it was fun when I played it. Sad to see it go
Except that the legitimate version still kind of sucks? And that the whole reason people liked this type of thing was because it added things that they felt MW2 lacked? (dedicated servers, custom maps, mods, etc.)
not with the fastest aimbot in the world it doesn't. the precious tears!

(dedicated servers, custom maps, mods, etc.)
I don't understand why people keep insisting to play and mod MW2 since it's an exact copy of COD4, except that the latter have proper servers and is open to mods.
Do you get VAC banned for using this? I will consider it if not, cause it looks pretty neat.
Holy shit so many players, why didn't I jump on this when I had the chance FUCK
Someone making our game better/what it should have been?! SUE THEM
I don't understand why people keep insisting to play and mod MW2 since it's an exact copy of COD4, except that the latter have proper servers and is open to mods.
because MW2 is more shiny (graphics wise) and the CoD4 mod scene is dominated by promod.
guys you did basically get to play a game for free with this. no-one could possibly expect it to be treated as a serious mod, especially when multiplayer is a huge selling point for COD.
I always just said "fuck you" to activision and hosted mods on MW2, was able to do it for several months, but then VAC got me... I had zombie mods, tf2 mods, mod menus which did a fuckton of stuff. It was a hellalotsofun. I even remember I could give another player aimbot to where everyone will scream at him as a hacker.
guys you did basically get to play a game for free with this. no-one could possibly expect it to be treated as a serious mod, especially when multiplayer is a huge selling point for COD.
Yeah there is that side but there is also the fact that it made the game far better and far more moddable for legitimate owners as well.
because MW2 is more shiny (graphics wise) and the CoD4 mod scene is dominated by promod.
MW2 is more shiny than CoD4 because the setting which sets the strenght for the specular mapping is set higher. You can set that console command in CoD4 and have it look (technically wise) just like MW2.
Use teknogod's mw3 multiplayer servers instead, it's more advanced, safer, and more stable. Most of the (very good) programmers I know who develop and find aimbots/multihacks/exploits for the real game have confirmed that they would rather their clients use teknogods (as opposed to aIW) due to this reason. aIW is practically malware and basically used their clients as a botnet to ddos their competition, this has been well documented and you can find it almost anywhere.
Would do if I had MW3.
RIP good Call of Duty

Overall it's much expanded gameplay content/code-wise, and that's why the mod community prefers it. They can be more lazy.
Rage
I always just thought alterIWnet was a place for pirates to be able to play online. If I knew it allowed so much more I would have been all over that shit. Fuck.
It enabled pirates to play online and that's why it was taken down.
It enabled pirates to play online and that's why it was taken down.
Yeah but if Activision wanted to avoid this they should of integrated a similar aiw net function with mods and shit for legiti customers. I know I bought it on steam but I use AIW because everything in general is better. [editline]12th March 2012[/editline]
yeah but doesn't mw3net still exist
I'm very sure the whole "alter" family of mods are all going to be taking the bullet, I believe altermw3 brought this upon themselves considering IW listened to the PC community for once and gave 2 options, servers or matchmaking.
This is activision though Fun isn't allowed
well i've already stop playing sucky games made and corrupted by activations.
well i've already stop playing sucky games made and corrupted by activations.
I actually enjoyed mw3 though, Yes I dare to enjoy it. Deal with it.I've been fortunate enough to not be bugged too much by matchmaking
I actually enjoyed mw3 though, Yes I dare to enjoy it. Deal with it.I've been fortunate enough to not be bugged too much by matchmaking
This, I'd enjoy it more if they added infected to the fucking playlist though
Way to go, Activision. Take a look at Valve and Steam. Steam probably wouldn't exist if not for the huge modding potential and freedom that Valve and Half Life gave. The Mods alone were worth purchasing a copy of Half Life. Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, TFC, Firearms to name a few. All those mods gave life to Half Life for far longer than most First Person Shooter games could dream of, and because of that, brought in revenue over a long ass period of time I guess Activision doesn't want their CoD games to last a long time, so that everyone will buy the next one 10 months later Modding Potential breathes life and longevity into games. It brings in more money for you, it makes the customer happy, Why do this. Look at Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout, Skyrim, Battlefield series (notice how Bad Company fell off the map quite quickly?) Half Life and HL2, Quake, Unreal motherfuckin Tournament, Goddamn Minecraft for crying out loud... Mod support is a Must
Cease and desist for what? Making a mod which expands the life of the game for both the players and the game on the market? Activision\EA need to die. Terrible companies.
Cease and desist for what? Making a mod which expands the life of the game for both the players and the game on the market? Activision\EA need to die. Terrible companies.
have you even read the thread?
If they weren't so open to piracy (linking to torrents in their installation guide) they might have been able to argue this. It was heaps of fun, it had custom game modes, custom maps and weapons, matchmaking and a server list.
Bumping this with new content from Blitz
Yes, I know I said the last announcement was my actual last one. I lied. As most of you are already aware, this is the end of what you know as alteriwnet. Game servers will eventually be shut down and this forum with it. This is inevitable. I've announced this in several places but messages are easily buried in the flurry of traffic running through the closing threads, that while this is the end of an era for alterIWNet and all of the fun times most of us have no doubt had, the community many of us have contributed to and helped build strong will be maintained on a new host. A poll conducted in another thread indicated strong interest in such a move. Most likely the void of losing the network component will be filled with other projects and mod development for popular games, which will comply with all laws and treaties as to avoid another situation like this in the future. Ultimately, where we go from here depends on you. You should be aware that we absolutely cannot re-instate what was available here at aIW - nonetheless, it is our intention to bring new content and value to PC gaming in the form of modifications and community organization. It would be our pleasure to see those die-hard community members join us in this new venture. You can click here to be transferred to the new site - please note that the log-in button at the top does not function and you should use the one at the bottom until the problem is resolved. Best regards, Blitz End
So it seems like the team isn't going to entirely fuck off from the Internet but now make better mods for games that follow rules and regulations which is nice. Still shitty that I have to re install mw2 now, oh well. [editline]16th March 2012[/editline] 0.9K servers 3.9K players now 90K players yesterday 1552K total players The statistics are actually better than mw2 on steam :v: tells you something

Goodnight, sweet prince. Still reminds me of how publishers don't understand that if you don't want your clients to turn into pirates then you should not fuck them in the ass when they paid.
I always wonder why fan content that got a C&D letter never has its source code "leaked" online.
