I think we are rushing into this a little foolishly. Just because they have acknowledged porn, in no way means that's it's good for porn, or free speech. This compartmentalization seems to have some ominous implications. As long as it stays open like the other domains, I guess it's not too bad, but if all porn starts to be forced into this domain, I can see only bad coming from it.
www.goatse.xxx URL just made three times better
Even though the article is new, this is extremely late. [img_thumb]http://grab.by/grabs/37242c7d0bd4c8be5ea37d39229ca7c6.png[/img_thumb]
Wrong — it was approved just today in a rather heated debate! Don't always trust Wikipedia, man  http://www.icann.org/
ICANN's Silicon Valley meeting, held at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, concluded 18 March with the public meeting of its Board of Directors. The ICANN community handled a wide array of Internet policy issues, including: • ICANN's next public meeting will be held in Singapore, June 2011. • The Board intends to complete the process for final approval of the New gTLD implementation program at an extraordinary meeting of the ICANN Board to be held on Monday, 20 June 2011, at the ICANN public meeting in Singapore. • The Board endorsed all 27 of the recommendations made by the Accountability and Transparency Review Team, and requested ICANN Staff to prepare implementation plans. • The period for accepting public comments about the process for creating new GNSO constituencies was extended. • The Board supported entering into a Registry Agreement with ICM, approving .XXX as a new top-level domain. For details (and decisions on many other topics), refer to the Board resolutions.
I predict PenIsland.com's hits reducing drastically.
As long as it stays open like the other domains, I guess it's not too bad, but if all porn starts to be forced into this domain, I can see only bad coming from it.
I think it could reduce the amount of soccermoms calling for Internet censorship of anything even remotely sexual
Whoever buys the porn.xxx domain then sells it will be a rich man.
Indeed. I'm actually ready to buy it it it's available.
I've read several times in old books/news that this was going to happen several years ago. Why did it not?
Indeed. I'm actually ready to buy it it it's available.
And every other person who's not totally broke :) Going to be like auction sniping.
Quickly everyone buy up domains and squat them.
the fuck can they do? if you run your own name server or use a proper one without censorship they can't block it unless they resolve every single domain under .xxx and block their IPs, which I have a feeling would piss a lot of people off.
maybe read up a bit and see that i didn't kick off the blocking discussion
aawwwww yeeeee
Fuke yes
www.facepunch.xxx :v:
www.FapPunch.xxx
1. Register www.xxx.xxx 2. Wait 10 years 3. Sell for massive profit Someone's bound to do it
Won't this make it even easier to track and block?
Totally gonna buy se.xxx
I think it could reduce the amount of soccermoms calling for Internet censorship of anything even remotely sexual
So soccermoms will be happy because of this? That's exactly why it's ominous. I hate how society feels the need to classify and categorize everything it's uneasy about, so that all middle ground is annihilated. Time and time again, sex has been pushed farther and farther away from the public eye; it's still available, but now you have to cross from "normality" to get to it, and it's so concentrated, it makes you want to puke. Why did ICANN do this? I'd like to hear the reasoning. I can only see this weakening porn and free speech.
Well this should help sort out the porn websites from nice and friendly regular websites. How wonderful. Though it'll be a bitch to go on them when someone else can read your browsing history.
first of all, private mode second, don't you think people know what redtube and youporn is? Not only does it make it easier to find porn, it also makes it easier to avoid when at work/school.
Totally gonna buy se.xxx
Good luck getting that in time
Did anyone even read the article?
it also does not unite the pornography industry. The FSC (Free Speech Coalition) states that it will create a lot of problems, such as higher fees for webmasters, easier censorship in repressive states/countries, and a TLD that is way too easily recognizable by minors.

he [the ICM Registry CEO] stated that "a TLD made exclusively for adult entertainment will give us more control over the content, and for every website added to the list, we will give out $10 to child safety initiatives", while also telling us that they would be selling the domain names for $60.
I'll ask again, what is really the positive thing about this TLD, why is it necessary? Is porn really that hard to find now? Not really. If you search the .xxx domain, you're still going to get the same shit you find with a "porn" search on google. Is porn so evil and gross that we need to have our browsers automatically filter it out? I personally don't think it's a good idea to have some centralized organization in charge of the internet's porn, as is suggested by the ICM Registry's CEO himself. And what the fuck are "child safety initiatives". This reeks of social evil.
Why did ICANN do this? I'd like to hear the reasoning. I can only see this weakening porn and free speech.
The same reason we have .biz for business, .org for organisations... Not that anyone uses .biz or anything though.
Here comes a ton of ISPs blocking these domains.
oh man oh man this is bad
Why is everyone so excited about this? I don't want all my nice sounding porn sites to be found out if people browse my history!
nobody's forcing you to host your porn site at .xxx you can still host it under any other domain too stop freaking out
Good idea: Distribute software that blocks .xxx domains Bad idea: ISPs block .xxx domains
Why is everyone so excited about this? I don't want all my nice sounding porn sites to be found out if people browse my history!
1.you could clear your history of porn 2.if you're on chrome you can turn on incognito mode
1.you could clear your history of porn 2.if you're on chrome you can turn on incognito mode
"Private Browsing" on firefox, as well...
