Lankist isn't saying to get on your knees and get ready for an execution especially how he said "do what you have to do", he's just saying don't immediately shoot someone just because they entered the house, point the gun at them, threaten them, but unless they come at you or try to take out a weapon/holding one and don't listen to your threats then don't just shoot them.
Unless I read your posts wrongs but I'm pretty sure that's what I'm getting at?

that's great but i have a right to defend myself and my stuff

It's not like he could be concerned about a witness escaping out the back or anything, this is a foolproof plan after all.

hey these robbers are acting really violent now that I'm brandishing a weapon at them!
motherfuckers here do not understand the concept of escalation.

Not your stuff, you don't.
Your stuff is not worth a life.
Fuck your stuff.
I don't care if they burn everything you own to the ground, you don't have the right to kill.

And no one did?
It's not like he could be concerned about a witness escaping out the back or anything, this is a foolproof plan after all.
Uhhhhhh robbers rarely kill people.
They're usually pretty happy when people run, because they'd rather go down for robbery than murder.
Have you ever been robbed or mugged, EVER?
Thieves do NOT want to hurt people. That makes their score entirely worthless and puts them on the run for the rest of their lives.
No, it isn't.

Why isn't it threatening? If several guys with baseball bats break into your house you're not even gonna be slightly concerned about your safety?
I mean I think I get the point you're trying to make but that's some strange wording

some scumbag trying to leech off other people and scaring families? ya i'd say my shit is worth more than him/her
and i do mean my literal shit from my ass
It's not like he could be concerned about a witness escaping out the back or anything, this is a foolproof plan after all.
are you serious
you don't think keeping a charge from escalating from robbery to murder is worth greater chance of being caught
hey these robbers are acting really violent now that I'm brandishing a weapon at them!

I've never heard of any type of robbery that is non-violent. Usually robberies involve weapons, threats against someones person and physical violence, property damage, etc.

ROFL dude, now you're just pulling shit out of your ass.
Two robberies in my area just within this fucking month ended up horribly. None of the people acted violently, they gave the robbers what they wanted. Then the robbers shot and killed the clerks. No good reason, they got what they wanted. Now once is facing charges of capital murder and the other one is on the run still.

I'll totally be worried about my safety.
That's why I'd fucking run.
What I wouldn't do is escalate the situation to violence by waving a gun around.
If I run, odds are nobody's going to get hurt.
If I escalate the situation, someone is definitely going to get hurt.
I've never heard of any type of robbery that is non-violent. Usually robberies involve weapons, threats against someones person and physical violence, property damage, etc.
Robbery by definition is violent.. it's legally different from regular theft
I've never heard of any type of robbery that is non-violent.
Uhh most robberies happen in unoccupied locations, so you clearly haven't done much thinking on this point.

Fucking thank you!!! This thread got fucking stupid at page 2.
I. Get. To. Defend. My. Shit.
Whether the threat is violent or not, any act that threatens life or property is, by the definition of the Non-Aggression Principle, an aggressive act. I have every right to defend myself and my property against aggressive acts. Please, please, please read about the Non-Aggression Principle before you decide what rights a property owner does and does not have.

What am I being robbed by the italian mafia all of the sudden?
He's going to murder me, and face possibly getting life in prison for murder so I don't send him up the creek for stealing like 2000 dollars in electronics?
Criminals aren't comic-book villains.

I've had my house broken into twice, though I wasn't there at the time. I can say this however: nobody is advocating shooting an unarmed burglar on sight. If they are armed, they are a threat. If they aren't armed, then hold them at gunpoint until the cops arrive. I'm not leaving just because I can't confirm if they are willing to shoot me or not. If you want to lay down and take it up the ass, then by all means, do it.

wow two whole robberies
I may be pulling shit out of my ass, but you can take your anecdotes and shove them up yours.

Got bad news for you: everyone decides for themselves what rights they think others should have already.
Uhh most robberies happen in unoccupied locations, so you clearly haven't done much thinking on this point.
Then it isn't a robbery if in unoccupied locations. It is theft, burglary, etc
If it is in a unoccupied location then someone does not have to worry about getting shot do they? Obviously it takes two people to escalate a situation, one person can't do it on their own.
Have you ever been robbed or mugged?
Yes.
I gave them what they wanted and they left.
And nobody got hurt.
I didn't fucking escalate the situation by turning it into fucking Tombstone.
