Is that from the old or new testament though ? I'm fairly certain Catholics only follow the first testament.
uhh i'm not sure you understand how death works from a non-religious standpoint.

the judeo-christian afterlife is supposed to be fun
polygamy
if you mean the literal definition: yes
if you mean the literal definition: yes
I mean that "polyamorous marriage" sounds awkward and there's already a word for it that literally everybody uses, which is polygamy
So me being a Bisexual furry atheist is forgiven? I don't even forgive myself.
Next thing happening will be priests going to prison over pedophilia...
Basically what the Pope is saying is that as long as you do good, your personal choices shouldn't affect what God thinks of you, so you can fuck whoever you want dresses up as whatever you want, as long as nobody is being hurt it's all good in God's eyes. Or something like that, seeing as the Pope is against homosexuality, etc and I don't believe in God anyway (but apparently I'm forgiven, so it's good, I no longer have to live in fear :v:)
he's still anti-gay. fuck him
popes will always be anti-gay and anti-woman because they don't stand to gain anything by being inclusive
John 14-6
he's still anti-gay. fuck him
I don't think he's as vehemently "anti-gay" as you think. He doesn't personally condone a homosexual orientation. In that case he has stated his own opinion, how he feels about the subject. But he goes on to point out that as far as God is concerned, as long as you're trying to be a good person in the end, it won't matter what sins you've committed, and you'll still be saved. Gays, atheists, transgenders, white people, black people, purple people, everybody. He's saying that the only people going to hell are people that really deserve it. And yes, there is a distinction between the Pope's personal views and what the Pope holds God's views to be, since in Catholicism the Pope is God's representative on Earth. You could almost view it as a literal testament to the fact that he's not perfect - but God is. And the current pope knows it.
I'm a Buddhist, by the way.
We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”
Aw, how nice.
So Catholicism is officially not Christianity anymore?
Well for Catholics, I'd assume whatever the pope/bible tells them is good. As for the rest, perhaps similar. Whatever their belief says is good, or a fallback would be whatever society says is good.
Oh, that one is complicated to explain. Lets just say Catholics dont believe in an onthological "evil", but rather, there is a scale ranging from "greater good to minor good" and "evil"/disorder appears when somebody places the minor good over the greater good.
Why is the pope trying to save my atheist ass with creepy blood magic? :tinfoil:
I never thought I'd see the day when "Tolerance" and "Catholicism" could be used appropriately in the same sentence.
I mean that "polyamorous marriage" sounds awkward and there's already a word for it that literally everybody uses, which is polygamy
most people use "polygamy" to refer to a man with multiple wives.
the wives aren't married to each other, they're married to the man.
people treat the word as synonymous as a harem and those aren't really held in high regard.
the reason i say "polyamorous marriage" rather than "polygamy" is because of how the word is used nowadays.
I never thought I'd see the day when "Tolerance" and "Catholicism" could be used appropriately in the same sentence.
"There isn't a lot of tolerance in Catholicism"

oops I see what you are saying

Pope Francis is definitely one of the most progressive popes in the history of the Catholic Church. Hopefully the trend continues. What the pope has to say still holds a lot of weight with a huge number of people.

You're a dense one, aren't you?
The amount of anti-theism in this thread is really astonishing.
The grandmaster of all Catholics just officially said that his religion doesn't hate everyone, and yet people are still finding shit to throw at this guy.

Guy disagrees on gay marriage, instantly a homophobe.
I know gays who disagree on gay marriage, what the fuck is your point
Guy disagrees on gay marriage, instantly a homophobe.

my point is he's a homophobe because he denies homosexuals their rights
my point is he's a homophobe because he denies homosexuals their rights
Last time I checked he doesn't actually have the power to forbid gay marriage in the entire world, does he ?
France has a heavily catholic based culture, and guess what ? Gay marriage has been legal for a month now.
The thing is you are just spitting on a guy because he disagrees with you on one thing, disregarding all of the good things he's done so far. You are more of a bigot than you wish this guy will ever be.
Last time I checked he doesn't actually have the power to forbid gay marriage in the entire world, does he ?

no but his voice matters to a large set of people and his voice is homophobic
That's cute and all, but what "being a good person" means has been varied throughout the whole history of Christianity. No one will ever reach a common ground.
This is better, but there is some bullshit tinged with this. I can feel it.
Not all Christians are evil, you could just go with the fact that this guy just acknowledged the fact that is beliefs aren't the only valid ones in the world.
no but his voice matters to a large set of people and his voice is homophobic
His voice isn't homophobic, stop making up hateful nonsense. He disagrees on gay marriage and adoption, which is something a lot of people do. Are they all the pinnacle of homophobia and evil ? No they aren't. Stop calling everyone who isn't spot on with your standards of beliefs a homophobe/bigot/whatever.
You seem the kind of guy who really likes rainbows but you have to understand there is such a thing known as grey areas when it comes to opinions and behaviors.
