Well your reasoning is pretty flacid.
What's the fuss? L4D3 already confrimed.
"Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam."
What's this supposed to mean?

I think that's just a fancy way of saying "If it's broken, you tell us what the issue is and then we'll fix it."
Our rooms will become saunas.
Valve has used all of their money to invest in energy sources. They've successfully created cold fusion.
They're now using that source of energy to fund their own country in a small island in the caribbean
Sorry next time I won't voice my opinion on a game series that I think is shit.
You think its shit and no more games should be made because you think theres not that much replay value.
Are you reading what you're posting, dude.

Well, there's not much replay value because the games released with fuck all content for the pricepoint.

Well yeah but still.
Seems a bit harsh for "not much replay value"

Thanks for sharing!
Another useless thing for steam... When is valve going to go back to making GAMES? And im not just talking about hl3 here im talking about any games. Im getting tired of valve just making stuff like this for steam.
You realize that if it weren't for Valve dicking around with Steam and paving the way for digital distribution on the PC for the past decade, playing games would suck ass by now?

Hey guys I dont care do you know I dont care guys I dont care NOTICE THAT I DONT CARE GUYS GUYYSSSSSS I DONT CARE
I dont think the "steambox" is a full game console. That would be a bit impractical and Valve has announced several times how they prefer PC. I'd say its a piece of hardware that connects your PC to your television with slots for controllers for controller enabled steam games.
Could one of the announcements be the music integration that was found a while ago?

I thought the steam box would pretty much just be a linux PC with steam in a fancy case.

If Valve did release anything that you'd call a steambox it would just be a PC in a neat form-factor case running Linux.

As someone who doesnt have the money/resources to just up and build or buy a good PC i'd be totally fine with this as long as the price wasnt super dogshit.
I'm hoping if they do release a "steambox" , that it runs the majority of games on Steam
clearly its a virtual living room that you can design and show your friends :D

That wouldnt really make sense unless Valve can make directX and various gfx card drivers work perfectly on linux. And if they did that it would pretty much be a closed system like the other game consoles and the hardware would eventually get outdated.
If its just a thing that connects your PC to tv, you have all advantages of PC such as upgrading the components and playing all the games of PC in your living room, possibly even multiplayer with your friends with multiple controllers.

Have you been paying attention to anything Valve have said or done over the past few months? DirectX is irrelevant, nVidia GPUs work as flawlessly as a GPU can (and AMD are slowly getting their shit together).
Valve have also already mentioned miracast as a solution for thin-client streaming from a beefier PC in a different room, much like nVidia Shield but with a television instead.
I always thought many games were made using the direct3d lib (in directx) and it doesnt work on linux so usually the guys making multiplatform games use opengl. But apparently i was wrong if the fact that d3d was used to make the game is irrelevant when trying to run it on linux

So... wireless HDMI/usb? That already exists.

DirectX is irrelevant because you have to ditch it to run on MacOS and Linux, and SDL 2 exists which can do the same things for you but without tying your program to Microsoft.

Most of the games on steam use directX. If Valve made a linux gaming console how would they make those games work? Thats what i was trying to say. They would need to make dx stuff work with linux which is obviously not possible.

They would be changed to used OpenGL (and if the developers had any sense, SDL).
