Austria's Conchita Wurst: "This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom"
The singer, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, won with the song Rise Like a Phoenix, collecting 290 points.
Netherlands was 2nd and Sweden 3rd.

fyi conchita means pussy in spanish and wurst means sausage in german. :eng101:
Russia gettin boo'd whenever they won any of the top 3 votes from a country was outright hilarious, and even more so when there was a constant 'boo' going on when they were giving the votes.
I thought it was funny Ukraine gave Russia points.
Knew from the moment I saw her a month ago that she'd win Eurovision simply because drag queen.
But had a really good song and could pass off as a James Bond song like Skyfall.
So all good I suppose.
UK got more points than they have in the past two decades, that's an achievement.

He's a guy and called Thomas Neuwirth, the drag thing is only for stage performance JSYK
I drank loads
My housemates drank loads
We cheered enough that our deaf neighbour heared us through the walls
It was a good night, UKIP are wrong :v:
I didn't even watch eurovision and have no clue about the participants at large; just saw a short tweet about it pop up.
I don't have much of an interest in music festivals or events; but eurovision is really a nice effort to strenghten our recognition of one another and bring mutual admiration.
I personally prefer the football competitions like Champions/UEFA league.
Winter sports are quite nice too, but they're not popular everywhere, only in some countries.
This got 2 points

If I was French I would be losing my shit right now
I still can't get used to him. His name makes it even more ridiculous; Wurst = Sausage
I don't care about anything, but for the fact that France came dead last.
Hon hon hon, motherfuckers.
Btw, this is causing an outright shitstorm in Eastern Europe :v:
Besides being a godsend to Russia's propaganda, this also made the usual russian agree with all the shit Russian officials keep saying about the EU
Russia got roasted this year, it's all I wanted :')

Actually...
2011 - 100 points for UK.
2009 - 173 points for UK.
1997 - we won
1998 - 2nd with 166 points.
Sorry to be pedantic but... we could've done a lot better and should have done, really. Our position put us at a massive disadvantage.
But seriously, I'm happy Austria did win. Genuinely good song.
It appears my girlfriend did not sign out of my account and thus has replied to me thinking she was on her account. This is why you don't drunk and facepunch.

To be honest the music video version of that isn't that bad, the live version at the competition itself was just utterly fucking dreadful.
Why are we still participating?
We can't win unless we bring a transexual / homosexual / [minorityoftheyear]
We keep making fools of ourselves, yearly
I mean, sure, we definitly don't want to take the risk of winning and organising the next eurovision... but still, last ?

You're saying the live version was worse than all the shitloads of boring ballads?

yeah the russians are singing the chords of ortodox christianity and all the eastern traditional and religious folk(wich would encompass 40-80% of the population) are listening.
But it's quite dumb...why do you have to care what others do on tv or in their privacy?
I envy the german/nordic perspective on things like this; they just move on with their life and work towards bettering themselfes.Protestantism ftw
It's not that I'm religious, but it promotes quite a healthy and equilibrated lifestyle.

Its because you keep singing in French, nobody else can understand what you're singing.
Its because you keep singing in French, nobody else can understand what you're singing.
I hear people complaining that everyone sings in English with dreadful accents, and when some countries actually sing in their own language (this Eurovision actually had a lot of em, which doesn't happen often) I read this now.
Make up your minds people

Believe me, considering what we pulled this year, that's a good thing.
Its because you keep singing in French, nobody else can understand what you're singing.
Where every other country made the effort to speak english, france did their points en francais, after about 20 seconds of french rambling from the host, the Irish voiceover guy on tv said "whoah she speaks great french"

I don't mind the dodgy accents, adds to the charm.
I still remember this one from '09:

Still my fave after all these years.
Well I knew that the bearded woman would win but Russia getting 7th? I thought we'd get the last possible place.

No. The usa and quite a handfull of east european/african/middle eastern/indochina countries got their independence at large with the concert and efforts of France. And then think of the progress french brought to the world, or the culture.200 years ago french language was today's english.Even now 400mil people speak it. Everyone knows at least something about France, and that says it all.
Vive la France!

How? The votes were from russian minorities.
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Estonia etc.
The booing was real, and everyone that ain't russian dislikes the country.

Ukraine giving votes to Russia is because, for technical reasons apparently, votes from Crimea still counted as coming from Ukraine.
