Tell me what it must be like knowing all of them personally :]
It doesn't take knowing them personally since they are some of the most observed people on the planet. This is like when someone says "You can't say the food is bad, you don't know how to cook it!"

No, it's like saying "You can't say that food is bad, you haven't tried it."
because all republicans are racist old white men who hate poor people
if you consider yourself a republican and you're not being represented by the group in congress you helped elect, what are you at that point
it doesn't matter what the people are, it's their electorates that matter.
No, it's like saying "You can't say that food is bad, you haven't tried it."
No, its really not. We can watch their actions and the things they say and who they interact with and make judgements based off of that. You don't need to know them personally, especially in the information age.
Seriously, you are such a massibe apologist, its not even funny.

I'd go with choosing between what you deem the lesser of two horrible choices. If you agreed with one side 51% more than the other, wouldn't you pick that one?
Thank you congress, eat shit.
Fuck. I'm in a middle class family.

I know that feel man, my mother was laid off in June due to budget cuts, and is currently going back to get her masters degree, but cannot find a job due to a internship required by the school.

Well my Mom and dad both have what is considered government jobs, but seeing as I haven't made my break into this world, I'm more worried about what this will mean for my future.
I know shit will be tough, but seriously, going over the cliff will literally save this country in the long run :v:
THANK YOU
fucking finally
THANK YOU
fucking finally
I've been saying this almost every time it has been brought up. Though I typically focus more on the political side wherein the GOP is left in shambles because half the country blames them for the problem.
Considering it's less a "fiscal cliff" and more a "gentle fiscal incline", I'm really not worried if we go careening over it.
Huge cuts to social security along with a tax rise on everyone would be extremely damaging to low-income families.
But 450k as a total income for a family isn't low-income at all...
I'm sorry but what's so important about the fiscal cliff? Aren't tax rises and spending cuts exactly what the country needs?
The big concern is as to who will get the extreme tax hikes. It's so hard for the lower and middle classes to be forced to fork out more in taxes. For example, in my family for me to receive any financial aid it's nearly impossible because I'm in that awkward grey area where my dad makes too much money, yet he can't afford to help me with school so my EFC (Expected Family Contribution) rating prevents me from getting any decent aid. This is just one of the situations that screws over lower income families. Getting taxed more only makes these situations difficult.
I'm all for more taxes, but Obama's original plan was more friendly to those who really are in need. Such as us college students.
But 450k as a total income for a family isn't low-income at all...
Going over the "fiscal cliff" would apply large tax raises to all families, including low-income ones. The deal that Obama has been trying to cut would raise taxes of high-income families (originally defined as families earning over $250k per year), while preserving tax cuts and benefits to low-income families. However, conservative party members disagreed with this course of taxation, and have been stonewalling for quite some time, leading us to this precarious mess we're in now, likely in an attempt to force the Obama administration into offering the sort of bill we see here, which hugely widens that income bracket to redefine "wealthy families" as those earning almost half a million or more each year.
Likewise, we'd see large cuts in many important social services, which would only add insult to injury for families struggling to stay above the waterline.
How many hours do they have left?
4 hours assuming EST.

And even to the end, people are immature, flinging shit at eachother and trying to pin the blame on anyone they possibly can.

i think congress should carpet bomb the military's budget
I think no one should get carpet bombed
If America needs money, they could always hold a bake sale to raise enough money to buy an fighter jet.

BBC's Mark Mardell wrote an interesting article about how the US's political system is actually designed to be slow and gridlocked, and it's working as intended right now
What he didn't mention is the fact that anyone who opposes carpet bombing the Capitol Building is a fascist
Senate Republicans emerging from a party meeting said they expected to attempt a vote before midnight, suggesting that they would agree to a two-month pause on the automatic cuts.
Analysts say if the effects of the fiscal cliff are allowed to take hold, they could spark a new US recession. But if a bill passes both the Senate and the House over the new year holiday, the impact is likely to be minimal.
Hopefully they'll get this shit done
Hopefully they'll get this shit done
Knowing them however..... it probably won't.
Deal has been reached.
