I feel redeemed.
Even homosexuals? Good to hear.
This is old news...check the Compendium....
Wait, the Pope of the Catholic fucking Church literally said that one does not even need to have any faith whatsoever to get into heaven? You only need to do good things and live a good life? For all the conflicts over the centuries that have been fought over the role faith plays in what makes a good Christian, for the Pope to just come out and say you don't even need to believe at all is a pretty big thing.
:pwn: People, reeeeaaaalyyyyy, you've got to read the damn compendium.... Its amazing how much people talk about the church yet don't know anything about its dogma or doctrine.
I didn't expect to read something like this today. My day's a little better now
Kinda nice of him to say, "Regardless if you're Athiest, if you do good deeds, you'll go to heaven".
‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

Loads of christians have rejected biblical inerrancy for centuries
And? They're not supposed to. Further, if you can decide which parts to keep and which parts to throw out, why do you need the book to begin with? If you can make these decisions, then the texts is irrelevant and you're just using it as an excuse to justify your views. If you're a horrible person with horrible views, then you're just a horrible person with horrible views, it has nothing to do with the Bible. But the Bible is supposed to be taken entirely, and that's the point.

From what I understand, removing purgatory from the picture, everyone either goes to hell or heaven. So, hypothetically, we'll just say that's true. He's saying that regardless if you believe in it, you'll still go to one or the other. So how about cut the crap about the idea of it, and just do good already. I think this is a great thing.
Checkmate, Catholics. Going to annoy you forever in Heaven.
So how about cut the crap about the idea of it, and just do good already. I think this is a great thing.
Problem then is....what is good and what is bad?
This is probably the best pope we've ever had.
http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2013/05/22/pope_at_mass:_culture_of_encounter_is_the_foundation_of_peace/en1-694445 This new pope keeps getting better and better!
If religion was like this, I'd be a man of faith.
This is probably the best pope we've ever had.
And its Argentine :v:

"A philosophy of constant feminism doesn't give the woman the dignity she deserves. ... It runs the risk of becoming machismo in skirts."

But.. this is pretty spot on, actually.
Single-parent families typically do a horrible job at raising children though.
2 parents are better than one though, regardless of gender.
Problem then is....what is good and what is bad?
Well for Catholics, I'd assume whatever the pope/bible tells them is good. As for the rest, perhaps similar. Whatever their belief says is good, or a fallback would be whatever society says is good.
Everyone is forgiven? Awesome now we can start looting a pillaging, because that is totally the meaning of forgiveness.
-snip-
2 parents are better than one though, regardless of gender.
by that logic, polyamory would be legal by now then.
Well isn't that quite nice.
by that logic, polyamory would be legal by now then.
It is as long as you're not married.
I like this mentality it's following in the steps of jesus. As he was, a loving person who wanted to do good, and wanted his followers to be poor to stay true to the message because dosh corrupts. I like him.
That's cute and all, but what "being a good person" means has been varied throughout the whole history of Christianity. No one will ever reach a common ground. This is better, but there is some bullshit tinged with this. I can feel it.
I like this mentality it's following in the steps of jesus. He is best pope.
Finally someone who gets it. The whole point is that Jesus was supposed to be the ultimate symbolic sacrifice for all humanity, Jew and gentile. It was supposed to be a "You think you need to be saved? Boom. You're all saved" move on God's part. Instead people just take that "No one goes to the Father except through me" thing out of context. Jesus never even said that.
It is as long as you're not married.
I meant polyamorous marriage.
This Pope is turning out to be pretty awesome. Now if he'd just change his views on homosexuality, I'd feel a lot more comfortable saying that. But still, big strides for a Pope.
the bigger ramification here is even the Buddhists are saved [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] and they don't really worship a god at all
I'm not quite sure how that works.
I think he means that as long as you aren't shitty and you try to be a good person, you'll be redeemed no matter what, even if you don't believe in God during your stay on Earth. In other words, you're not going to hell if you follow another religion or aren't religious at all as long as you're a decent human being. Which makes sense, really. In short, you won't go to Hell unless you truly deserve it. So he claims. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
I suggest looking more into him before liking him just yet but he's WAY WAY WAY better than the last pope
Isn't that pretty much automatic qualification for being likable ? :v:
And? They're not supposed to. Further, if you can decide which parts to keep and which parts to throw out, why do you need the book to begin with? If you're a horrible person with horrible views, then you're just a horrible person with horrible views, it has nothing to do with the Bible. But the Bible is supposed to be taken entirely, and that's the point.
Because it was written by people, and even if you believe that the Bible is akin to a historical document in being wholly based off fact that still doesn't mean it's 100% accurate or literal. The majority of religious people aren't mindless retards like you seem to think And what the hell do you mean "They're not supposed to"?
Ephesians 2: 8-9 does not agree.
Is that from the old or new testament though ? I'm fairly certain Catholics only follow the first testament. Also yeah the bible has been written by several people and I'm fairly certain not all of them agreed on everything, hence the parts that contradict each other. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
Kinda nice of him to say, "Regardless if you're Athiest, if you do good deeds, you'll go to heaven".
Now to hope heaven exists so at the very least I'm not going to be bored shitless after death. No seriously the afterlife must be real fucking shit if all you do is rot and decay.
