And another movie is ruined. Thanks Peter Jackson
The 3D hating bandwagon should probably calm down about this one, it'll be fine.

That's what they're going to use to film. Ignore the ginormously larger ones, those will be coming in the following years from your favorite batshit crazy camera company
And since there is no theatre where I live I get to see it in the light blue box there
lmao what
You can't be invested in a story when you notice something which brings you out of it. I meant 3D effects, obviously.
You have to watch the movie with the glasses on
No shit. It still hurts my eyes. Not to mention that the glasses are uncomfortable as fuck all.
No shit. It still hurts my eyes. Not to mention that the glasses are uncomfortable as fuck all.
Maybe if your head is shaped like a potato. I wear glasses so I have to have both on at the same time and I've never had any issues with comfort.
3D is just going to ruin the atmosphere.
Hobbits are all well and good but I'd like to see him do more (for want of a better word) 'odd' films like Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles.

oh god THE RING IS COMING RIGHT AT ME [editline]19th February 2011[/editline] just i dont want any of those moments in scenes that ONLY exist because of the 3d, for example WOOAH THE GUYS ARM IS REACHING TO THE CAMERA
I reckon Jackson will be able to pull off the whole 3D hate with this one, will probably take 3D to his advantage and make a more amazing battle scene than Return of the King at Minus Tirith, I don't know.
After having seen a 3D movie (Tron Legacy) I still think it's mostly a gimmick, there were a few scenes which looked cool in 3D but most of the movie would have been better watched in 2D as it just started to get distracting when in quite a few scenes they just had to cram in as much 3D effects which weren't needed.

This will be with top notch cameras and shot in all 3d.
i approve
As long as it has good writing, and acting, I couldn't give a shit how it's filmed, even if I tried.
And you really think that stands up at all to the technology today? Good luck getting a projector then to spin a reel of film at 144 frames per second, as well as the time needed to duplicate and repeat the frames. Just because you can make polarized glasses doesn't mean you can make a 3d movie. It hasn't been possible until now. The technology works and you're all winy.
Please show me a modern 3D movie at 144FPS.
3D movies give me headaches, I can't stand wearing those glasses because I always feel as if my eyes are throbbing. But I only watched movies that were converted to 3D, and only 2 at that so I am not an expert. I still feel 3D is a gimmick and a hook. And I honestly don't understand the deal, partial 3D doesn't make the movie anymore immersive, you don't get pulled into the movie just because a few javelins were flying towards you and you felt like you had to duck, you get immersed because there is a compelling story and storytelling, relatable characters, artistic shots and/or powerful suspension of disbelief, you are not going to simply be transported to Middle Earth because the hairs on the hobbits feet jumped from the screen. I simply feel the uncanny valley (although it is not exactly the uncanny valley) creeping up on me. Trying to imitate real life without being anywhere near it. But this is all me, and after the two 3D movies I watched I decided not to watch anymore 3D movies, again a personal decision.
I used to be totally anti-3D without exception. I still think of the headache-inducing and goofy as fuck red and blue cardboard glasses. But I think Tron:Legacy and Shrek 4 made me have faith, because we don't normally see the Spy Kids 3D-style OMG IT POOPS OUT AT MEH effects. The fact is, they ruin the immersion and the film. On the other hand, I LOVE the depth-perception effects. Sometimes they just add that extra bit of wow-factor to a scene. Not sure how it'll be used in The Hobbit though.
avatar in 3d was fucking beautiful this better be like that except with less pocahontas(cant be assed so to spell right)
It might've been just the glasses our cinema has but when I watched Avatar I didn't see any 3d at all. It looked just like a normal 2d movie and the only difference was that my eyes hurt like a bitch if I tried to watch it with the glasses off. :colbert:
I hope he films it like The Fellowship of the Ring, the close ground shots on those sets pretty much made that movie great, unlike The Return of the King with those damned aerial CGI shots.
Contag not caring at all, entirely in 3D! (actually 4D but whatever)
Most 3D is just to jack up ticket prices, but a few movies like the new TRON prove 3D can be done right.
Unnecessary closeups, unnecessary slow motion battles, unnecessary explosions, etc. It just seems when a film is 3D, it's all about making sure everyone knows it's 3D, instead of just focusing on the proper camera angles and story telling.
What are you talking about? You're saying that the second someone makes a 3D movie it instantly becomes 'Unnecessary closeups, unnecessary slow motion battles, unnecessary explosions'? Let me set this straight for you: 3D is a way of filming with 2 cameras instead of the traditional one. It is used to enhance depth perception when you're watching a movie so you actually feel like you're really there instead of it just being a picture on a canvass. 3D has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with explosions, slow-mo, or close ups. 3D is all about depth perception, if anything it'd be about long distance landscapes where that depth perception actually comes in play. Such is not the case with a close up of someone's face.
Most people are mistaking 3D for "AW SHIT, STUFF FLYING AT ME!". I doubt this is what Jackson will do. As far as I know, he's a friend of Cameron, so I assume he'll use the same type of 3D that was used on Avatar(which I never got to experience, but I heard it was fantastic).
Yeah, as Carne said, I think what most people think of 3D is those rides at disneyland where it's like OH SHIT A BEE IS FLYING AT ME OH FUCK OH FUCK LOOK AT THAT STINGER. That's the shitty, gimmicky type 3D, and it's only used in kids movies and amusement parks. The 3D that's used in real movies is only used to improve depth perception, and make you feel like you're actually there.

Sadly I'm in the small minority that the 3D effect doesn't work on so I'll be watching this in 2D.
The only people who whine about 3d usually are bandwagoning, stop complaining just don't watch it in 3d you babies.
Smeagol in 3-D? Fuck yea
