Yes, image is very important.
Even though it doesn't seem like it peoples opinions change on you if you wear the same shit every week again and again. At least updating all the time keeps you fresh, which is pretty important.
are you Patrick Bateman by any chance?
I like how you guys just jump to conclusions saying dental is shallow because he spends money on clothes. How does that work? He wasn't throwing it anybodies faces and then you guys just started attacking him.
Yeah not really. The first thing Dental did was rating a guy dumb because he said he bought less than 900£ worth of clothes in three years. Then he replied on how he was spending 2000$ a year, implying people are dumb if they don't spend a lot on clothes.
I'd rather have Leon's RE4 jacket. RE6 better not give Leon a cool jacket for one chapter and then take it away for the rest of the game.

what he essentially said to awesomecaek was condescending as fuck or at least came across that way

it wasn't because of that, it was because how he said he judges others that don't.
IMO that jacket doesn't even look good.
overpriced gimmicky bullshit
No it's because not wearing the same clothes every other day would require me to have a hell of a lot more money than I have to spend on something as frivolous as clothes
Value village has like 3 dollar tshirts and 5 dollar pants. Thrift shops are where it's at
Wow you all really took what I said wrong, I was just surprised because $1000 every six months or so isn't that much money to be spent on clothes.
Where I live nearly everyone I know, even my friends living paycheck to paycheck spend at least $500 every six months.
I honestly don't know why it makes you shallow and a douche for liking to keep your image up. I'd rather look good then wear ratty and old clothing, and most people in the world like it that way.
I wasn't fucking criticizing the guy for not spending a good amount on his image, just saying it's not what I'm used to seeing. People I talk to and spend time with like to go out a lot, and when you go out a lot you gotta keep fresh.
I'm pretty sure you're just connecting me saying I spend "so much" money on it, to people who probably made fun of you for not updating in school :v:, not really though.
I also live downtown Toronto, so being fresh is key to living up to anything here.
That's just you. If you have any interest in fashion you will see that well dressed people are rare (depending on where you live). I guess ignorance is bliss in this case.
Again thats just you. It takes a lot more to impress other people who know and care about fashion.
$1000 half-annually isn't a lot. It's like $150 a month. Not a lot if you try to dress up in anything but the cheapest stuff. Try hard has nothing to do with the money you spend but with the clothes you wear.
$150 a month on clothes is insane...

The alternative to spending $2000 a year on clothes is wearing ratty/old clothing? You can look incredible and spend a fraction of that.

Yes, but $900 for around 3 years is what I was shocked at. You can't get very much for that and look good, without people calling out your fake shit.

You totally can, it's called thrift shops. You can fill a closet with $90
[editline]10th September 2012[/editline]
But if you wanna spend top dollar on some swanky clothes that's fine, I'm not gunna tell you otherwise.
You totally can, it's called thrift shops. You can fill a closet with $90
Yes but all that stuff is either really old, fake, dirty or extremely cheap.
I guess you just don't get the principle behind not sliding by with the bare minimum.
How does that make me a douche in any way? I think being cheap by choice is worse then trying too hard to be quite honest.

yeah umm
higher price doesn't instantly mean it's better you know... just like how the 900 pound jacket in the op is likely very mediocre, especially for it's price. just look at name brands like Hollister or american eagle or DC, douchey overprice clothing just because it has a name on it.

Not true at all, I've found quality clothing at Value Village. It's exactly like any other store but without the crazy prices. I mean sure they're all hammy downs but that doesn't even matter. And it's not sliding by with the bare minimum, it's buying decent clothes at extremely cheap prices so I can focus my money else wear.
Buying old and handed down clothes is the exact opposite to the point of being fresh and new
But whatever, it's fine if you like to buy cheap and handed down clothes, it's just people can tell when it comes down to it. People check, and they remember.
Not that your clothes is what defines you, you all think that's how I see things. Just girls like a guy who can keep updating for her, and not wearing old shit.
Even though you probably think you know better and think girls only care about emotions and shit, but they couldn't care less if you're out looking
As long as somebody isn't wearing a potato sack or a HAZMAT, I barely register what they are wearing, at all, so you can't really expect me to change my own visage at any considerable rate.
Or anything Gucci, it's not even like it's made to last longer. They just slap the "GUCCI" name on a t-shirt and then they have a $150 dollar shirt. That's an extreme example but still.
Haha. Get a load of this guy. "fake" clothing. Oh no, shirt X doesn't have a brands name but looks like shirt Y! Whatever is the world coming too.
Man you don't have to spent £30 on a piece of clothing to stay "fresh". Cheaper alternatives are hardly going to just fall apart or look bad just for being cheaper. Hell, from my experience brand clothes last about the same time, and feel pretty much the same as cheaper clothes.
Plus, twice yearly updates of your wardrobe is fucking wasteful.

You don't need to be "fresh and new" to look nice, I dress like Kurt Cobain and I still don't look too bad if I say so myself.

How could they tell? And are you talking about employers because they're the only people I know of that really care for appearance.

Those people are shallow if that affects their view of you (as long as you aren't in literal rags) and can go step on a Lego brick for all I care.
Whatever, you kids don't like buying new clothes and probably don't go out a lot, that's just you. This is facepunch, it's expected from a lot of you. But some people like to keep updated and need to, to look good in their position and for people to think a tad higher of them. It does not make them "shallow", it does not make them a douche either. This is not high school, people spend money on things other then video games and computers.
Last time, if you want to get women, you need to update. That's one of the main reasons I like to work on my appearance a lot. And you know what? It helps quite a lot. I don't think dressing up like Kurt Cobain will help any if you're trying to get some when you're out.

Still, there's a difference between not being in fashion and looking like your parents still buy your clothes, I dunno how much you make, but $150 a month on clothes is excessive vanity on most people's budgets.

Let's do a quick fact check here.
- I'm at uni
- I buy cheap clothes
- I have a wide variety of friends (including slightly "fashionable" ones)
- Not a single fuck is given about what we all wear as long as it isn't falling apart or unwashed
Well, I think that kinda ruins your anecdote. Hot anecdote on anecdote action.
Also calling people "kids" isn't going to help you look better than us. It just makes you an insufferable dickhead. Most SH posters are fairly old and knowledgable.

That's not stylish at all what the fuck are you talking about?
You honestly think that he's pulling that off?
Also, I say you kids because most of your mentalities are ones that a lot of kids I knew in high school had, also because most of you are in high school, and don't have much if any money of your own to spend. No one I know now gives two shits about how much is spent on clothes. It's pretty much key where I live.
