North Korea demands apology, reparations from Japan over colonization
If you are talking about Stalin's treatment of political enemies in the Gulags, the harsh Soviet responses to rebellions behind the Iron Curtain, the bloody fighting between Russians and Germans, the containment of East Berliners, and who knows how many people captured, tortured, and killed by the Communist regime, then yes, people know a lot about the atrocities committed by Stalin.

Obviously not everybody is going to apologize for things that happened hundreds of years past, but 70 years isn't a super long time. We're talking about most North Koreans' parents/grandparents. It's just something out of respect and a show of kindness for the Japanese government to issue a formal apology. Of course they don't have to, but a productive government might consider it.
No, he is right. You have no idea how much shit happened in colonies all across the world in the past 100 years, I don't expect Japan to apologize to NK, since even countries like Germany, the UK, Belgium, France etc haven't or very recently apologized to terrifying genocides and brutal colonization. Germany committed full on genocide to the Hereros people, rounded them up and shot them, threw them in concentration camps, basically a miniature holocaust in present-day Namibia. They apologized in 2004! Belgium still doesn't even recognize the rape of Congo, where they are responsible for 10 million deaths of innocents, as well as severe torture and brutal mutilation.
NK is simply using this as a political move, if the DPRK government was at all interested in getting an apology for its colonial repressed people, maybe they wouldn't be repressing the current generation right now!

Negatives don't exactly get over looked by some positives. You have to be blind to accept a system that has been totally ruthless throughout its regime. Infact one of the prime reasons that the Soviet Union fell was because it became more free with things like its press which exposed a lot of the Soviet Unions cynical and brutal past.
Everyone knows about the USSR under Stalin's terrible actions. You can go to any book store in America and find a few hundred thousand-page books on Gulags, Stalin, the atrocities of the USSR and all that. They're no secret. Everyone knows about them, and that made sure of during the Cold War.
I think we're all missing that this is NK's second demand like this. A few weeks ago they said the same thing to the U.S. except then I think they were looking for more money than actually existed? It's pretty clear they're trying to use the misfortune of their citizens to get the country out of the shithole it's in.

Yea, for Pete's sake NK tried to pay back a 10 million USD debt to the Czech Republic with ginseng root. Yes, ginseng root.
Yea, NK doesn't really seem like they're asking for this genuinely. It almost feels like...
Japan: Hey, we've said this before, but we're really sorry about that.
NK: Oh, by the way, you guys should totally give us like... a ton of money for that. Like... a lot.
I know that's really generalized, and probably not quite right, but that's how I see. It just feels like NK took the opportunity to make another ridiculous demand to garner support against the Japanese. One of those, "I know I've been bad, but look at the bad things they did" kind of deal.

yea more like "I know I been good beacuse Kim-long-queer can do no wrong but japan is cruel and should give us $7000K(NK wen/yen?)or we blow up SK fishs trying to take down SK ! ! long live KIM QUEER LONG !"
How dare they tyrannize and abuse the rights of NK Citizens, THATS THEIR JOB.
Damned Japs stealing NK government jobs.
As Japan has apologised to SK, doesn't that mean that NK has every right to demand an equal apology for themselves? Both the peoples of SK and NK had the same tyranny imposed on them (but under a single nation, of course) so NK should've got an apology as well.
I'm sick of all this hate against North Korea. Although I'm in no way a supporter of North Korea, people need to pull their heads out of their asses and stop listening to political bullshit constantly bashing North Korea just because they say something which the US doesn't like.
Didn't they ask the US for an appology about the Korean war and wanted more money than the entire world had a few years back?

Given that the US threw themselves into the war on their own accord, I don't think so.
"Other eyewitness reports further indicated that Ignatowski had been tortured in the cave by the Japanese for three days, during which time they also cut out his eyes, cut off his ears, smashed in his teeth, and cut off his genitalia and stuffed them into his mouth."
fuck sakes japanese soldiers were brutal

Or maybe it's the fact that Kim Jong-Il is running the country in to the dirt, killing citizens and wagging his dick in front of world leaders and trying to act like a hard-ass?
This is the same country that cuts off all power at night, with the only exceptions (besides essential services) being the massive floodlights pointed at his statues 24/7, and whose economy is so trashed that many people are lucky to be able to afford food or a place to live.
This isn't people bashing NK over some verbal fuck-up. It's hard not to think bad of a country that has insisted on running itself in to the floor, while simultaneously acting like every other country is inferior.
Oh NK, you so funny.
