Way for the president to be a asshole.
Iraq is a centralized, developed, moderately educated and civilized country. It couldn't be further from Afghanistan, which is an undeveloped tribal shithole that hasn't changed significantly in 2000 years. Nothing that worked in Iraq is going to transfer.
True, Lets just apply the same ethics to afgan. Woot it will work.
And we just bought ourselves another year in Afghanistan, because that's at least how long it will take for Petraeus to get his shit together. The two wars have extreme differences and the strategy you use for a developed, literate country is very different from the strategy you use in a shithole with no commerce, communication, or literacy.
Should have given McChrystal a quick scolding and sent him back to Afghanistan to keep doing his job, because he's the only one with enough experience in that war and that country to know how to finally bring this shit to an end.
All you have to do is get all the troops out of Afghanistan. And the war is over.
But Obama is too much of a pussy imperialist to do that.

Forget Petraeus, he should have put you in charge, what with your extensive knowledge on how wars work!
I believe this is actually the most badass name for a General

Too bad he's retired.
Obama needs to stop being a woman.
me strong man, me smarter and braver and more powerful than girly obama
[editline]05:23PM[/editline]
do you really think it's that simple? He can just say "let's get outta here, maybe pick up some taco bell on the way home" and that's it, war over? Nevermind the fact that if the General had criticized a president you liked, you'd make a 180 turn and be calling for his removal.
You're so dead-set on criticizing the president and proving that you're smarter than him that you're just making up excuses to say childish things about him.
PvtCupcakes. Its not that EASY.

I really don't care if someone wants to call a good president a wuss like McChrystal did. Big whoop. I wouldn't even care if he said the same thing about Thomas Jefferson. Obama is butthurt.
Why can't it be that simple? It was that simple sending troops there.

you sure sound like a child when you use the word butthurt

Obama is faced with insubordination. You're just making another excuse to criticize him.
Why can't it be that simple? It was that simple sending troops there.
No it wasn't. He can't just say "let's leave" and leave, the president isn't omnipotent, he has limited power, and to end the war is outside of his ability to do alone. It would take several acts of congress to withdraw from the war, and lord knows the republicans aren't going to support any withdrawal bill he proposes, they now oppose anything he suggests simply because he's the one who suggested it.

If I insulted my boss I would expect to be fired. Being that the Military is much more strict with things like that then your everyday workplace, is it any surprise he was fired?

he's not going to listen to you. he's already made up his mind that he's going to criticize obama, no logical reasoning is going to change that.
After reading about Petraeus, he seems like a great candidate for the job.
When a General takes the piss out of the very government he's fighting for don't you think people are going to question the government?
Questioning of government, isn't that one of the principles of democracy or something?
Questioning of government, isn't that one of the principles of democracy or something?
Not when you're in the fucking military.
That's like saying that the right to freedom of expression means you can disobey a direct order from a superior.
He is a pretty badass General too.
Hell yeah,
he suffered one of the more dramatic incidents in his career when, in 1991, he was accidentally shot in the chest during a live-fire exercise when a soldier tripped and his rifle discharged.[29] He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, where he was operated on by future U.S. Senator Bill Frist. The hospital released him early after he did fifty push ups without resting, just a few days after the accident

Hell yeah,
He also has cancer and has refused to take a break while he's sick. He's pretty cool.
That's how the Military works people.
There's no due process and there's no 'calling to senate to fire the general'. Obama is Commander in Chief, placing him above General, or General of the Army, he has every right to remove another commander whether the general public agrees or not.
He resigned because it was the right thing to do. He didn't get fired.
lol
you clearly have no idea how subordination works
This.
However, McChrystal is completely right on what he said, but nevertheless, it's insuboordination.
This.

Weren't you just arguing the opposite side?

Why can't he? Bush sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq without a declaration of war.
Yeah, but you don't just fire random people (who may be very useful in their position) just over disagreeing with you. That's called a dictatorship.
The President didn't even try to correct the guy. He just replaced him with another general who may or may not be nearly as useful in that capacity. Obama obviously isn't even thinking about the repercussions of what he's doing.
Get a job and call your boss a prick. You're not gonna be working there for very long.
Why can't he? Bush sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq without a declaration of war.
congress approved them
I don't agree with what he did, but he didn't just say "lol k we're going to afghanistan and iraq."
Oh Boo Hoo let's force a god damn 4 star general out of his career because he said BAD WORDS that we don't approve of!
If we did that to all our generals, You could forget about winning world war two
Also, Congress approved the declaration of war in Afghanistan on September 14th, 2001. With a vote of 98-0 in the senate and 420-1 in the house... who the fuck was that one I wonder
Well Okay, it was approved by congress but it wasn't an actual formal Declaration of War, It was also authorized by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions
Bullshit.
[editline]12:11AM[/editline]
Why don't we jail every anti-obama group for treason, or jail all actors in comedy sketches involving him

Over simplifying this situation the way you did is so infuriating I can barely put it into words.
Over simplifying this situation the way you did is so infuriating I can barely put it into words.
Well try to next time, so you can properly convey how infuriated you are
You know it's true... Hellen Thomas, Don Imus... All big time careers ousted because of one thing that they said somewhere that people didn't like. Whatever happened to balls, doesn't anyone have any anymore?
Bullshit.

because those groups aren't direct subordinates of Obama
and he's not going to jail, you daft idiot. he's just resigning

I'm not saying he's going to jail, but Mister Obama can't fire people who make fun of them, he can only jail them for spreading "lies"
