Lets officially call them Dickwads. To piss them off. Like imagine every credible news agency calling them Dickwads. I will even get my word replacer script running with this: To get this: Now that would be some media coverage
Kinda amazed there's no "Sand People" in that script. Could you link that script by the way? Also fix your fucking typo.
Let's all pretend for a second that the Westboro Baptist Church family was referred to as "the christian state".
Well they don't exactly govern any territory... Now if the family had an army and was ruling huge chunks of central africa with 100% old-testament law.
Congrats on illustrating exactly why the BBC wants to change the terminology it's using. Because calling it "Islamic State" is feeding into the biases and prejudgements of people like you
Except he's right though, there is at least some degree of understanding among the world's population of Muslims. There isn't tacit support, but there's certainly not widespread animosity which is kind of a problem because it's another factor in how they manage to recruit. (it is not a reason though, the people who join are either at risk of being radicalized or already are)
Let's all pretend for a second that the Westboro Baptist Church family was referred to as "the christian state". Do you think any christians would get offended? Most of you know not all christians all as awful as the Westboro nutters but only a few of you seem to see the problem with lumping THE ENTIRE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY(which is huge) into this one little narrowminded fringe group. Also yeah, calling them a "state" only gives them validation that they're gaining recognition. Kind of a bad move on the media's part. But I suppose it's their "scariest" sounding name so far. Gotta rake in those paranoia dollars.
Not really the same thing, the attitude required for the level of enthusiasm that would be needed to support ISIS directly isn't widespread among Christians anymore. You'd have to go back 30+ years and look at the US then, and yeah, I think some extremist group that carved out some territory that had religious significance and calling it "the Christian State" would draw people in. Comparing Christianity to Islam and Christians to Muslims really isn't easy to do, they're two different faiths and have different cultures. Blasphemy in the Arab Muslim world is a big fucking deal, while American Christians (any type, oh and that's another major difference between Christianity and Islam) won't out-right kill you for it... anymore.
