So Generals 2, a game I was looking forward to, turned into a free to play piece of shit that EA now cancelled? God dammit, Generals 2 seemed like it may be able to pull the C&C franchise off the deathbed EA put it on with C&C 4, now it seems like EA has taken C&C off life support, letting it die a miserable and undignified death.
trust me it was worth it that they took it off life support. the microtransactions were zynga styled combined with Riot games styled with a dash of wargaming.net Premium style.
The last gameplay footage I saw of this was commentated over like it was an esports match. I'm glad its dead.
EA probably realised that you can't make a RTS with f2p bullshit, since the game style is inherently competitive, combined with the fact CnC and RTS in general audience is old school and not stupid to fall into f2p bullshit.
That is really unexpected. The game seemed to be in good developement and I thought that it was already pretty much clear that it will be released sometime soon, it was already in alpha.
"Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play,"
Ouch. That must've been devastating for anyone on the dev side that had any faith in their game.
Same thing with AoE:Online.
even through age of empires and CnC are probably dead for good, its still good to see that RTSes in general won't have f2p.
Oh, so only the the studio that created the free to play C&C closed? I don't think Victory games was responsible for any other Command and Conquer games. I'm sure the main C&C studio is still kickin.

The developers created a new team though (Petroglyph Games), which is currently working on an RTS named End Of Nations:

ugh could they just please make a fucking actual command and conquer again like cnc 3 was (before the x-pack) instead they keep wanting to "experiment" with it.... 1) put a good script togather for the campaigns 2)look up what an RTS is 3) don't make it on frostbyte engine 4) don't do anything bathesda would do 5) look at what worked well in previous games and refine it 6) hire on actors to do the voice acting and such 7) go to beta and release on time [editline]29th October 2013[/editline] alternatively, just go with the formula for cnc generals and make a decent AI and campaign
We will have to accept that CnC is dead one day. You can always go back and mod it, and have fun with those mods. But it will never go forward again. Just like CoH.
I wonder how Xieneus feels about this.
They did the right thing.
Red Alert 2 was the only last acceptable title from the Command and Conquer series. How can you be so dumb, C&C is one of the most simple concepts ever and they managed to fuck it up by making stupid shit no one wants. Come on Devs cant be this dumb.

Come on Devs cant be this dumb.
lets not exaggerate here now, CnC 3 was good, even if not perfect, CnC RA3 was somewhat a letdown but still fun at least.
EA is running out of Studios to close. Pandemic, Bright Light, Blackbox, Danger Close, Phenomic, and now Victory, all since 2009. EA is basically just Bioware, Ghost/Criterion, DICE, Maxis, Popcap, Sports, and Visceral at this point.
RA3 was sort of a let down because the alliance and the soviets were neutered technology wise, and then there was the japanese who....well were rediculously OP the only redeaming things about the game were attack bears, and HD kirov airships. the graphic capabilities required though were stupid. when it came out there was only like one computer in my house that could use it and that was my brother's crappy liquid cooled beast that he's always breaking
The game felt like it was made by Blizzard as it felt more like on of their titles than Generals or other CnC titles. Dual resources, base expansions and upgrades were similar to Starcraft.
I'm glad they cancelled it. It looked shit and the p2win crap should never be welcome in rts games.
Now C&C can finally rest in peace. Hopefully EA forgets about it for a few years, sells the rights to the IP off and someone gets the gang back together to make a real sequel to Tiberian Sun. I mean... look at this... (skip to 4:15) GG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, at least there's still Renegade X to look forward to, and that standalone Tiberian Sun conversion for C&C renegade is p. good.
Same thing with AoE:Online.
This post and quote really make me realize the shitpile of sc2 is somehow the modern version of classic rts that sucks the least. Huh.
free-to-play Command & Conquer game
I'm glad this doesn't exist.
I'm glad they cancelled it. It looked shit and the p2win crap should never be welcome in rts games.
I agree that they should of cancelled the game to begin with hell they shouldn't of even started to make it. The thing that really bugs me though is why do they open a studio up to work on it then close it straight away when they could of had the studio to work on something else like different DLC for games, a brand new game or even assist other studios with other projects.
Anyone here know about the Alpha at all? Was it bad?
I heard people said the cash shop items and shit were ridiculous, so instead of fixing it they just scrapped it
Is this the one where they ripped off a load of shit from Warhammer for the vehicle models?
Nah, that was Tiberium Alliances, another FTP C&C that I'm surprised is still going.
no, they were fired when CnC4 ended. amusingly they were informed they would be mid development, i'm pretty sure that influenced how horrible CnC4 was in the end.
That would explain why they shat all over CnC's whole structure. I was hoping Generals 2 would bring back the old CnC gameplay style without stupid amounts of amphibious units and horribly cartoony graphics, but it looks like that'll never happen now.
