I am going to hold off on believing until the BBC or CBC gets ahold of this story. So far, there is nothing on those websites, making me belive that this is a farce.

If the Chinese government was behind it, then this would probably become a new diplomatic crisis or something even bigger. But now it's just some idiot believing that he's in the position to threaten the world and ruin the picture of China.
We'll pay. China knows all they have to do is threaten to cut off the money.
I'm confused, is this for real or is it a sensationalist headline?
lets kill all life on earth for money! what a great idea
I'm confused, is this for real or is it a sensationalist headline?
Headlines are quite sensational. Statement I'm not sure. Especially if you look where the quotation marks start and stop. "Xie Fei, revenue management director at the China Clean Development Mechanism Fund, threatened: "If there's no trading of [HFC-23] credits, they'll stop incinerating the gases" and vent them directly into the atmosphere." He didn't threaten to vent them directly into the atmosphere. Journalist assumed that it would be the case so he/she added it in there.
We'll pay. China knows all they have to do is threaten to cut off the money.
You can't pay if you have no money in the first place. And if you do somehow manage to pay, US will turn into a third world country.
We'll pay. China knows all they have to do is threaten to cut off the money.
You've got it backwards, as I already stated. The reality is, we have China by the balls and they know it. If they were to lose our business, they'd crash and burn spectacularly. We'd hurt for a bit, but we'd come out better off in the end. Besides, as I said, Vietnam and Taiwan would love to have all the extra business that China would be losing. China also isn't the major holder in our debt so even if they did stop lending to us, we have numerous other sources for it.
He didn't threaten to vent them directly into the atmosphere. Journalist assumed that it would be the case so he/she added it in there.
yes because if the gas isn't being incinerated the other option is to put it in mason jars and store them in the basement
yes because if the gas isn't being incinerated the other option is to put it in mason jars and store them in the basement
I don't know but perhaps they could stop making it?? [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] You are now making assumptions not based on any piece of fact. That's not how you write news.
I don't know but perhaps they could stop making it??
Would likely require factories to be completely overhauled
Would likely require factories to be completely overhauled
Which in turn would cost them more then venting it out in the atmosphere.
[del]Swebonny[/del] it's spelled "incinerate" not "incinirate" if you're going to flip a shit and change my thread title at least spell correctly you also left out the fact they're doing it for blackmailing purposes, what the fuck are you doing edit: apologies to swebonny
Would likely require factories to be completely overhauled
Well then they'll probably have to do that. Be logical. China is one of the nation that invests the most in clean tech and in other environmental projects. Now suddenly they want to pump toxic into the air? 0 sense. [editline]9th November 2011[/editline]
Swebonny it's spelled "incinerate" not "incinirate" if you're going to flip a shit and change my thread title at least spell correctly you also left out the fact they're doing it for blackmailing purposes, what the fuck are you doing
Zeke129, I refer to my post:
You are now making assumptions not based on any piece of fact.
I didn't make the change. Pwnd. Bad habit you're having. Please change.
Its funny how market oriented China is for a "communist" country
Looked up the gas, and that stuff is a fuckin potent Green house gas. 11,700 times more potent (by mass) than CO2.
Well then they'll probably have to do that. Be logical. China is one of the nation that invests the most in clean tech and in other environmental projects. Now suddenly they want to pump toxic into the air? 0 sense.
Correct me if Im wrong but aren't they the most polluting country in the world at the moment?
I wonder if anyone's going to spin this into being considered global bioterrorism or something. inb4ww3 i guess
leave it to america, our middle names are Military Overkill. just ask japan. :eng101:
Now it reads 'incerinating' at the title :v: On topic I doubt China will be stupid enough to do this, they seriously can't be doing that. It's just one guy trolling and taunting that 'we will release the gases if you don't gibe us dosh'.
Well then they'll probably have to do that. Be logical. China is one of the nation that invests the most in clean tech and in other environmental projects. Now suddenly they want to pump toxic into the air? 0 sense.
Yeah, China is so clean. That's why 10% of their farmland is polluted with heavy metals, 500 million people don't have access to clean drinking water, and only 1% of the population in cities has access to air deemed safe. My apologies for assuming you were the one who fucked with the thread title though.
Wow people are over reacting.
"If there's no trading of [HFC-23] credits, they'll stop incinerating the gases" and vent them directly into the atmosphere.
He merely said that if the gas isn't destroyed they will be forced to release it.
Wow people are over reacting. He merely said that if the gas isn't destroyed they will be forced to release it.
no he said they're going to purposely vent it instead of destroying it unless they can continue to profit from doing so, something that will cost other nations billions of dollars
Correct me if Im wrong but aren't they the most polluting country in the world at the moment?
They are I think, which also probably is why they are investing so much in clean tech.
no he said they're going to purposely vent it instead of destroying it unless they can continue to profit from doing so, something that will cost other nations billions of dollars
Would you kindly point out where anyone important actually said this?
Yeah, China is so clean. That's why 10% of their farmland is polluted with heavy metals, 500 million people don't have access to clean drinking water, and only 1% of the population in cities has access to air deemed safe. My apologies for assuming you were the one who fucked with the thread title though.
Apologies accepted <33 I can't deny China's environment is quite fucked up. But that's also one of the reason they are spending that much on clean/renewable tech. Actually double the US budget in 2009. Which is also why I find Xin Jia (whatever his name was) statement really incredibly dumb. http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/29/china-leads-in-renewable-investments/ Of course needs a lot lot more work before it can reach a, let's say Swedish standard. Perhaps 50-100 years?
They are I think, which also probably is why they are investing so much in clean tech.
yeah them venting gasses into the atmosphere would be like a pharmaceutical company stops making medicine and manufacture nothing but cyanide
Would you kindly point out where anyone important actually said this?
yeah no problem here ya go pal [editline]9th November 2011[/editline]
Apologies accepted <33 I can't deny China's environment is quite fucked up.
They are I think, which also probably is why they are investing so much in clean tech.
As far as I can tell China is more interested in immediate profit than the environment. IE: If dirty is cheaper, they'll go with it. Do you have some proof that they are investing in clean tech? Edit: Ninja'd by you last post
yeah no problem here ya go pal
Maybe I stuttered, I said important. As in capable of actually carrying out this bullshit.
China pollutes themselves to death. Companies have to move their businesses back here. Economy back on track. or atleast maybe
