I've been playing Command and Conquer games since I was a little kid, seeing Command & Conquer officially die feels like a part of my childhood was ripped out. I hated RA3 and C&C4 (I pre-ordered C&C4 for fuck sakes because I was excited for a new C&C in the Tiberium universe), C&C 3/Generals was great. RA1 was easily the best Command & Conquer in my books, I'm sad now that a franchise that I loved is dead...
Not officially dead, but with the constant barrage of failures it might as well be.
Guys I really have to come out of the closet, this is an appropriate time I enjoyed C&C 4
Guys I really have to come out of the closet, this is an appropriate time I enjoyed C&C 4
What the fuck did you just say? You enjoyed C&C 4? You enjoyed the cutscenes of your idiotic wife saying "OH HONEY BE CAREFUL" and doing a bunch of shit for her only for Kane to knock her out of the sky with a SAM site in the end? Or vice versa with you dying instead. They completely threw out the whole idea that Tiberium is about to annihilate the entire human race and decided to say "o hey lets just get Kane on our side and get rid of Tiberium and then he can ascend or whatever to his home planet, no worries Scrin the deed is done!" The story sucked, the gameplay sucked, the graphics were okay, the music was repetitive but overall it was BLUAHRHGHSHAHA
I'm willing to turn my brain off and let the glorious stupid roll over me. But propaganda for the CCP is something I draw the line at.
so what you're saying is that you hate zh because it portrays the People's Republic of China (learn your shit, CCP is the company that developed EVE and the CCCP/SSSR is the Soviet Union (which broke off relations with the PRC by the end of the 60s)) in a positive light, completely ignoring that the actual game is really fun enjoy spending the rest of your life deriving no enjoyment from anything for incredibly petty reasons
Yeah I remember back in the 60's when China had double barreled, mini gun armed super tanks and mobile nuclear cannons.
I also remember some of the lovey little propaganda films coming out of China, featuring the world's largest existing totalitarian states being greeted with flowers by the "liberated" people of Tibet/Europe (yes, the CCP beat EA to the punch)/the Pacific. If I remember correctly, one of my friends pointed out the grateful peasants she and her family were forced to play. Right before the credits stopped rolling and they decided to cut some slices off of dad's back to make up for the schiesteny rations they had. I guess they were were lucky they didn't kill him. So I'm sickened when I see the same regime that made that a matter of strategy- and just the last game did things like blowing up Three Gorges Dam for a completely unnecessary reason- be treated as "benign liberators." Because it is a company carrying water for the bloodiest regime in human history. It isn't the double barreled super weapons that make something propaganda, its how it is dealt with. I don't think anybody's alleged that Wolfenstein is Nazi propaganda because they have the Reich using Ubertech Supernatural Powahz. But I also don't think anybody's alleged Triumph of Will isn't Nazi propaganda without those things.
so what you're saying is that you hate zh because it portrays the People's Republic of China (learn your shit, CCP is the company that developed EVE and the CCCP/SSSR is the Soviet Union (which broke off relations with the PRC by the end of the 60s)) in a positive light,
The CCP is a common English Language acronym for the Chinese Communist Party. One that is actually authorized and officiated by the Party itself. So you mean to tell me you haven't heard of one of the most common acronyms on the subject , and yet you're trying to lecture *me* as if I don't know anything? No, you learn Your shit. And yes, I take an issue with the regime estimated to have caused more human deaths than any other on the planet's historical record being portrayed in an unreasonably positive light. Especially by a studio that should know better and is under no pressure to do it.
completely ignoring that the actual game is really fun
Even if I did think the actual game was "really fun", yes I would still take issue with it. For the same reason I would not appreciate a game that glorifies the holocaust regardless of how "really fun" it is. As for how actually fun it was, YMMV. Zero Hour wasn't an abysmal game (in mechanical terms), but I found it average. And to be honest I found several of the tweaks from the previous game(s) and the mission designs to be inferior, separate from the merit of their story content.
enjoy spending the rest of your life deriving no enjoyment from anything for incredibly pretty reasons
Enjoy being an internet sociopath who is willing to overlook the glorification of things like this. I like playing the villain on games as much as anybody else, but I'm not inclined to stand idly by when a very real and very bloody regime gets positive PR. And if that is what passes for a petty reason around here... well, that's your loss. Not mine.

I feel slightly bad that I won't ever get to play it for myself, but my relief that it has been cancelled before it can officially be a disaster outweighs that. The minute they decided it wasn't going to be "Generals 2" just "Command & Conquer", and that it was going to be free-to-play, I knew it probably wasn't going to get very far. After seeing gameplay with some very awkward commentary.. You could just tell that even as a hypothetical successor to the Generals series, it wasn't going to work. The two really didn't even seem to have anything in common. Vehicles looked like they turned on dimes, and there was no weight to units, it just looked like it was trying to be something else when they took the approach of advertising the game like a sport. The only concept they seemed to take from Generals was the amount of playable generals, but I'm willing to bet they probably weren't that different from each other. If you ask me, the only worthy 'successors' to the Generals series are probably the mods for the game. Like Shockwave, or Rise of the Reds, and probably others.
Wait, people cared about the story? I didn't beat RA2 (still haven't the Soviet campaign, stuck on the last mission) or YR until about 8 years after they came out, and I've hardly touched the campaigns in Generals or Zero Hour. I've poured hundreds, possibly thousands of hours into the AI Skirmish, that's why I get RTS games. I have SC2, never touched the campaign, bought it just for skirmish. Same with AoE3. I play Generals and RA2 for skirmish, and they started taking away the classic CnC feel of the skirmish later on in the series. RA3 had so many amphibious units it was ridiculous, and then CnC4, from what I heard, destroyed what CnC was all about by instating unit caps and removing base building. I loved playing CnC not for the stories, which were interesting, but for the gameplay.

Maybe that makes me insane, but I think it's the reason why the first Red Alert is still my favorite CnC. Even if I also spent 9/10ths of my time in skirmish or with mods more or less across the series.
At least Kane was good in the cutscenes though.
Kane is good no matter what though [editline]30th October 2013[/editline]
Enjoy being an internet sociopath who is willing to overlook the glorification of things like this. I guess since Company of Heroes lets you play as the German's the makers of that must also be evil Nazi lovers.
I don't understand why they didn't just make C&C Generals 2, that's what most people wanted. Instead they turned it into some stupid shitty free to play thing that nobody cared about.
At least Kane was good in the cutscenes though.
Joe Kucan is a pretty damn good stage actor. Directed every single cutscene in the C&C series sans Generals. Sad that his final C&C appearance had to be in such an awful game.
Good. Stop fucking with this franchise and let it die in peace, you soulless amateurs.
Couldn't have said it better.
I'm willing to turn my brain off and let the glorious stupid roll over me. But propaganda for the CCP is something I draw the line at.
Are you serious? Sure the Chinese are the are the winners of both games in the overall storyline on a geopolitical level while the US is basically struck with multiple equivalents of the 911 attacks but its not supposed to be realistic or advocate for anything. Its poking fun at how the US is declining as the #1 world power driving itself into the ground fighting in the MiddleEast while China is exploiting the situation in its own self interest. It really just goes over the top and thats what I love about C&C stories. American ideals are failing and Chinese brutality is working. The brutality works in the game but would that really make you support a Communist party? [editline]30th October 2013[/editline] Still not the best franchise.
Whatever The free to play would probably be executed awfully
I've already commented on my glee for this game failing with reasons but I thought I would add one more point. It was not going to be moddable because "its too complex". EA really are twats
Fucking GOOD this game sucked so much dick I was actually mindblown that they were even bothering to make it every single aspect of the game was uninspiring.

what is C&C anyways and why is it so big? I was never into strategy so I'd have no idea. But from total lack of knowledge and only second hand statements it seems like a big thing, this game. I know basically nothing of the series.
It had some amazing settings, good music and nice gameplay. It was pretty atmospheric, especially the Tiberium series. The music is so great.
I had no idea about the damn game, until I got an email for the alpha. [t]http://i.imgur.com/tLE7HYd.jpg[/t] new patch cancels development :v:

Does anyone else think the conscripts in RA1 sounded more Scottish than Russian?
Does anyone else think the conscripts in RA1 sounded more Scottish than Russian?
it was the "acknowledged" Did anybody else find the ai too hard to fight against in skermish so put the money right down and the ai wouldn't be able to afford a refinery after building a barracks so you limited them then spend the rest of the day building huge sand bag forts round your newly founded prisons?
Well we still have OpenRA, CnCnet, and The guys making renegade styled CnC Games
There's also Mental Omega, arguably the best looking and most professionally-done mod for Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge that looks to balance the game and has a planned 36 missions for each faction. They've even gone and voiced all their new units, there's a lot of work that seems to have been put into it.
Heh time for nerdrage?
shows me how little I know :v:
