Theresa May has signed the letter that will formally begin the UK's departure from the European Union.
Giving official notice under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, it will be delivered to European Council president Donald Tusk on Wednesday.
In a statement in the Commons, the prime minister will then tell MPs this marks "the moment for the country to come together".
It follows June's referendum which resulted in a vote to leave the EU.
Mrs May's letter will be delivered to Mr Tusk at 12:30 BST on Wednesday by the British ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow.

Welp, it's been nice knowing you guys
It was nice having you lads in the EU, sure you were the reason we got in after all, but jasus it's gone all tits up now hasn't it?
All I can hope for is that the effects on the Irish economic will be mild and that a free border will be between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will be kept. We shouldn't need to also suffer immensely because of Englan- er, Britain's folly.
And I didn't even get to use my EU citizenship while I had the chance, what a shame.

Whole country to come together sure, except NI and Scotland. :v:

She is really making a tits of the whole "keeping the UK" thing together. I honestly wonder how the average Northern Irish and Scottish person will view those comments - at-least if they voted Remain.
Bye bye, take care now.
hope ya'll ready to see the NHS shrink and see social services axed "to fund Brexit"
infact, prepare to see a lot of unpopular shit slide through the Commons "for Brexit" because it looks like the Tories are going to face no opposition for the next 3 years.

And they never will, because people will always vote for "Cut my finger off" party.
Oh fuck oh fuck we're gonna be poor.
Like, really, what the fuck happened?
So, can britain ever rejoin EU? Any procedures described already?

They can, it will take 10 billion years tho.

Nigel Farage happened, he spent years doing bullshit propaganda for the sake of some petty revenge, he doesn't care about any of you or the country, hell he even said that if Brexit fails he'll move to another country, suddenly immigration isn't a problem if it helps him get away from the potential mess he's created

It isn't in affect until 2019, you're still good for a bit.
Fingers crossed the whole eu citizenship offer which floated a while ago will still be a thing. I hope it goes well, but I doubt we'll do better than we would have done in the EU.
I fear this will be very bad for social and economic unity of Europe.

We're an island. We could sink under the waves and the only effect on Europe would be the French having a bit of a party.
Dear Scotland and Ireland... leave while you still can, don't let the morons in my country ruin things for you.
Dear Scotland and Ireland, Take me with you.
Dear scotland and ireland: we got plenty of room on the flag for two more stars! hop on in!

Actually can the entire US just be annexed by Ireland please?
Please?

Indeed you are
Here's hoping that Wales abandons ship. We voted leave but many of us dread the thought of being trapped with England :suicide:
Otherwise, be seeing you fuckers in Patagonia. It's probably the closest thing we have to a second home.

If this is the history of this period I'm going to read in 10 years time I will lose my shit
We're looking at Brexit right now for three reasons :
1) Non-existent fundamental political education in this country, all you get before A-Level (providing you're in the 50%~ that chose History) is a basic explanation of extreme ideologies like Nazism and Stalinism. So what do we get? A piss poor understanding of the differences between authoritarian rule and democracy, between conservatism and liberalism, between extreme ideology and its root movements which has made people vulnerable to bullshit and deprived them of critical thinking. If you asked 90-95% of young people today who Edmund Burke or John Locke were, they'd have probably never heard of either name. On a daily basis I see people on social media who think the pro-Remain march that happened on Saturday was anti-democratic and treasonous with no hint of irony.
2) Cult-like press in the form of the Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Telegraph, The Spectator, which have brainwashed millions of people into believing a number of utterly ridiculous myths and basically act as Kingmaker for any aspiring opposition party, publishing hit pieces and twisted articles to push an agenda their readers are almost always unable to question. This is the press that can get away with calling the Judiciary the enemies of the fucking people and then write hit pieces about how one of the judges was "openly gay", but rely on their readers to brush it off as just "those PC lefties firing off again"
3) Self-serving Tory party bastards like Boris Johnson, Andrea Leadsom and Michael Gove, all of whom knew full well that Brexit would be a disaster, but each took it as an oppurtunity to try seize Tory party leadership. Of course they also knew full well that the cult-like press I just described would never hold them to account, enabling them to do it in the first place. They came up with the 350m farce amongst other things, and ran a far more effective campaign than both Remainers and Farage's Leave.EU, both of which were an embarassment
See you Brlater?

Welcome to the "our country is dying" party. You RSVP'd first but we've been getting it set up.
Can England separate itself from England and the Brexiting happen to some sort of Substitute Doll?
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
