The USSR was incompetent woah this is news to me.
[QUOTE=demoguy08;20252941]Vodka is a fairly decent coolant as long as you avoid sub -40c temps. Edit 100% proof vodka, that is. But hey, it's Russians.[/QUOTE] Russians probably distill theirs from bears blood. [editline]07:23PM[/editline] [QUOTE=pentium;20252952]I'm quite sure we have all heard this about ten times now. Related to the news, Hurrah! the Three Mile Curse has been broken![/QUOTE] There will always be one person who will come in and blurt out how all nuclear reactors are chernobyl, and they will blow up if you look at them funny. They now have no excuse for their ignorance.
About time. The danger isn't in building advanced new reactors, it's in running the same reactors for decades past their intended operational life. I'll trust a brand new reactor with all the latest safety equipment over some Eisenhower-era relic any day.

Not saying these new ones are unreliable at all, but shit still can happen with the modern electronics.
[QUOTE=evilking1;20253267]Eisenhower-era relic running fine for decades over "Well this was simulated to work" reactor? [QUOTE=evilking1;20253267]Eisenhower-era relic running fine for decades over "Well this was simulated to work" reactor? Not saying these new ones are unreliable at all, but shit still can happen with the modern electronics.[/QUOTE] I'll repeat that. I trust current technology a lot more than something that's been in continuous use for thirty years. A Ford Model T may still work today, but that doesn't mean it isn't vastly inferior to a Taurus.
[QUOTE=evilking1;20253267]Eisenhower-era relic running fine for decades over "Well this was simulated to work" reactor? Not saying these new ones are unreliable at all, but shit still can happen with the modern electronics.[/QUOTE] There are modern reactors that have been working fine for years already in other countries
[QUOTE=laval;20253315]There are modern reactors that have been working fine for years already in other countries[/QUOTE] I know that, but just like I said in my post, things can happen as simulation doesn't always follow what will happen in real life. They are safer than the old ones, but not completely safe, nothing is.
Obama working on the energy infrastructure? Holy shit guys he's doing something!

Yay! Nuclear power! :toot:
[QUOTE=Rygar69;20253539][img]http://www.freewebs.com/nubpwner3000/Fallout-3.jpg[/im][/QUOTE] Report card. Post consisted of a huge-ass image almost completely irrelevant to the subject, and it was take from freewebs. No comment was also found in the post. F-, see me after class.
[QUOTE=ace13;20253559]Hope this gets a good reaction from the public[/QUOTE] He's going to have a falling out with the environmentalists though.
[QUOTE=Rygar69;20253539][img http://www.freehurr.com/nubpwner3000/Falldurr-3.hurrdurr[/img][/QUOTE] Oh I get it, this is a thread about nuclear stuff, so you posted a picture of Fallout 3.
[QUOTE=Mingebox;20253745]Oh I get it, this is a thread about nuclear stuff, so you posted a picture of Fallout 3.[/QUOTE] Yeah. But thanks for putting the big image to this page also unlike making the image tags not work like me. But thanks for the quick fixing of it.
There's a nuclear power plant just a few minutes down the highway from where I live in NC. The best part is that i'm getting my pilot's license at an airport VERY nearby. The cooling tower and associated steam are basically a giant windsock for everyone there. Plus it looks awesome from the air. (And from anywhere else you see it really.)
Reactions can lead to distractions.
[quote]President Obama announced $8.3 billion in loan guarantees Tuesday for two nuclear reactors to be built in Burke County, Georgia.[/quote] I may not be to savy when it comes to economics but where is that 8.3 billion loan comming from?
[QUOTE=starpluck;20251797]But how come Iran can't build Nuclear reactors; its for the same purpose.[/QUOTE] [I]"If they build nukes, we won't be able to invade them. Please Iran, don't build nukes!"[/I]
Anyway, the events of Fallout were from nuclear weapons, not power stations. I may not be american, but more nuclear power stations=less greenhouse gases, that has got to be a good thing, right?
Good. This is exactly what we need. The Democrats aren't too happy about this because they're still like "hurr nuclear power is dangerous."

I'm excited
[QUOTE=Datsun;20255377]I may not be to savy when it comes to economics but where is that 8.3 billion loan comming from?[/QUOTE] The government doesn't work like your chequing account. There are no overdraft fees for them.
but guys what about chernobel and 15,840 foot island those were nuclear powerplants what about NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS
[QUOTE=Zeke129;20255805]The government doesn't work like your chequing account. There are no overdraft fees for them.[/QUOTE] They can't make money out of thin air. Well of course they possibly can as long as they have uh, what backs our currency again? Its not gold for sure, not anymore.
[QUOTE=Datsun;20255921]They can't make money out of thin air. Well of course they possibly can as long as they have uh, what backs our currency again? Its not gold for sure, not anymore.[/QUOTE] Our currency is backed by a national stockpile of Hope in Fort Knox. [editline]04:58PM[/editline] We also make due with some spare Change.
People always bitch about these plants. It supplies clean efficient energy for every aspect your life. Without there would be no precious coffee. They bury all waste in old salt mines so it could never harm anyone. The salt prevents water getting in and out. Nuclear power is the way of the present and future.
