seriousness doesnt mean shit
you reverted to personal attacks when you didnt have an argument
Except that he did have an argument, alongside completely correct and viable insults against you. He had a few points. You had none. All you did is mock his point of view by taking it to the extremes, as well as throwing irrelevant subjects in. You never held a point, and your entire side of the discussion was mindless, aimless, and once you ran out of space to run around you started attacking him, and not his point. That is what Ad Hominem is.
i think abortion is an issue between the mother, father, and doctor, it is not the business of anyone but those 3 parties
if a mother is willing to kill her unborn child, if a father is willing to kill his unborn child, and a trained physician is willing to perform the procedure it is acceptable, but you cannot deny that the act is killing an unborn human being
ad hominem is dis-regarding an argument or standpoint based on the person who made it, not the merit of the argument or standpoint
a famous example of ad hominem is: "hitler was a vegetarian, therefore vegetarianism is evil because hitler is evil"

you want to know why its ignorant to compare a retarded person and a fetus?
a retarded person feels emotion. they feel pain. they have memories. they have developed personalities.
they have friends. they have families. they have likes and dislikes. they are alive, a fetus is not.

No, you understood it wrong.
The correct example is "You are a vegetarian, and therefore cannot be part of this meat-related discussion." The Hitler example is a completely different argument.

wait wat?
a fetus feels emotion, they feel pain, they have memories, they have family, and they have the same amount of personality as a 1 year old, they only lack likes and dislikes because they havent had the time to get them
and they are alive
7 characteristics of life:
Cells
Homeostasis
Heredity
Use of Energy
Reproduction
Response to Environment
Evolution and Adaptation
they follow these characteristics and are thus a living organism

no, then what argument is it?
these are examples of ad hominem
White men are "privileged", so they can't comment on female oppression.
That Boris Godunov was the favorite opera of Joseph Stalin indicates the worthlessness of the opera.
Sylvia Plath was a depressive who eventually committed suicide, so her works are unreadable.
Leni Riefenstahl was a Nazi, so her film The Triumph of the Will is devoid of merit.
that is ad hominem
[editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
also:
Gratuitous verbal abuse or "name-calling" itself is not an ad hominem or a logical fallacy.[6][7][8][9][10]
In order to become a fallacy, the insult would need to given as a reason for believing some conclusion, for example, "X is idiotically ignorant [of politics], so why should we listen to him now?"
Do you have a source for this or did you just pull your information out of your ass?
How about letting women decide if they want an abortion or not.
Seems pretty reasonable.
huh me and rick santorum graduated from the same high school.
oh god I have something in common with him
Do you have a source for this or did you just pull your information out of your ass?
you really need a source?

what do you think that a fetus instantly gains these characteristics once they are born or something?
Their body, their choice.
simple.
Their body, their choice.

the father should have as much of a say in whether a fetus gets aborted as well unless there is evidence of abuse, in which case the father gets no say(or the opposite holds true if the woman is abusive)
the father should have as much of a say in whether a fetus gets aborted as well unless there is evidence of abuse, in which case the father gets no say(or the opposite holds true if the woman is abusive)
You can't be serious.
"Well, my wife's kinda reluctant to get an abortion, but I want her to. Perform an abortion for her, please, doctor."
"My wife's afraid of the pain of childbirth, and would really just like to adopt, but I'm just not feeling the whole "abortion" thing right now. Don't let her do it."
Seriously?
And if the woman is abusive, she should be forced to either have an invasive procedure that gets pretty emotional, or to have a child, which is long, painful, and also pretty emotional?
I mean, sure, she abused the guy, but that's just not right.
You can't be serious.

no a father shouldnt be allowed to force an abortion but a father should be able to veto an abortion since it is as much his child as the mother
if a father vetoes an abortion from the mother the mother has to give birth and loses all custody rights of the child to the father
no a father shouldnt be allowed to force an abortion but a father should be able to veto an abortion since it is as much his child as the mother
I can't believe I'm reading this
Husbands don't own their wives you idiot
the father should have absolutely no say. the person who has to carry a painful burden for 9 months should have the ultimate say
no a father shouldnt be allowed to force an abortion but a father should be able to veto an abortion since it is as much his child as the mother

Oh god you are serious.
You seriously think it's okay to FORCE a woman through childbirth, which she doesn't want to do, and then lose any custody rights of her 9-month ordeal that she's no doubt grown emotionally attached to, just because the father's a dickweed who doesn't understand that there's a such thing as 'adoption' or 'finding a new relationship'!?
Okay, I was pretty hesitant to agree with the guys calling you dumbasses before, but...
Yeah. That's stupid as shit.
Edit: Rated tool for misogyny.

they dont but its their child
how sexist is it that a woman has full control of the fate of child that is equally the fathers

lol sexist
[editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
i mean a mother shouldnt have the right to kill a fathers child if the father wants to raise it himself
the father shouldnt be forced to find a new relationship if he wants to father his child
i'm sorry but it is not an equally shared burden so the father sure as fuck shouldn't be given equal weight in the decision
they dont but its their child
how sexist is it that a woman has full control of the fate of child that is equally the fathers
It isn't a child until it's no longer part of the mother
they dont but its their child
how sexist is it that a woman has full control of the fate of child that is equally the fathers
You haven't learned about pregnancy in school yet, have you.
That's the only way you could actually think that it's sexist to let a woman have more control over something growing INSIDE HER for 9 months than some guy she fucked.
And then you posted your things on abortion in previous posts either from thinking babies all come from test tubes, or from the future.
It seriously makes more sense than you thinking that it's unfair for a man to have equal control over a woman's body as she does.
i'm sorry but it is not an equally shared burden so the father sure as fuck shouldn't be given equal weight in the decision
uh its equally his genetic material, its his offspring as much as the womans no matter who carries the burden
again, a mother should not have the right to kill a fathers offspring
It isn't a child until it's no longer part of the mother
its his fetus then, its his offspring
I'm still wondering whether or not he has some kind of secret agenda brewing under all of this... crap.
Ew
its his fetus then, its his offspring
how is it connected to him in any way
is it part of his body? no
You haven't learned about pregnancy in school yet, have you.

because i look at this from an objective standpoint
its irrelevant whether or not the woman carries the child for 9 months, its still equally the fathers
no its equal control over his offsprings body
not the womans body
[editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
how is it connected to him in any way

its his genetic material, its his offspring, he gets a right to raise it
As far as REPRODUCTION is concerned, the fathers job is done when he ejaculates inside the female. (In many species, this is when the male abandons the female)
ya and many species just lay their offspring in eggs and let them fend for themselves when they hatch
your point?
uh its equally his genetic material, its his offspring as much as the womans no matter who carries the burden

You seriously think it's "fair" to force a woman through childbirth just because the guy she slept with wants her too, despite her will.
You're an idiot.
This isn't an opinion.
This isn't flaming.
This isn't ad hominem.
This is fact.
