People don't dislike this kind of thing because they don't think the bank has a right to profit, they dislike it because they don't have unlimited trucks of money like banks do. And while we're talking about "rights" the customers also have a right to tell a bank to fuck off and take their business to another bank.
And that's why I use a credit union.
This is exactly why I'm thinking of transferring to a credit union. I would be helping out locally
I would like to go to a credit union, since I hate that I MUST maintain a minimum balance of $250 in my checking account or else I get a $10 fee from Wells Fargo every month. I have a regular income so its not hard to do, but I hate the principle. Plus being asked about stuff at the bank is annoying. Unfortunately, the town I go to college in doesn't have one, and I'd rather not drive an hour to the nearest one to deposit a paycheck.
No fuck you bank of America. What I understand is you're a moneygrubbing twat. I'M TAKING MY MONEY ELSEWHERE
They have the right to earn profit, not just to make it.

The one I'm looking at also has a good credit union about an hours drive away.

The worrying thing is that in 1995 there were 40 major banks in the United States. Today there is only 4, a clusterfuck of mega national corporation upholders. As well as this, a CEO in the USA has a wage ratio to the average worker of 475:1 The bourgeois have gone too far comrades.
I am afraid you won't succeed with this, here. It has been a long time since I had had to physically deposit a check (Job pays with direct deposit) but I believe you can scan a check and deposit it digitally.
Credit Unions for the people!
I think I'm going to be moving to TechCU soon. I hate paying monthly for things. Especially when they use my money to invest in things and I only see .05% of the profits.
How much taxpayer money did BoA get, again? And now they just want to take more money away from people, and cry about making a profit while they do it? Fuck Bank of America, I hope their customers abandon them in droves.
I just told my friend about this and now he wants to leave Bank of America. Good thing I signed up for Sovereign Bank.
This is just shit no matter how you look at it. Really we bail them out and they make us pay a 5$ fee for using their services, BoFA can fuck off. Even though i do not bank with them they should know better when they get bailed out, they do not have as much of a right to profit as they do. Really CEO's fuck off and learn not to fuck with the common people really pisses me off.
What college do you go to? The one I'm looking at also has a good credit union about an hours drive away.
DSU in Madison, SD. Very small town. The have a credit union...but its not the same one my hometown uses.
Well, time to withdraw and cancel my account. It was fun being able to buy stuff from Steam.
Pretty sure BOA paid its bailout loan within a year...
These motherfuckers took bailouts, billions of dollars from taxpayers. WE BAILED them out and they continue to act like we're a fucking inconvenience. I find it so funny that they talk about the right to make a profit but i think they lost any right to complain after these banks gave people who shouldn't have had credit - hell they gave people to much credit, continued with the toxic loans and various other get rich quick schemes they had. They took bailouts that didn't help anyone but the CEOS who bragged about record high bonuses after talking our money and flushing it down the toilet. I'm glad I'm with a military-sponsored credit union, I don't have to worry about fee's, monthly charges and i can get loan fairly easy if needed. I also get customer service and i know they will not do anything unnecessary.
Oh, if it's only this we have this in Canada already. I pay $11 a month for unlimited debit card uses in stores and whatnot, Free withdraws from their atms too it seems, only $1.50 from other companies atms.
Actually, it might be just my bank (TD) but you're also charged $1.50 by them as well as the ATM company. That + extremely restrictive daily limits on ATM withdrawals means atleast for myself that it ends up costing a decent amount if I don't drive down to a branch and use theirs every time.
It may be a $5 monthly fee, but do you have monthly account keeping fees? (Just to have the account open)

European master race.
Let's bank-rush the bastards. Actually, I have a genuine question: What happens when you rush a bank?
This is why I use a different bank, it's called the "Middle Couch Cushion First National Bank" and I'm the owner and a customer.
Holy fudge the banking system in America sounds awfull. Here in Norway i just go to the bank and give them my money, and i can withdraw it with a card. Sounds simple? Because it is. Sadly, since i am 16, i can't get a real debit card, only some Visa Electron thing, so i can't purchase from online stores and such.

I have a cousin in the marines, can I 'ninja' my way into Navy Federal? [editline]7th October 2011[/editline]
Let's bank-rush the bastards.
DSU in Madison, SD. Very small town. The have a credit union...but its not the same one my hometown uses.
Nevermind then. I'm headed to WIU next year, in Macomb, IL.
This sort of shit is why I stopped using BofA and now use Navy Federal. It is a credit union, not a bank. Functionally, they are identical, but there is one key difference. What you are doing when you deposit money with Navy Federal is you are buying a portion of the company. A share. Every share is five dollars and the interest on your deposit is actually dividends being paid out on your share of the company. It still works exactly like a bank. You just aren't a customer, you are a part owner. They have proven to be better in every way possible to regular banks.
What happens when the stock goes down and you want to withdraw money, do you lose some?
hey moneyhanpretty sure you're already making a profit...
They're only profitting a bit more than 2 billion a year. It's alot to an individual, but is not considered a lot in the top tiered corporates.
It may be a $5 monthly fee, but do you have monthly account keeping fees? (Just to have the account open)
BoA charges I think $15 a month 'service fee' if your account is under $750 or you don't have a direct deposit going on. They can fuck off with their stupid debit card fees. How the fuck dare you charge someone to use their goddamn money.

I just closed my BoA account recently, for the same reason as this thread is pointing out.
