Locker rooms should remain separated and it shouldn't be directly illegal to step into the wrong one, it should be a matter of mutual understanding. If everyone in a gym is okay with you using the other locker room because you feel that's more appropriate to you then go ahead, if it bothers more people than it's worth don't be a nuisance and just deal with having to spend five minutes in a locker room with the people carrying the same genitals as you. Unisex bathrooms/locker rooms/etc are not a good idea because unless you're willing to build a third one in each establishment (most won't have space to begin with) then it's going to mostly be an inconvenience because there's a lot of people who are really uncomfortable around members of the opposite sex when it comes to nudity or relieving yourself.
Individual stalls like you see in public swimming pools would solve the problem anyway.
What a lunk
He's gay so he will. no actually he is. and trying to be a woman
such sage wisdom on transgender relations. the fascist mods were obviously jumping the gun when they banned such a modern-day luminary for calling black people monkeys twice in a row
such sage wisdom on transgender relations. the fascist mods were obviously jumping the gun when they banned such a modern-day luminary for calling black people monkeys twice in a row
What's the point of bringing external drama into the thread? Just rate dumb/report and move on.
He's gay so he will. no actually he is. and trying to be a woman
That was so beautiful, please write more haikus
On the one hand, I understand that as a transgender woman who (right now) doesn't want to have GRS, I might make cisgender women uncomfortable. However, on the other hand, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable going into the 'men's' changing rooms, which are clearly labelled as being for men, being surrounded by men- especially after hormones, where I'll have breasts and a feminine figure, just also with a penis. Right now, the 'solution' is for trans people just not to get changed in public places. But honestly, I think it's an issue which people need to be aware of, and hopefully one day in the future things will change. Also, as a note: in the UK, they do eventually give trans people a certificate affirming their sex. However, you have to have been medically diagnosed and living as your gender for 2 years. So I guess for me, I'm just waiting a while before I can get changed anywhere.
Individual stalls like you see in public swimming pools would solve the problem anyway.
Not gonna happen, again, the real world.
Not gonna happen, again, the real world.
Why exactly?

[editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
Why exactly?
Are you asking why it's not realistic to require every locker room to have seperate stalls for everyone?
Are you asking why it's not realistic to require every locker room to have seperate stalls for everyone?
At least an individual stall per room isn't a million dollar investment. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] You still haven't addressed the problems in your reasoning of last page, by the way.
As someone who is transgender I honestly think you shouldn't be using your preferred changing room in tell you're presenting as your preferred gender. You don't have to pass as your preferred gender but at least put in some effort, you shouldn't walk in presenting like a dude and be surprised when people are uncomfortable.
Most don't and in most gyms/at festival showers or everywhere else where many people use the same showers nobody gives a shit as long as you don't slap people with your meatwhip. You're basically saying that people should change their habits because you don't like to see dicks and as strawman as it sounds it just screams "insecure" to me and everyone going to a gym.
I'm sorry I didn't knew you were an expert on the percentage of people that don't care about seeing dicks on the locker room. You should be aware that you're saying people should change habits because you don't give a fuck how they feel.
Relax getting the membership revoked was actually probably a good thing, planet fitness is complete shit and shouldn't really be classified as a "gym" either I mean they serve pizza there and there is an alarm that goes off if you show any signs of actually working out.
why are you guys even arguing about dicks any self respecting trans women isn't whipping it out while shes in the changing room. trans people are uncomfortable with their sexual organs they aren't parading them around for everyone to see

Some more context, she only used the changing room to store her purse and coat she never got undressed. From the source:
Sklodowska said she was only at the gym on two occasions when using a friend's guest pass. She said she only used the locker room to hang her purse and coat while working out
Secondly this is the trans woman in question: i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/03/08/2673D46D00000578-0-image-a-7_1425851897265.jpg
In light of that I think taking away her membership was called for.
That's not my opinion, that's what it's like in locker rooms.
Once again I'm sorry I didn't knew you were an expert on locker rooms.
That's not my opinion, that's what it's like in locker rooms.
That's not how it works here mate.
Revoking the membership seems a bit harsh. Obviously the woman wasn't comfortable with it.
It's called making an example.
after looking at the picture Planet Fitness did the right thing, the trans women is obviously presenting as female and deserves to feel safe and comfortable using her preferred changing room
But the article says that she was dressed as a man, not as a woman as in the picture.
But the article says that she was dressed as a man, not as a woman as in the picture.
I find it more believable that the woman they kicked out was just being transphobic. I mean, the trans woman doesn't exactly pass as a believable female in that photo, but shes trying and as long as shes trying i think she deserves to use whatever changing room she identifies with.
But the article says that she was dressed as a man, not as a woman as in the picture.

Sklodowska said she wore leggings and a baggy T-shirt on both gym trips. She added that she understood why Cormier would see her body structure as masculine, because many people tell her she looks like a man.
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2985579/Transgender-woman-believes-s-center-Planet-Fitness-policy-controversy-says-used-women-s-locker-room-twice-hang-coat-purse.html Ah yes, leggings, the manliest of clothes. Somehow the daily mail is a better souce than the op's source.
Most transgender women get on HRT and develop breasts before they're able to pass fully as a cis woman. Walking into a men's locker/bath room with tits is likely to get you beat up and make everyone involved just as uncomfortable as if they were in the women's. Unless the person hides their chest and wears mens clothes, but are you so willing to force people to not express themselves and be uncomfortable just so they can be safe? If we care about transgender lives then people still in the "manly" stage need to be able to use restrooms based on gender. To say "based on sex" is a misnomer too because trans women, especially on HRT, are not fully male. Sex is determined, biologically, by 5 factors, chromosomes are only one of those. Trans women in transition match fewer and fewer of those factors as they go.
I know everyone's all accepting and all that shit nowadays but if a biological man (no matter what his excuse) strolls into the womens locker room he should be punished. If that's the case then what would stop any lesbian walking into the mens showers with a strap on and unshaved legs :S

it's not uncommon to see men wearing compression tights at the gym
-snip- nvm

Or are you just saying that once you're born and assigned as male, you must be a 'he' forever, even if you might have a vagina and be biologically identical to a woman who's had a hysterectomy?
