why
because not every muslims is a bad person and it's bad to generalize them!! reeee
personally, to me, believing in a pedophile and rapist as a god is a mental illness of its own, but hey each to their own, if they want to run at people with guns, with a knife.. Good luck to 'em!

Statistically, most rapes are committed by men.
Therefore, to fight rapes, we must punish all men.
This sounds stupid, right? I hope you understand how broken and easily abusable your logic is
He needed a gun lmao. Dumbass used a knife.
Why wasn't the attacker killed? Then what's the purpose of soldiers guarding.
Dunno if this applies to French soldiers and police, but here in the US, police are trained to "stop the threat". They're not trained to shoot to wound or shoot to kill.

To clarify, did you just claim Muslims are mentally ill?
Like, to be Muslim one must be mentally ill?
Why wasn't the attacker killed? Then what's the purpose of soldiers guarding.
Uh what?
Soldiers and police aren't firing squads. The death sentence has been abolished in France for over 30 years now.
strikes me as the act of a loony, more than the act of a brainwashed person.
Sometimes there really isn't much of a difference between the two, with enough brainwashing, indoctrination or pressure you can make a person do anything, the mind is that easily susceptible.

you really need to learn more about Islam if you think they regard Muhammad as a god.
If Islam = terrorists then why isn't indonesia blown up every other day considering 12.7 percent of the world's muslims.

To be fair he's not calling every Muslim a terrorist there, he's just saying they are crazy for believing in a god or whatever, and from what I can gather, perhaps he thinks that leads them to being easily susceptible to radicalization, his point would be that it is ideology that contributes to radicalisation.

Or perhaps I'm reading to much into it.
Uh what?

In Brazil at least, cops do have permission to shoot someone if they are a threat to the cop, but most cops shoot to kill and not "shoot to contain".
EDIT: that's the only motive they are allowed to shoot at people.

Sometimes people say things so awful you have to do a sort of mental double take to make sure you heard what you just heard

Jokes are supposed to be funny.
I too enjoy dark, insulting humor, but if it isn't humorous, then its just dark and insulting

Well taste is subjective.
For instance you probably think your avatar was a good choice.
Yowza, don't think I can recover from that burn!
Paris just can't take a break, can it?
Apparently not.
Although this incident was resolved quickly enough. Considering Paris has a diverse population of more than 2.2 million people, they're not doing too bad.

Really shows the strength of your argument when you go straight for shitposting as soon as someone argues back.
Paris just can't take a break, can it?
tbh i don't really think this one is anything like other events we had here. There are far worse things happening anywhere else because of terrorism right now, than a stupid batshit crazy man attacking armed SOLDIERS with a knife. So in a weird way it's a relief, and i'd say Paris is pretty much okay right now.
Not trying in any way to underestimate the whole thing though, it's still crazy.

Why the fuck would i want to argue?
I made a joke and half a point about how you can pretty much expect a major act of violence in Europe these days to be Islamic in origin.
And so the butthurt brigade rushed the stage as expected. Then if i fuel the fire, the argument is going to play out like it always does- "you cant generalize an entire people", "But i can give you the exact quotes from the book that condones violence", "fascism, islamophobia, racist, bigot" etc. etc. What the fuck would be the point of that?

if you expected this then why did you bother posting, seems like too much trouble, as you've said yourself
Grasping at straws.

Plain and simple religious extremism.
arguably, religious extremism and mental health problems are the same thing.
arguably, religious extremism and mental health problems are the same thing.
No they aren't.
Perfectly sane people can follow extremist beliefs, and religion isn't responsible for most mental health issues. Arguably, in fact, several studies have proven that religious individuals have better mental health and a greater capacity to cope with the hardships of life, because it gives them a sense of purpose.

religious individuals aren't necessarily extremists, to become an extremist you need to be unhinged therefore your mental health is fragile.
Granted they're not the same but there is a link.

interesting view. Would someone being indoctrinated into a violent racist or fascist group be similarly burdened with bad mental health?
Allow me, if you would be so kind, to propose an alternative theory.
Consider a person who becomes a violent islamic extremist. A number of different factors will influence this but I believe 2 big ones are the identity provided by the group/cause he joins and the authority figure of the cult/group leader (and god). The extremist is wanting to fit into the group and the leader knows this, at first they will be reciting bs or giving speeches on why the west is bad but later they will be told to recruit people or do violence. Consider the milgram experiment where ordinary people would be prepared to kill because the authority figure tells them to - this was first used to demonstrate that not all people who helped the nazis were doing it for the cause, some where doing it because their leader told them to.
The identity thing is important as well I believe this is the chief factor for lone wolves. Usually troubled in someway with history of crime or mental health issues they seek to be part of something greater than themselves. The act they do is a way of proven to the group and themselves that they are worthy of being in the group.
This is all theory tho so feel free to dismiss it or whatevs

I am always willing to discuss an alternative but you have a very condescending approach.

I suppose it's subjective whether or not you feel that religious extremists are of sound mind, you wouldn't indoctrinate someone who is sane, someone who can evaluate a cause over human lives for instance. I would suggest that almost every single person that is indoctrinated is in a vulnerable position therefore suffering mentally somehow.
I am always willing to discuss an alternative but you have a very condescending approach.
Sorry I am an asshole this is probably why I'm on a lengthy dry spell which probably doesn't help my being an asshole.

Could you say all of IS are not sound of mind, were all the Nazis and Soviets not sound of mind? The Milgram thing was meant to show people can do terrible things for awful causes even if they're "sane" (which I'll use loosely since they are after all doing awful things) and that (the next bit is imo) they are surrendering their moral agency to the authority figure.
I do mean to be an asshole sometimes but my post genuinely wasn't meant to be, I'm trying to learn how to convince people about stuff and making them feel bad probably isn't a good tactic.

would you be prepared to say that US soldiers are all mentally ill? If all it takes to kill someone for your cause is to be mentally unwell, then..
