this happened in the UK
Someone didn't read the op very closely.
New London, US =/= London, UK
Overqualified? That can't be a bad thing...
We need smarter cops. Maybe then the vast majority of cops wont complete idiots and not do their job...
So his IQ was higher than 90?
125 isn't even that high, really. It's certainly above average, but it's not even close to genius or anything like that.
It's about as high as Richard Feynman scored.
I don't think I really need to add anything else on top of that.
That was probably already said but IQ != Intelligence. It just means that under certain circumstances (aka the ones of an IQ test) you are thinking slightly faster than someone else. The value itself isn't even reliable as it can greatly vary depending on your physical and mental status at the moment of the evaluation, so basically the IQ is a shit statistic, except if you pass something like 5 tests and do an average.
Not true, IQ is a measure of pattern recognition ability not the speed of thought

You don't need to be a genius or even have an above average IQ to be talented or a good thinker. IQ is pretty much a useless measurement anyways
A guy had to go all the way up to the 2nd court just to settle a ruling about training that costs the state a few thousand dollars at most? It's ridiculous how states are forced to act like this while the federal government is spending billions daily.
Does no one know what an IQ test is? It's not about how smart you are, or how fast your brain is. It's a literally a glorified pattern recognition test which gauges your ability to recognize patterns over a variety of subjects. It shows afterwords what your relative ability to recognize patterns is compared to the average of the day, which is always gauged at 100.

That's what I'm trying to say. You basically said the exact opposite by saying that an IQ of 125 was not 'close to genius'. Feynman WAS a genius, and Feynman had an IQ of about 125.

Oh hey, you more or less beat me to it.
I guess this explains why there are so many dumb cops

I meant that it's not even close to genius on the IQ scale, which is set at a minimum of 140
IQ is purely retaining knowledge, memory, etc, it doesn't really measure how well one actually uses it.
Even if you can remember entire math books, it doesn't mean jack shit if you can't even apply that knowledge.
Now, remembering a math book front to back after reading it 3 times and very easily remembering AND applying it all. THAT is true intelligence.
IQ tests more than memory. Have you ever actually taken an IQ test? Here are a few samples:
The day before the day before yesterday is three days after Saturday. What day is it today?
At the end of a banquet 10 people shake hands with each other. How many handshakes will there be in total?
Which diagram results from folding the diagram on the left?

These test spacial, logical, and visualization portions of the brain. You can't just memorize a math book and be able to do these questions, especially not quickly(an IQ test is also timed, with a very short amount of time for each question).
It's not even close to genius on the IQ scale, which is set at a minimum of 140
Just because I feel like being a douche, and because I have recently taken legitimate IQ tests, I am now going to tell you what my three scores average out to be.
133 IQ average.
Something like 124 for mathematics, and my reading skills were about 145 or so...
I meant that it's not even close to genius on the IQ scale, which is set at a minimum of 140
Which leads us back full circle - the scale is bullshit. There are SO MANY people who have IQs of like 130 or above who will never even come close to being as brilliant as Feynman.

Someone with a high IQ has a heightened ability to reason and visualize.
So if someone has the IQ of Feynman, they have the same core abilities as him, but not necessarily the education, drive, or passion to measure up on a practical level.

Ahh, then I have at high school some time ago.
I'm above most with visual information and average with vocal information, but under average with math.
I struggle with math like a bitch.
Even double digit addition I'm like "Oh fuck it"

Just wondering...

Yup, good job.
Yup. And the other two (I think) are Saturday (you can reword the question so it works in a 'forward' direction instead of a backwards one. I found it easier that way), and 45 (sum of 1 through 9).

Tip for double digit addition is to break it up.
53 + 29
50 + 20 = 70
9 + 3 = 12
70 + 12 = 82
Super simple when you do it like that in your head, at least if you practice it a little.
Yup, good job.
I feel so smart :v:

Or you can shift digits. Like 53 + 29 is the same as 50 + 32 which is pretty easy to do.

The answer to the second one is Friday actually.
The day before the day before yesterday is three days after Saturday. What day is it today?
2(tuesday) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5(Friday)

1. Friday
2. 50? I think?
3. A
[editline]2:00AM[/editline]
Why is number 2 45?
[editline]2:00AM[/editline]
Nevermind I figured it out
Or you can shift digits. Like 53 + 29 is the same as 50 + 32 which is pretty easy to do.
Yea, it's easy when you are adding a multiple of 10 to anything, and a multiple of 5, to a lesser extent.

Sum of 1-9
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 45

Ah, yes. So it is.
Sum of 1-9
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 45
Yeah, or it's 10x9/2 I figured it out
Imagine it like this.
If you were person one, you would have to shake 9 hands.
Every other person would have to shake 9 hands as well.
So for every person(10) there are 9 handshakes.
That would be 9 x 10 = 45. Or the sum of 1-9.
