I'm not saying he's going to jail, but Mister Obama can't fire people who make fun of them, he can only jail them for spreading "lies"
what the flying fuck are you on about
Why don't we jail every anti-obama group for treason, or jail all actors in comedy sketches involving him
terrible analogy learn what insubordination is
Bullshit. [editline]12:11AM[/editline] Why don't we jail every anti-obama group for treason, or jail all actors in comedy sketches involving him
I don't think you understand the concept that the Military isn't a democracy. It was insubordination on his part; he disrespected his commander-in-chief and deserved to be dismissed.
It's very similar to Truman dismissing MacArthur during the Korean war.
Oh Boo Hoo let's force a god damn 4 star general out of his career because he said BAD WORDS that we don't approve of! If we did that to all our generals, You could forget about winning world war two Also, Congress approved the declaration of war in Afghanistan on September 14th, 2001. With a vote of 98-0 in the senate and 420-1 in the house... who the fuck was that one I wonder Well Okay, it was approved by congress but it wasn't an actual formal Declaration of War, It was also authorized by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions
I agree completely, but still, Obama counts this as insuboordination. Obama doesn't really care, he's just butthurt that he's finally getting criticism, methinks. [editline]10:29AM[/editline]
It's very similar to Truman dismissing MacArthur during the Korean war.
I thought MacArthur got dismissed for arguing over war policy, not leader competence. Wasn't it like Truman was afraid to piss off the Soviet Union so he made a defensive strategy instead of offensive?
Alot of people here totally disregard the fact that the President is ranked Commander in Chief.
Alot of people here totally disregard the fact that the President is ranked Commander in Chief.
people like Gmod will just take every chance they can to criticize Obama don't expect to last long if you start bashing your boss at work
Petraeus sounds like something from Ancient Greek folklore.
I was watching Question Time earlier (a program for discussing British politics) and the subject of Gen. McChrystal being sacked was raised by someone (more specifically, was it Obama's ego that led to it). I lol'd hard when a member of the audience then went on to ask a question relating to "Obama sacking General MacArthur".
Petraeus sounds like something from Ancient Greek folklore.
That's what I always thought.

Guys, it isn't because Obama is butthurt or because the general said mean words and hurt his feelings. It's insubordination, which can possibly lead to treason if you don't nip it in the bud. It also is demoralizing to troops to hear that the man they're taking orders and also pretty much decides if they live or die is being a brat instead of actually expressing logical criticism to the government.
He knew this would happen as a result of his actions, it's clear that he wanted out. And by shit-talking before his resignation there's much more media coverage. It may not have been the professional thing to do, but it got his message out.
people against this move clearly have no idea how the military works
people against this move clearly have no idea how the military works
It was a precedent set up by our first president to IGNORE criticism. To remove someone below you for simply venting about a frustrating situation because you haven't been listening is a sign of weak leadership. A real leader would instead, ask what the soldier below him SHOULD be doing. Seriously, the Taliban have been made a strong retake of a bunch of key territories SINCE DECEMBER. McChrystal has been telling the White House staff that they need more free range to move and they're gonna have to stay longer if they want a stable working government in Afghanistan. Petraeus has been noted they aren't going to CHANGE anything. You never let a legislative body make a war decision, or you end up with Operation Market Garden.

Also, as we've pointed out, Obama didn't fire him because he criticized him, it's because he committed insubordination, which is a serious crime. He could have been court-marshaled if he didn't resign.
