This was hard to watch...I thought the dog would die instantly but he was suffering for some time :(
The dog survived.
Yeah, I think I'd have tried to shoot it too. Even if there wasn't a guy dying on the sidewalk, I'm not especially interested in getting charged and savaged by a dog of any breed.
If there were an extra G on that Dog we would have been in some serious trouble here.

Get with the times! If it said Lion then we would be in serious trouble.
yo a dog can easily maim or kill you
a gun can easily kill you too
a gun can easily kill you too
So? It wasn't a human that was being shot at, it was a dog. Besides, in the cop's situation, it was either get mauled by that dog or shoot it and get called a "monster" or "pig" afterwards. It's a lose/lose situation, but in the end, the cop did what his training told him to do.
a gun can easily kill you too
Yup, and if someone was trying to shoot me and I could shoot them I'd shoot back. I honestly don't see your point here.
Ugh another argument about guns, seriously? Gekkosan...
This is horrible, I admit that.
But the officer was acting off instinct and in those few seconds he made a choice and that was to get rid of a threat he saw. He didn't have the time to shoot it in the leg or wound it in any other way to make it stop.
Trust me I love dogs and it sucks to see this happen but at least you have some comfort in the fact that the dog is still alive. And if I was in the same situation I would do that same thing, have you seen what a pitbull can do to a full grown mad? The chance of rabies? It just isn't a risk I would take.

the sky is blue
water is wet
Ugh another argument about guns, seriously? Gekkosan...
I didn't realize there was an argument. I thought we were just randomly listing off facts.
Gekkosan's comment is the beginning of another pointless gun argument where no one ever wins and it ends up in a 30 page thread.
I commented on the thread of this in the video section, may as well say it here too: The thing I'm most upset about is how people reacted, I mean there's videos out there of people getting beaten and mugged in public and people don't give a shit.
But oh man you shoot a dog in public and people want to start riots. Man people are terrible.

I agree, I don't care what creature it is. If it means to do you harm then you have to stop it.
Up in Alaska this happens all the time, whether it be wilds dogs, bears, or moose. These are animals that can't usually be controlled and sometimes have to be killed to stop them.

and hell the dog didn't even DIE. So that was lucky both on the officer's AND dog's part. They're both gonna live to see another day after all this shit.
Exactly, this seems to happening far too much. I honestly think these people just hate cops, seems to be all the rage right now. My father has a friend on the force and he gets called a pig all day because of the generalization about cops, but he is one of the nicest guys I know on and off duty.
I wonder what people would have said if it was a civilian that took the shot.
Stupid people can't even comprehend what they see in front of them. Put some common sense into the situation instead of blurting out what you saw like a barbarian.
The worst thing about the video of this is the sound of the dog in pain. It's seriously one of the worst sounds imaginable, especialy as a dog owner.
Not saying the cop did anything wrong, he was under threat by a dog following it's instinct to protect his owner.
No one did anything wrong, except for the woman who tried to get close, that is what triggered off the dog.
How I feel on this:
-First of all the DOG IS OKAY. in the news article they say hes still alive and in the hands of animal care, which surprises me since I heard 3 shots and after it wriggled on the ground it goes motionless
-The dog should have been deterred in a less deadly way. The officer had a right to defend himself, but why couldn't he have kicked the dog away or something? I know some petafag is gonna be mad because of that, but wouldnt you rather have the dog get a bloody nose and run away or get shot and nearly die?
-They used mace AFTER they fired two bullets into the fucking thing. Completely uneeded, especially since its only movement after it was shot was faceplanting into the pavement next to a bus full of people
-For the record, I feel the way police officers and SWAT teams deal with dogs during stops or raids is typically disgusting. There are tons of times where dogs get shot for just "being there" or just greeting the cops. I don't feel all cops are horrible, as I have law enforcement people in my family, but I feel how they handle situations like that is pretty fucking horrible.
-The police officer was technically in the right, yet he chose to handle the situation with excessive force and went as far as to mace the poor thing after they fired on it.

I have no idea how you get three shots out of that video, there was only one shot fired. The second officer started macing the dog while it was still moving around about a second after it was shot.
Also attempting to kick off a pissed off dog that in only a few feet away charging you isnt good bet to take.

You're right, but I do count 2 pops. Regardless, most dogs can't take a single bullet, which is surprising that it survived.
for anyone saying they should have used a taser or non-lethal means.

fucking 5 police officers hospitalised because of one dog.
like they are beating on the thing and it still doesn't come loose on the guy
and whereas in this thread, the dog survives and is making a recovery, because of the damage that dog did, they pinned it to the ground with a riot shield and shot it in the head.
Jesus christ, I dont understand how people think the cops should "Explore other options", or "Use a non-lethal weapon against the cute little doggie"... Their job is to protect the people, and that dog was charging everyone around an injured man, who needed help. The dog charged at the police officer, so the officer shot it. Its kinda the same if a muscular guy charges at a police officer in a situation like that... The attacker can easily maim the officer, and is charging at him, so he shoots. If he hadnt shot, he could have been seriously hurt.
Honestly I think the officer did what was right given the situation; dog trainers don't wear these ridiculous suits for no reason.
