O+O is CLEARLY SteamOS 2.
They wasted no time.
Next is going to be a controller with interchangeable parts I reckon.
I hope it's the box and controller, I'd be sad if it was just a controller.
They announced a long time ago that they didn't want to take part in developing hardware.
Wrong. They fired the augmented reality people because, "duh" they working
on boring augmented reality where Valve couldn't benefit from. Gabe stated himself long time ago,
that they step into hardware businsess (and also hired people) to create more innovations in the hardware business.
They also registered a patent on a new controller with biometric feedback.
So what will Steambox be now that is pretty much confirmed. A streaming box, a media PC, a compact gaming PC(Alienware x51/Digital Storm) or a Gaming computer?
Luckily for all of us, Valve is a privately held corporation who don't have to answer to the stock market.
Hey, at least half life 3 would have been realeased years ago
and it wouldn't be too bad
I think this Steam OS could have huge potential. As next gen consoles get released and gain attention any hardware manufacturers can make their own little "Steam Boxes" since Steam OS will be free for hardware manufacturers and consumers. Then later down the next gen cycle when the consoles get outdated newer Steam Boxes can continue to get released that are faster ect. So maybe there won't be one "Steam Box" but many different "Steam Boxes" like different pc's are today.
I think Valve is cooking up something good for us. Now it may not be HL3 as many of us are hoping, but with something like Steambox and SteamOS I can see it paving the pay for a new generation of Valve and their products. I am interested to see what the upcoming year has for us.

You barely know went on or you refuse to believe valve isn't a perfect company. The AR was a project along side VR that didn't need mechanical engineers to make headway and be able to develop something with a skeleton crew. The firing was made by someone being immature which is a reflection of a flat structure of such size. Then the VR team wasn't fired which if you know a thing or two about AR and VR, a percent of people get sick in VR not in AR because AR has your perspective connected to the real world so having AR would reach an audience that can't do VR or some 3D. Back to valve hardware which still has people, if you want hardware prototypes that arn't super glued, then tell Gabe he needs to ask Ben Krasnow what people are needed to be hired for such innovations for and override the other people who say no to nearly a thousand qualified applicants who can work in a flat structure. I know I'm talking to a wall with you and I'm sorry I can't get through to you. But there are plenty of rational people who you would misinform on what you wrote.
If where going to hear anything about HL3 THIS time it will be most likely be the 3rd box

Good thing this is about a platform for games and things related to said platform, not games.

Even though in my opinion valve can't take on android or IOS in the phone section (maybe some on windows phone). But this seems really a stab at apple tv, google tv, and partly with x box 1.
If they going down that path then having deals with tv manufacturers for steamOS as the OS for smart tvs would be happening. However smart tvs arn't powerful and Mr. Newell has expressed early this year he has his troubles on cloud processing.
It's probably going to be on nividia's sheilds eventually.
I admit it would be geeky of me to get a gamestick or Ouyaa with steamOS.
What I think seems pointless is not having public for download what they already have right now, it's not corporate redhat or some private linux distro. The linux community (at least the parts I know) are well antiquated with testing with pre-alpha code due to the nature of open source. I could guess it's because of nature of valve to keep something hidden until 'it's ready', but it's not a clear fact. There are exceptions to holding parts of an OS back, but not as a whole. Maybe it's apart of PR strategy and it'll be released this or next month. I will say unbuntu phone OS and ubuntu for android arn't public yet, but I can't say they share the same reasons for holding it back.

I don't think anything you said there will happen. Why would you have SteamOS on an Ouya when an Ouya will never run anything on Steam?
