At least this shows the passion that the community still holds for Valve and their games, hopefully they will give us something as a "sorry"?
If you know valve you know full well they happily say "stop getting hyped" and proceed to do nothing of interest
Valve's still working on Steam Machines?
I thought that was scrapped since the companies like Alienware released their version but with Windows (Alienware Alpha).
The Steam Machine concept never hinged on users being unable to install a different OS on it, quite the opposite in fact.

i think he's referring to how a lot of hardware companies got mad that valve delayed the release of the steam machines though.
remember like a year ago, they all had the preliminary steam machine designs finished, and just required valve to officially release the controller/OS? well... what even came of it?

Valve simply jumped the gun with hooking them into it prematurely without having the software ready but it's not like it has any effect on Steam Machines at all as the idea is that Steam machines are going to be largely independent on the hardware anyway and there's always going to be somebody willing to do the hardware for them.
In retrospect and in context of nextGl/VULKAN, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve put the Steam Machines on hold back then when they realised Linux OpenGL drivers and OpenGL in general are kinda meh, and that they are going to just wait with Steam Machines until VULKAN is ready, as VULKAN might give actual performance edge as well as driver quality guarantees since effort by Nvidia and ATI won't be that necessary when the access to GPUs is more direct.

I went through that phase too.
Nope. Honestly it has fallen into the line somewhere between maybe picking up on a sale or just reading the Wikipedia plot summery. I seriously do not give a single shit about the story of Half Life anymore. I am more interested in seeing what the game is like from a gameplay standpoint with Source 2 than I am with the story. I'd probably be more excited about Portal 3 than I would about hl3.

Did this really just happen? Did they just announce Source 2?
well shit there goes my sleep
Steam Link allows you to stream all your Steam content from any PC or Steam Machine on the same home network.
To...your television? To another box to receive mouse input? Is it to take off the stress from my machine streaming it normally?
i panicked for a second at the name and price, I thought they decided to monetize in-home streaming and make it something like iTunes match subscription service
Apparently there was a source 2 trailer with crowbars in it.

The entire press release seems very poorly written. I too thought they were rebranding in-home streaming, but it seems to just be a chromecast like device.
Can anyone verify the press release? Any alternative sources?
I assume they will be showing a Source 2 demo in the near-future, now that it's fully been announced?

The Steam Link seems to be a small computer that you can hook up to your TV through HDMI. It has an Ethernet port so you can use Valve's in-home streaming without hiccups. There's also two USB ports to send input back to the PC you're streaming from. Think of Google's Chromecast but with 2 USB inputs and an Ethernet port.

We literally get press releases in the mail from Doug Lombardi.
the existing photos are 3d renders...right?
I think that Vulkan is going to be as successful as Glide was!
hey, starsiege tribes was good
So, no new games? Only Source 2? Kinda disappointing but Source 2 is still pretty big. At least they have to announce a game soon to showcase the engine.

There's still the glNext conference hosted by Valve on the last day.
It's not really a 'games' convention, anyway. If they were to reveal anything this year it'd probably be E3 or Gamescom.

So I guess now is either the make it or break it point for Half-Life 3.
They've built themselves the new development kit for a brand new engine, along with said engine, just like they did for half life and half life 2.
If they don't make it for source 2, I highly doubt it will ever happen by them.
So if anything were to happen, it will be from this point forwards.

tbh I wouldn't be surprised if L4D3 hit the shelves before the end of the year and HL3 came out later in 2016.

i suspect they'd port l4d2 and update it for source 2 instead of release another whole l4d game
I hope they show the changes to the authoring tools, and whether they got PBR working yet.

Or maybe the Half Life Source way, where they ported HL1 to Source as a test for users and made a new HL.
I wouldn't be surprised if they released L4D2: S2/L4D3 as a free example project as part of Source 2. It's unlikely, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Source 2 filmmaker please. Unreal Matinee is markedly too scary :v:
