source 2 filmmaker is basically already confirmed, probably just an update to the existing one
The Steam Link seems to be a small computer that you can hook up to your TV through HDMI. It has an Ethernet port so you can use Valve's in-home streaming without hiccups. There's also two USB ports to send input back to the PC you're streaming from. Think of Google's Chromecast but with 2 USB inputs and an Ethernet port.
made a quick backup of the steam link page while it's down. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17271080/steamlink/Steam%20Link%20on%20Steam.html 'read more' doesn't work but you get the basic point.
Valve simply jumped the gun with hooking them into it prematurely without having the software ready but it's not like it has any effect on Steam Machines at all as the idea is that Steam machines are going to be largely independent on the hardware anyway and there's always going to be somebody willing to do the hardware for them.
yeah you mean largely over jumped the gun. they had companies think they would be ready 1-2 years earlier than they actually would be. i'd be interested in seeing how nextGL works out, but i wouldn't hold my breathe for any new graphics APIs. they will all inevitably have the same problem that openGL has right now for the same reasons that openGL has problems (ie direct3D/windows is already the main API/platform for gaming). itd be neat if valve can get a lot of devs on board for linux development though, but given their track record of not caring about anybody and fucking everyone over - i don't have high hopes.
So, no new games? Only Source 2? Kinda disappointing but Source 2 is still pretty big. At least they have to announce a game soon to showcase the engine.
why would they announce games at a developer conference again
I just hate that all we hear about Source 2 is that "it's easier"
As long as new Hammer doesn't crash randomly every 10 minutes to 2 hours, this is pretty big for me.
Seems like Valves years of work are finally coming to a head and that's exciting.
I just hate that all we hear about Source 2 is that "it's easier"
You can see for yourself if you download the DotA 2 workshop tools. [editline]4th March 2015[/editline] Mainly if you count Nintendo's and Sony's consoles, which basically utilize quite different APIs altogether, but still distinctly based on OpenGL (SE).
I think HL3 will be revealed at this years E3. It's a controversial opinion, but I've never stated it myself ever before. Until now. We know they've been working hard on HL3 - they've confirmed that many times, and it makes sense to ship their flagship series with the new engine. We're nearing the end of how long the game can be developed before old assets get outdated, and lastly and most importantly it makes sense to wait so long with revealing the game if they've spent this time building a new engine from the ground up. [editline]4th March 2015[/editline] In fact it's the only way to make sense of Valves decisions.
I don't think Valve would ever reveal HL3 without a massive, enormous ARG.
There's still the glNext conference hosted by Valve on the last day.
The Vulkan overview PDF has a screenshot of a debugger Valve have been working on, with a scene from Dota 2 visible in the window... so don't expect to see anything non-Dota in any Valve Vulkan demos this GDC and you'll walk away happy.
I'd honestly like to see more techy stuff too but seeing we have to rely on Twitter on information for today's stuff, physics talks aren't being talked about at all. Which is because it's really technical stuff that the general public won't care about so the people there won't tweet about. I mean, this is the talk that came before Dirk's talk. There's no way some guy is live-tweeting his butt off with things like x = e−ζωt C1 sinωdt + C2 cosωd ( t) on the screen.
Especially since this just felt like a review of 4 semesters of calculus and semester of physics
Source 2 filmmaker please. Unreal Matinee is markedly too scary :v:
It's easy once you get the hang of the controls. The UI is still a mess tho. :v: [editline]4th March 2015[/editline] Unless it's changed. I last took a look at it like 8 months ago.
We know they've been working hard on HL3 - they've confirmed that many times,
They haven't confirmed anything. Literally all we know about HL3 is that some amount of devs were working on it at some point in the last couple years, and that there was one tiny reference to HL3 in the Source 2 code. Does that mean it's being actively worked on by a significant number of people? Fuck no, it could mean that they ported over a couple of HL3 maps from 2008 to test out some lighting effects in Source 2. The best evidence I've seen at all is that like a year ago somebody found a mailing list that had a bunch of people under HL3. But for all we know, that's just a mailing list for everybody who was working on it right after Episode 2's release. There's nothing substantial to say that they have done any significant amount of work on HL3 for the last 6 years. Remember how, at Valve, you can float between projects and work on whatever you want? That means that if there's more exciting things to work on, and nobody is interested in Half Life, Half Life just isn't going to happen. L4D3 makes much more sense anyway. They specifically talked about how they were experimenting with sweat sensors on your mouse to gauge your excitement and modify the AI director to fit that, and now they're saying that the VIVE has the same kind of sensors in it. L4D3 references have also been much more common in Valve leaks, and it would be a far less risky choice given all the idiocy surrounding the HL3 wait.

I find it in hilarious by the time Valve is actually finished with the Half life series and creates another well made game serious besides Left 4 dead or Portal. You are still going to have people bitch about it anyways, its basically a never ending cycle for Valve.
You can now edit skeletal animations in engine.
Well the model section of Facepunch would be freaking out by that. [editline]4th March 2015[/editline] The Toy soldier demo sounds fucking cool in the article.
I like the controller, don't like how it's glossy though.
What necessitates a steam controller?
What necessitates a steam controller?
Playing strategy games on your couch, for example. It's an alternative to keyboard and mouse control-heavy games. Much more than an Xbox controller, because of its trackpads. Also:
