I'm pretty sure Lankist isn't saying to get on your knees and get ready for an execution especially how he said "do what you have to do", he's just saying don't immediately shoot someone just because they entered the house, point the gun at them, threaten them, but unless they come at you or try to take out a weapon/holding one and don't listen to your threats then don't just shoot them. Two robberies in my area just within this fucking month ended up horribly. None of the people acted violently, they gave the robbers what they wanted. Then the robbers shot and killed the clerks. No good reason, they got what they wanted. Now once is facing charges of capital murder and the other one is on the run still.

I can say this however: nobody is advocating shooting an unarmed burglar on sight. If they are armed, they are a threat. If they aren't armed, then hold them at gunpoint until the cops arrive. It is theft, burglary, etc If it is in a unoccupied location then someone does not have to worry about getting shot do they?
