U.S. Airstrikes Destroy Millions In ISIS Currency Holdings

In this situation it isn't a matter of not killing civilians as thats pretty much impossible. At this point its about killing as few civilians as humanly possible since ISIS hides in population centers.

Gold star for you! It is amazing what little knowledge everyone tends to keep from WWII. The nukes are a huge history maker and game changer but far from the deadliest attack vector.
Edit: before you go nuts, I am talking WW2 nukes... dont compare to what we have today.

This is what makes America what it is in terms of military tactics and accountability. We tend to coddle the need to protect innocent life as people exploit that very strength as a vulnerability. America is far from perfect but in terms of response and potential death to innocent, we are very good at it. Imagine if our current enemies were held to the international scrutiny for all actions as we are.
Meh, the world is fucked. Lets get some popcorn.
Exceptable or acceptable?
There'd have been a lot more death if not for the nukes - fighting over Okinawa or Guadalcanal is one thing, but fighting for their homeland? A lot of people who would otherwise be civilians would have been dragged in to, if not eager to join in the defence.
Agreed and this was the root of the decision. I feel that both Japan and America have come to terms with our past and look to the future with out dwelling on it. This is a huge strength I give to the people of Japan.
If we look at both Japan and America... we both have some very dirty past that neither want to pick at. lol
I know full well nuking both Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved a lot of lives, but there was still a staggering amount of casualties. I was just making a point that while saying that while sometimes civilian lives have to be put on the balance for the "Greater Good", it's not a decision to take lightly.
I'm still glad they waited to do the airstrike so they wouldn't cause too many civilian casualties. I'm sure a lot of people working under ISIS (That aren't pure soldiers) are doing it to feed their families or even just survive.

to be fair, accounts from many soldiers involved especially in the bombing raids had exactly the same mindset. The soldiers knew that they had to do an unpleasant task (firebombing major Japanese and german cities) but they said that it pretty much had to be done in order to break down resistance. And the guys who did the actual drops of the atomic bombs were even worse off in that regard.
Every little bit of damage being done to IS at this point is welcome, but rn this is a blip on the balance sheet with how much IS is making.

then we have the firebombing of Dresden, which in terms of strategic goals achieved basically nothing and lead to many innocent Germans dying for frankly no good reason at all
