Good for you, but a point to remember is that those tests really don't mean much. Having genius level pattern recognition is amazing I'm sure, but it's not everything.
Meh. It sucks when you try to interact with people. You don't realize it, but you come off like a self-loving piece of shit who knows everything there is to know about everything. The problem is, you can't stop yourself.
Policymen need to enforce corporate policy - NOT think for themselves.
Fuck I can't be a police officer, I scored 135 when I did my IQ tests 3 years ago :v:
That was probably already said but IQ != Intelligence. It just means that under certain circumstances (aka the ones of an IQ test) you are thinking slightly faster than someone else. The value itself isn't even reliable as it can greatly vary depending on your physical and mental status at the moment of the evaluation, so basically the IQ is a shit statistic, except if you pass something like 5 tests and do an average.
The other big problem with IQ is that it's pushing people to be assholes. Tell someone he's intelligent and give him a value that isn't contested by most of the world as a proof and you have a fifty-fifty chance of seeing him turn into a giant douche and refuse to take orders from others/respect their opinions because he estimates he doesn't have to, as some arbitrary value told he was smarter than them.
They might have not picked that one cop because that high IQ could have pushed him towards being an asshole who thinks he doesn't have to take orders/to treat people well because he's smarter than them. But again seeing how much shit stains are in the Police, it's really being stupid to not take a guy because he might turn into a douche while having an assumed, obvious douche right in front of you misusing pepper sprays and tazers and going police brutality over anyone in the street for jackshit reasons.
Maybe it's just me but this sounds like butthurt.
Not true, IQ is a measure of pattern recognition ability not the speed of thought
[editline]1st January 2012[/editline]
You don't need to be a genius or even have an above average IQ to be talented or a good thinker. IQ is pretty much a useless measurement anyways
IQ is a measure of potential really; it acts as a gauge of how quickly and accurately someone can analyse and solve logical problems. More specifically, logical problems that lack "interference", for lack of a better word. No issues from the real world, no descriptions, no biases seep into these questions and patterns. It is not at all a worthless measurement, but it also does not gauge a person's ability to apply their skills.
Applying that mental capacity to daily life requires creativity, wisdom, and experience. It may also require more specific skills or knowledge from a specific field. Someone with a higher IQ may find it easier to draw connections between all of the knowledge and skills they pick up, and this would in effect make them more intelligent. However, they may be the kind of person who is unable to shrug off the irrelevant details, or they may not understand somethings are more important than others, or they may not understand probability, etc... lots of different things from the real world can seep into otherwise logical problems that can throw these people off, making them inefficient or even worthless at what they're doing. Often, a person with a high IQ just needs to find a field where their particular problem has little or no effect, and then their true colors shine through. Then again, they might be literally retarded and simply be unable to ever apply an otherwise logical mind to real life situations. You never know.
Of course with all that said, the IQ measurement still isn't all that accurate, and naturally even seemingly average people will go on to do great things. Perhaps they are an outlier that the test doesn't cover? Maybe their brain is just wired to do that one thing? Or maybe their wisdom/experience is sufficient to trump other short comings? You never know. Maybe they just didn't give two fucks and drew a dick on the IQ test.
This sounds like something from Simpsons.
IQ tests should have very little to no bearing on any job application. Intelligence can't be objectively measured.
I meant that it's not even close to genius on the IQ scale, which is set at a minimum of 140
Depends on the test really. Some tests it's 160, others it's 140 like you said.
Meh. It sucks when you try to interact with people. You don't realize it, but you come off like a self-loving piece of shit who knows everything there is to know about everything. The problem is, you can't stop yourself.
I had a similar problem, all I had to do was stop correcting people unless the detail was absolutely key

The future isn't heading in the Idiocracy direction.
It passed it back in 2001. The world in Idiocracy seems to be more functioning and intelligent than America today.

Hey, there are still some smart people here!
Tip for double digit addition is to break it up.
53 + 29
50 + 20 = 70
9 + 3 = 12
70 + 12 = 82
Super simple when you do it like that in your head, at least if you practice it a little.
along these lines
Multiply by 5 (inverted for division) you multiply by 2 (or 10) and then divide by 10 (or 2)
Multiplication by 11 for 2 digit numbers
11*45 = 495
4+5 = 9
Digit A(Digit A + Digit B)Digit B
11*51 = 561
5+1 = 6
Hey, there are still some smart people here!
Yeah, but they speak like fags and their shits all fucked up.
I've had a cop tell me that "smart people go to jail".
...this is why america falling apart, retards in offices and retards who vote them in.
yes, "retards"
god forbid we have political discourse without being fucking ableists!
I did an internet IQ test once and got 114. I didn't expect to be that high since I was trying to take an IQ test on the internet.
This kinda thing is what leads to a police state; plenty of dumb cattle soldiers to blindly follow orders and subsist on cheap lowly diets of donuts and coffee.
Intelligent cops are the best kind of cop; they know when to disobey outrageous commands and not engage in vile brutality. Sure it makes them a loose cannon, but at least they're not a cannon that blows a hole through an unarmed civilian for mocking his dart-playing ability.
Intelligence doesn't really have much to do with how much an asshole you are.
This is retarded.

Even smart cops are unlikely to disobey outrageous commands.
105 is average? I thought average was around 115.
[editline]3rd January 2012[/editline]
Oh well, seems I'm now 'above average'. (Last test - 118)

IQ is generally shifted to around 100 being average.
IQ is generally shifted to around 100 being average.
The average has always been 100.
The average has always been 100.
So I wonder if half the population scores lower than that, or if the average just got dragged down by relatively few idiots with ridiculously low scores.
Most years, the average IQ slowly climbs, and so the numbers have to be readjusted to bring the center back to 100. To put it another way: you might test at 150, but a decade later your IQ is only worth 145, even though your actual intelligence hasn't changed. This is because, as a whole, people are becoming more intelligent over time.
Of course, that is only one interpretation of that data. I prefer to think that a growing amount of freely available information and a focus on teaching people how to think rather than what to think is driving the numbers up.
