the people in the video screaming really pissed me off. It was a pity seeing the dog suffering, but it's all about priorities.

Also, the dog is alive "Star is still alive and remains in the care of the Animal Care & Control facility on East 110th Street. Attempts to locate Star's owner have been unsuccessful so far. The Local East Village spoke to friends of the dog's owner, who police identify as Lech Stankiewicz, and they said that Star has a history of being overprotective of Stankiewicz."

Wow, what a fuckin pro. That first kick was brilliant.
Would do the same thing as the officer in the OP, a charging dog is nothing to play around with.
That lady screaming is right, why shoot the dog when they should just shoot her holy shit shut the fuck up oh my god.
Really quick action by the officer, honestly, they did their job to 100% here. Seems a little weird they left the guy lying on the ground for so long without checking on him, but the dog was a legitimate threat at that point.
Don't worry guys, Not even a bullet can take this Dogg down.

The dog just before going towards the officer bit some lady in the leg, making that growling noise. You can even see it, then starts running up to the cop. Cop acted in the right to be honest, he didn't even have his gun drawn until the Dog bit at that lady's pants
I'd have shot it too. A pissed off dog can do some damage
Flashbacks of Resident Evil?
Funny how the idiots in the crowd started screaming at the officers when they shot the animal, even if they had just seen it charge at them. And then they started talking about 'protests' and such when the police ordered them away. This is why I can only sympathize with officers in most situations, even if others think they do use too much force.
I haven't got sound at the moment but from what I can see that lady at the start just made their jobs infinitely harder. If she just fucked off he wouldn't have had to approach the dog to get it off her, and perhaps it would have ended completely differently.

And they did tell her beforehand to stay away from the victim, though that was only two and a half seconds before it attacked.
Rah, wouldn't tasing it have been a better idea? Do these cops even carry tasers?
I swear you people are bots. You search for the two keywords "cop" and "shoot" and automatically post this.
I thought when dogs attack people they are supposed to be put down?
The dog tries to bite that lady and then goes for the officer and gets shot, who would have thought?

What's even the point of posts like this lol
These comments are retarded as fuck.
It was a fucking beautiful shot, I'll say that much.
But the article says the dog is still alive, so it isn't that tragic.
What gets me is there is a guy who is in obvious need of medical attention and everyone is yelling and screaming about a dog... seriously?
I feel bad for the officer. He was defending himself and others as the dog was attacking others when a man was down and needed medical attention. In his act of defense he was subject to being called a "Fucking pig" and a "Monster" by the crowd. Ignorant fucking people, I tell you.

No, it's Will Smith.
After watching that video i feel like shooting the crowd, good thing i'm not a police officer.

Basically police have images like that in their heads, if they second guess a Pitbull (or any dog for that matter) they could end up with very very serious injuries. ALL the time thug pieces of shit let pitbulls loose during raids / drug busts / etc. especially in the Bronx / Harlem / Yonkers / NYC areas.
It looks like that officer was barely ready to pull his gun let alone have a taser at the ready and not know how effective it will be. I work with police in the NYC area and I'm telling you a cop would rather shoot a pitbull charging him than try to taze / mace it 9/10's of the time.
(this one is interesting too - http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=572_1344265950)
Holy shit that video.
A cop getting jumpy by a dog.. Really?
A cop getting jumpy by a dog.. Really?
Yea, its amazing, Police officers are human and dont want to be bit by a dog
A cop getting jumpy by a dog.. Really?
Yeah, they should fucking man up and face something that can break bones with its jaw.
What a bunch of pussies.
A cop getting jumpy by a dog.. Really?
yo a dog can easily maim or kill you
I don't blame the cop at all, not only was the dog a threat to him, it was preventing him from getting to a unconscious and possibly dying man. The crowd was ridiculous, insulting a man trying to save a life.
Not to mention just before the dog ran towards the officer it did what looked like a bite to the lady's leg behind the guy on the ground. It may not have been but it sure sounds and looks like it, and that's enough cause to at the time shoot the dog while it's running at you justifiably

Thats a suburban neighborhood, this is new york city.
this was a good comment on the source:
"For some of you, when you grow up, you'll find out that sometimes life just fucking sucks and that there's no one to blame for some of its tragedies.
- The dog wasn't vicious. He was just trying to protect his master. It's how good dogs roll
- The cop isn't a barbaric brute. He's just some guy looking to go home to his family in one piece and found this dog between him and the guy he was sworn to help.
- The owner? He clearly fights his own demons and deserves some of our understanding too, no?
To say "shit happens" sounds cavalier for this instance, but you know what? Sometimes, shit just happens"
Spoken like a wise man.

It's a shame because pitbulls can be the nicest dogs you've ever seen. They just grow up to be so powerful that people train them to be that nasty.
that dog wouldn't have been hurt with a nightstick. come on think.. this isn't that hard.
Where's the post about that guy getting his arm broken with a light tap from one of those things?
Thats a suburban neighborhood, this is new york city.
All the more reason to have shot the dog in NYC.

That's actually how I first read the title and I have no idea why.
glad the dog was alright afterwards, fuck that cop for saying the dog should be put down after he shot it. too trigger happy imo, but it was somewhat justified.
