I've got one of those exact GPU's in my laptop, I'm keeping an eye on my GPU temperatures all the time, I don't let it get over 60 degrees, I just whack the fan into disengaged mode if anything looks iffy.
You probably have a later revision, then.
yeah die amd, that's for buying ati assholes
I doubt a new company would enter the CPU market Designing the chips without any previous designs is pretty much gonna be completely impossible, specially with all the years of R&D involved Plus Intel could just refuse to "license" x86 to them Maybe its time to move over to ARM
yeah die amd, that's for buying ati assholes
ATi have been part of AMD for a loooong time. Put short, ATi wouldn't be afloat if AMD hadn't bought them
yeah die amd, that's for buying ati assholes
This better be a damn joke.
yeah die amd, that's for buying ati assholes
lmao
There's no way in hell that Valve, a video game company with about 290 employees that only develops one to three games at a time, and practically doesn't advertise, spends nearly a billion dollars a year on development and advertising.
They do pay their employees well though, and then count in server costs, licensing fees, etc Still not one billion, but still
I hope they don't go under, I don't want Intel to control the desktop microprocessor market.
the anitrust laws in the US and more importantly, the EU, wouldn't allow it
Doesn't Bill Gates still have billions of dollars?
Intel isn't completely in the clean.
I'm not saying they are clean by a long shot, but that is just shady business. As long as they do not drive up the prices and abuse their position if/when AMD goes bankrupt, how can they be broken up?
Maybe its time to move over to ARM
If you consider the new Chromebooks, it's already happening.
If you consider the new Chromebooks, it's already happening.
Quite slowly but optimistically surely.
Doesn't Bill Gates still have billions of dollars?
Well ask him kindly if he needs a new hobby.
What does any of that have to do with my post? I was pointing out that you have no idea how much video game development & advertising costs, GTA IV cost 100 million dollars to make, and that was over 4 years, involving over 1000 people, there's no way a company as small as Valve blows away a billion dollars a year, not even on server upkeep.
And we are pointing out that valve taking over any other company is a complete fantasy. [editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
If you consider the new Chromebooks, it's already happening.
ChromeOS, pffahahah
Come back when you have any fucking clue what you're talking about The speed of their desktop processors for video gaming is not an accurate measurement of how much they have contributed, at all
Its not like they pioneered AMD64 or paved the way for consumer multicore processors or anything.
What does any of that have to do with my post? Valve doesn't specify in processors. Let them focus on what they actually have experience in
I'm also worried about the graphics side of this. AMD owns ATI now. We don't need two monopolies. Competition has driven both the CPU and GPU industries so far. Even though I prefer both Intel and nVidia over AMD, I would hate to see them go under.
And we are pointing out that valve taking over any other company is a complete fantasy. [editline]14th November 2012[/editline] ChromeOS, pffahahah
In all, chromebooks are pretty locked down for no good reason. And ChromeOS? Why would you dedicate a laptop to a single application?
Wasn't the PS4 rumoured to have AMD hardware?
I'm also worried about the graphics side of this. AMD owns ATI now. We don't need two monopolies. Competition has driven both the CPU and GPU industries so far. Even though I prefer both Intel and nVidia over AMD, I would hate to see them go under.
AMD has owned ATI for at least 6+ years now. You might be thinking of the name change [editline]13th November 2012[/editline]
Wasn't the PS4 rumoured to have AMD hardware?
And the Xbox if I remember correctly. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline] And so does the WiiU.
As I said, I was pointing that game developers don't spend as much cash as you think, I don't give a fuck about Valve or anyone else buying AMD. I really should have phrased my question earlier in this thread differently, I shouldn't have even brought up Valve.
Yeah, you really shouldn't have. Valve isn't the all-ends company that can do anything. They're good at developing video games. We haven't even seen them in any other fields (par small hardware betas)
I also still fail to see what business a video game developing team would have in buying a huge name and business like AMD.
Can't the government bail out AMD like they did with general motors? :v:
Wasn't the PS4 rumoured to have AMD hardware?
Both consoles apparently, both using APU configuration. They made their bets well, and are now profiting.
Both consoles apparently, both using APU configuration. They made their bets well, and are now profiting.
Lets hope it doesn't come to AMD being sold before they can end up in something that would be as global as that :v:
If you consider the new Chromebooks, it's already happening.
Eeehh. I'm more inclined to credit the cheap ARM based android sticks, since the one's that actually sells of those are them that can also run Linux with a acceptable performance rate. And they're around the 50 to 75 US$ mark.
Its not like they pioneered AMD64 or paved the way for consumer multicore processors or anything.
every Windows 64 bit machine has that, even Intel machines. My Ivy Bridge PC has that folder
every Windows 64 bit machine has that, even Intel machines. My Ivy Bridge PC has that folder
Maybe because AMD license it to Intel...
Intel and Nvidia monopoly.. oh dear. While I do like Intel processors more I still love my AMD 5870 and Nvidia gpus are already expensive. Hopefully no monopoly will take place. [editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
Is there anyway Valve could just buy the GPU division of AMD? (In other words, ATI) The rest of the company is completely useless.
They could, but why on earth would they take their focus off making amazing software? It would be the demise of Valve.
