I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either
This is a pretty legit use case (I don't do this, I stream, but I do keep a couple dozen albums locally in case of weak signal or whatever). Also 4K video recording is the norm now. 64 GB really should be the "low-end" for onboard storage on Android by now.
Pretty impressive, but it's not even close irl to the promotional renders in terms of the bezels.
that's a weird looking crop, here's a video where it looks a little better, still not as good as the renders obviously
I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either
I can't get my entire music collection in mp3 on my phone.
Best thing out of Xiaomi is their cheap as fuck powerbanks
Where do you get your power banks? It seems the shipping on most websites kills me. I tried GearBest and the shipping was more than the power bank.
I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either
I'm sure that's great on the mediocre DAC on your phone.
Looks nice, but I'm clumsy enough that I'll always want to have a case. Not sure how that would work without a bezel.
Jesus, it looks like the screen will shatter if you even look at it too hard. I love the bezel-less design this has and I'll prob grab it to be part of the ~future~ when my current phone dies. I bought a cheap shit Chinese phone and it's amazing, the Elephone P9000. Two sim slots with an SD capacity up to 256gb, 4gig of RAM, a snazzy CPU, and NFC/wireless charging, only cost £180 too. Only problem is the lack of third party accessories. I just want a hard case for it god dammit.
I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either
Convert it before putting it on your phone. Vorbis is probably the best format to convert to right now; even the highest quality setting will still be half the size of flac, and even that's super overkill for phones, I'd recommend setting 5 prolly. Just duplicate your music folder, run a script to recursively convert and then delete flacs. It's what I do, flacs on desktops, .oggs on phone.
I'm sure that's great on the mediocre DAC on your phone.
Honestly the DACs are perfect on most smart phones anymore. Better sound than you'll get out of many computer sound cards. Mobile sources have some advantages. If you really think you have a problem with them there's USB external DACs like the e07k that make a difference.
Really cool looking phone.
I'm sure that's great on the mediocre DAC on your phone.
This phone has a real DAC in it, so it should help out. My current phone has a fairly high quality DAC, can natively play 32bit/192kHz wav files (but in reality that doesn't mean anything if it plays them super colored), and it is like night and day even between 44.1kHz flac files and mp3s. Bare in mind I have been in the music industry my whole life, so my ears are trained for this type of stuff, but there is a significant improvement between lossless files and even the best destructive compression, even on normal phones. When you can bypass all of the shitty chips though, phones like this can revolutionize your mobile listening experience, even on subpar headphones.

Granted, it's not an insane difference to me, but it's enough to where I can notice it. Phone DACs have definitely come a long way, just as onboard PC audio has as well. You really don't need a dedicated sound card for PC anymore (just get a decent DAC/Amp), and unless you have some hard to drive headphones, you really don't need a dedicated DAC/Amp for mobile devices either.
How much do people even use? I still have a 16 GB iPhone but i only hit my limit with Spotify and playing larger 3D games such as GTA, photos and videos are automatically removed and put into iCloud
I have an enormous collection of music in .mp3 and .flac format (although i don't put flac files on the phone) and thus far I've filled ~90GB of my ~140GB storage.
I wish they'd make a smaller more manageable version. Who wants a 6.4 inch smart phone :/
I wish they'd make a smaller more manageable version. Who wants a 6.4 inch smart phone :/
It's roughly the same size as an iPhone 7+
And I thought my Note 4 was big lol
Looks like one of those Sharp Aquous phones. Not saying it's bad though, it's actually pretty slick design and it should definitely step further into the mainstream. And with price like that it's certainly possible.
MKBHD talks about it
i'd love to get one, it's going to be made in limited numbers sold only in china. however it will probably pave the way for similar phones to go on the international market, and if i can snatch one up online for a decent price i might.
Just to let everyone know, yes the back on the phones' camera is made out of 18K gold.
I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either
Why not convert it to Opus?
Just to let everyone know, yes the back on the phones' camera is made out of 18K gold.
Only on the 256gb model I thought?
Only on the 256gb model I thought?
Oh I thought it only had a 256 gb model. I am not sure about the other versions. It's still a top of the line phone if it's cheaper $500. It'd definitely be cool.
Why not convert it to Opus?
It's a lot easier to just download the flac format from bandcamp then put it on my phone. Yes there are better options but drag and drop is just a lot easier then drag and drop then drag and drop again. And maybe like 10 gigabytes of the music I have is in FLAC. my 32gb microSD can't even hold the stuff I have on MP3. "Why not stream?" Because you can't leave populated areas or go into some buildings(target, ikea, some parts of some of my classrooms) and still expect 4GLTE with T-Mobile. Also I'd rather not pay for spotify just to get almost the same convenience I get by just having music on my phone for free
I'd probably just buy a case like always which would handle that for me.
then what would be the point in buying a phone without a bezel?
then what would be the point in buying a phone without a bezel?
Then you don't have to deal with case+bezel, just case width.
