Yeah, next thing you know they're going to come out with full blown Steam smart phones. That would be kicking rad
With hats.
Valve should make a network video streaming device so you can stream your Steam games directly to your TV via your home network. Kinda like Onlive but with less latency and better quality because it's local.
You'd think that's what they're going for, but the controller bit doesn't make sense yet.
I wonder if this is the only thing they'll reveal at GDC...
Oh so the endless supply of shitty items to buy in TF2 was just a way to use the community as guinea pigs to see what sells or not? [editline]28th February 2011[/editline] Also there is a media section in steam and has been one for many years, but I think it's only for trailers, right? They should expand that and at LEAST let you add whatever you want form your hd onto that list, but it would be cooler if they sold movies.
Oh so the endless supply of shitty items to buy in TF2 was just a way to use the community as guinea pigs to see what sells or not?.
Valve has said before that they use TF2 for experiments.
Holy fuck what if when you saw one of your friends was watching a movie that you owned, you could "join them" and it would start streaming your copy from the same place. That would be kickass.
Well my goddamn TV is RIGHT next to my computer, so I don't see the point on my part :S
"our players are continually teaching us what works and what doesn't. Much of this feedback can be generalized to other titles on steam, so we're looking forward to sharing what we've learned with partners at gdc. We're also interested in seeing partners get up and running with their own in-game economies, so they can collect game-specific data to inform their design decisions."
FUCK NO! Stop it Valve. STOP IT.
I wish they could make some kind of watered down steam/community chat app that I can install to my flashdrive and use to talk to my friends at school
Yeah, next thing you know they're going to come out with full blown Steam smart phones. That would be kicking rad
Heck, valve should make their own game console!
FUCK NO! Stop it Valve. STOP IT.
Activision's economy is going to be ran on greed, and it'll will be items that require you to play the game. "Oh, you bought Call of Duty for 60$? Well, that's just the disc alone. You can buy the Single Player and Multiplayer now for a great deal of 100$.
Sounds nice I hope they unveil some Dota2 at gdc... and don't kill me for saying it... But I hope for some thing looking close to episode 3
Big picture mode will enable gamers to enjoy Steam and their library of Steam games
I pictured some guys pointing and grinning at the Steam library on a bigscreen TV like sports fans do when their team takes the lead
I can just see it. Steam is on all systems, from TVs to handhelds to phones. Then suddenly everything goes out at once - nothing seems to work. Then the simple phrase, "Episode 3," appears on every single thing.
Steam Operating System. Do it now Valve.
The only thing I need right now from steam is for it to stop fucking installing Half-Life Source Deathmatch every time I start up my computer.
It would be cool to have a ps3 app that could stream the gameplay from my computer.
Valve has said before that they use TF2 for experiments.
It's a conspiracy...
Steam for Linux now? :(
Not likely to happen as Linux is a platform that varies depending on the distribution. It would be a real burden for them to test Steam (and its content) on all of those many configurations. They can't just say "compatible with Linux".
As long as Valve doesn't start selling out to consoles, I'm fine with this.
If Valve did sell out to consoles it probably wouldn't be that bad. The idea of steam on a console is an awesome sounding idea IMO.
Steam approach to DRM: Access your content wherever you're hooked up to the internet! Have fun guys! Please don't pirate our stuff cause we give you awesome features if you don't! Apple approach to DRM: ACCESS YOUR CONTENT ON 5 COMPUTERS NO MORE NO LESS YOU FILTHY PIRATE. WE KNOW YOU'RE A PIRATE WE JUST CAN'T PROVE IT YET SCUM.
Actually Steam's approach is: Run the client on the internet, get games, run the client when you want play games. No internet needed.
Are they going to bring Half-Life 2: Episode Three too? Or they'll just leave it in the office like usual?
Now all we need is cross-platform multiplayer connected by Steam.
Now all we need is cross-platform multiplayer connected by Steam.
I think they've said PS3 Mac and PC can all play portal 2 co-op together.
Does this mean afterwards I can dress my Phone with a Hat
fairly certain TV support just means they'll have a TV friendly interface for those using home theater setups. you know, like media center software like XBMC. but Steam. what makes me say so? after TV they mention "computer displays", and monitors seldom have any means of connecting to the internet on their own, if ever. of course, i could be wrong, just saying i think a lot of you are seeing a duck when it's actually a hamster.
A Steam console would be the best thing ever.
The games you buy are multiplatform, meaning you can play with your friends regardless of their console preferences. I'm also quite sure Valves are not bunches of greedy and selfish pricks like Sony and Microsoft, as they actually design things based off of the opinions of the community. I would actually want a "universal" game console like so.
pretty hellacious since I already have a computer hooked up to a 58" tv
I want to be able to use my pc remotely though my ps3 that would be awesome
