Friend of mine just bought them all yesterday. And you guys do know that all of the proceeds go to the red cross, right?
Donation shit like this pisses me off, because I know a most people aren't donating because they like what the cause or whatever, they're donating for the item, prize, object, ect., but they're using "it's for charity" to justify their "purchase".
Still better than them not "donating" at all. If it gets more people paying, then why not?
There are a lot of people who buy these hats that would have not donated otherwise. So I see this as nothing but a smart move by Valve.
i find it so fucking funny that people pay this much money for a cosmetic item that you can't even see lmao
I find it funny that people like you are ignorant to the fact that the money goes to the Japanese disaster relief fund
I might just get that 100 dollar hat. I dont have a car, im unemployed, my board is only a small amount, and my unemployment money is just sitting in my account. Why not do something completely unselfish for once and actually help out a good cause? What does the money go to actually? I know its the Red Cross, but is it spread out? Like between repairing buildings and getting medical supplies and things like that?
What does the money go to actually? I know its the Red Cross, but is it spread out? Like between repairing buildings and getting medical supplies and things like that?
Red cross decides on what money goes where. Not like it matters, as long as it helps

The article already covered this.
Obviously, any and all gestures of this kind raise questions of whether and how much the apparently philanthropic company benefits from making them. That may be so. It may also be true that direct donations from the companies in question could amount to far more money than could be accrued from fans. It’s a dense and cyclic argument- but the net result is money going to disaster relief in Japan, and increased awareness amongst gamers of the need for said relief. Promotion – e.g. this post – is an entirely inevitable by-product, not necessarily a cynical one. Perhaps there’s always a better way, but that doesn’t mean for one second that other ways are worthless. If an exclusive hat is what it takes to make you donate, that’s no bad thing.

Yeah, I mean it's not like it's for a good cause or anything, that would be stupid. lmao
Please, knowing the TF2 community, most people probably wouldn't have given a shit if there wasn't a hat involved.
Nice investment [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] +300% in 1 year time
If you really wanted to assist Japan, you would just donate your money directly to one of their aid services. You can donate a larger sum, and it has less bullshit to go through before it gets to where it matters. I don't see why you need to buy a fucking hat for a children's game before you can help Japan.
I see this as a way to get a broader group of people to donate. Granted, they're probably not donating because they want to help Japan, but they're still helping out. As such, I don't see this as a bad thing to be doing.

At least Valve decided to harness TF2's braindead community's wallets for a good cause
TF2 is getting ridiculous. [editline]27th March 2011[/editline]
If you really wanted to assist Japan, you would just donate your money directly to one of their aid services.
If you really wanted to assist Japan, you would just donate your money directly to one of their aid services. You can donate a larger sum, and it has less bullshit to go through before it gets to where it matters. I don't see why you need to buy a fucking hat for a children's game before you can help Japan.
People that buys these hats either: A) Have already donated but thinks "sure, why the hell not, I get a hat for it". or B) Doesn't really care about what's happening in Japan but sees it as a good oppurtunity to help someone and getting something for it. or C) Doesn't give a shit about Japan but wants a super exclusive hat. And in any case it all goes to aid the Japanese. So what's the problem? It makes people that don't care for donations to Japan (like me) donate anyways by buying a hat (not like me).
i dont know i might buy at lest one hat, like everyone else said its for a good cause
Japan doesn't need money, this isn't Haiti. They need people to physically contribute to rebuilding what was destroyed.
Japan doesn't need money, this isn't Haiti. They need people to physically contribute to rebuilding what was destroyed.
There is absolutely more than enough Japanese there to do that, I promise you. They have a really high number of unemployed people over there. That is also what this money helps with. Giving them resources to get the people on their feet allowing them to handle the situation to get them back to a normal life as fast as possible.
The only thing that stops me from buying this is the hats' almost zero value. I mean, it's cool, but I want to do something with them later, for example you can sell an unusual hat for real money/exchange for more tf2 hats and items. You can't with these hats. As for the donation, I better go straight for the red cross site

Bought for selling to others later to earn a lot more money for own purposes. It's almost like acting like a hobo, getting some helper package or whatever from some organization and then sell that shit to some rich bitch. (Given that there was something God knows what in that package that would appeal to a rich bitch. But you get the idea)
That is why I said I better go straight for the red cross site for donation.
Of course not, you fucking retarded news writer.
god damn you are a rude cunt
