That's actually amazing. If L4D3 or HL3 or whatever the first game to get released on source 2 runs better than it's source 1 predecessor on the potato PC I have I'll be stunned.

But Dota 2 is already on/being ported to Source2

afaik they announced so early its not considered source 2, so a new ip would be the first officially announced source 2 game (dota refers to it as an engine overhaul)

But it is source 2, and it has been the first game to be announced to use source 2.
Dota 2:Source2 was scheduled for "release" in march.

The map-making software runs on source 2. DOTA is still definitely playing on Source 1. DOTA is the first game to announce that it will be ported, but that still seems like a decent ways off.

It's Source 2. It's 64-bit, has a different console, and is a little less optimised.

workshop tools runs the actual game in source 2. it is already ported. you can play a normal match.

if you get hyped because you think valve is working on another half life because they throw props from hl into a scene to test vr you've officially lost your marbles
What casual player is going to spend $1000+ on a home console though?
I plan on buying the Nvidia Shield set top box for my home theater/living room (casual gaming and movies etc...). And major/hard core games I want to play on my PC via Steam.
On a side note - Android TV is catching up quickly to consoles and it's not surprising in the slightest. Although we're no where near the graphics quality of said consoles. But that's because the hardware isn't there yet but I don't think it will take long.

Kotaku and their sensationalist yet technically correct titles. Urgh.
what is sensationalist about it
what is sensationalist about it
Its only as sensationalist as you make it.
if you get hyped because you think valve is working on another half life because they throw props from hl into a scene to test vr you've officially lost your marbles
If you think Valve isn't working on HL3 that's a whole different kind of "lost your marbles" though. It's kinda funny people go apeshit about it. Of course it's being worked on, it was never really a question of if but when.
I'm not pointing at you, though. Just a general view I have about it, you just managed to bring it up.
What people don't realise is that half life 2 is already in VR
Dota 2:Source2 was scheduled for "release" in march.
It is scheduled to release on or before July 2nd.

If your GPU gets driver support for Vulkan, then those games will potentially run a lot better than on their OpenGL (or certainly DirectX) counterparts, even if they're not equally as optimized.

Yeah, assuming the games are moved to Vulkan even remotely well, some games should see a great performance increase.
BF4 with mantle was amazing, I get a 80% (!) increase in performance when mantle is enabled, this is probably due to my combination of older CPU with newer r9 290 though. Hopefully with an even more developed standard and dedicated developers, we can see games having similar performance increases (Which if the Dota 2 60 FPS on Intel integrated is anything to go by, then yes); at worst we might see bad developers messing up closer to hardware, so we might see some weird GPU crashing in the future.
Soo what happened? Did it end?
Soo what happened? Did it end?
Yes, it's over.
We might see some stuff post-GDC as developers follow up on their announcements; you can also grab a GDC Vault account (For the low low price of $495!) if you want to actually get the video and slides from all the super cool stuff that happened.

Valve was unlikely to announce a game at GDC anyway, if you're going to hype then wait for E3 in 3 months (June 16-18); that'll be the time if any for them to announce a new project at a large event; The only other option is to wait for more information via the slow trickle of leaks and whitepapers.
Valve did announce a lot of great stuff at GDC though. There's the news about Steam Link, which may be a great solution to the console problem for some, there's the new Steam controller that we've seen, which may or may not work great. Who's to tell yet, but we've seen it now.
Then there's the fact that Source 2 is a thing, and Valve has announced it to be freely available, and Gabe Newell even said it won't have any license or royality issues. What that means exactly has yet to be determined, but that's quite a bomb to drop already.
Then there's the lot of games coming to SteamOS (and hence Linux), including (but not limited to) the first commercial racing game for Linux, at least the first one that isn't total shit. And a lot more stuff, so all in all, I believe GDC 2015 netted a good round of great stuff from Valve, even if it wasn't all directly game related.
looking at the steam page for the vive, it seems quite a bit longer than the angle suggests
