I agree. Back on topic, this is a terrible idea as shown by my chemistry post.

I thought that post was just poor satire but you were actually being serious

To be honest, that was just to emphasise how stupid an idea it is and bring it into the context of a lesson.

Sorry, but if all they're doing is using names how is it a bad thing that children will be more accustomed to the idea of gay couples?
i had a feeling something like this would happen someday
gays are going to be the new blacks
To be honest, that was just to emphasise how stupid an idea it is and bring it into the context of a lesson.
A few pages back I showed an example of how it can be tastefully introduced into the context of a lesson but you probably didn't read it
Sorry, but if all they're doing is using names how is it a bad thing that children will be more accustomed to the idea of gay couples?
Children are more able to be influenced than older people. If you start putting "Bill and his husband Ben did X or Y, calculate Z", then you're more likely to get kids doing homosexual acts despite having no homosexual attraction. It could get a bit messy.

I read the first page, no more. Might have a scim for that.

My example was instead of math problems involving "Ben and Susie's wedding" they could involve "Ben and John's wedding".
Adam and Steve!!
My example was instead of math problems involving "Ben and Susie's wedding" they could involve "Ben and John's wedding".
That sounds pretty irrelevant
My example was instead of math problems involving "Ben and Susie's wedding" they could involve "Ben and John's wedding".
While I agree that that's perfectly subtle and could be acceptable, you then get kids assuming that everyone is gay. I personally think they shouldn't be using examples like that (Either straight or gay), but I guess that's just me.
"What should we name that animal Steve??"
"Oh! Oh! I know!! Cockrel!! Oh, Adam, I am so ambiguously camp!"

They aren't saying "Bill and Ben had a fuck in a teepee, do you approve?" if you really believe kids will become gay by reading, for example the summary of a hypothetical experiment involving again, Bill and Ben, then you're pretty naive, think of all the kids who played GTA when they were about 7, did they wind up being mass-murderers like the papers said they would?

Look at the article on the kids who got told WW3 was happening.

But when you put only heterosexual pairing in the test papers, you get kids assuming everyone's straight, which is why sexual discrimination exists in the first place.

what
A kid does thousands of word problems throughout their career as a student, they won't all use the same characters
But when you put only heterosexual pairing in the test papers, you get kids assuming everyone's straight, which is why sexual discrimination exists in the first place.
That's why I said they shouldn't put straight people in either. People should discover their own sexuality.
Look at the article on the kids who got told WW3 was happening.
I'm inclined to say that's an entirely different scenario.
But when you put only heterosexual pairing in the test papers, you get kids assuming everyone's straight, which is why sexual discrimination exists in the first place.
It doesn't necessarily cause discrimination but it reinforces any preset belief that homosexuality is somehow unacceptable. Basically it'll just bolster existing prejudice.

If math word problems are how people discover their sexuality there shouldn't be any gays at all since there aren't gay characters
That's why I said they shouldn't put straight people in either. People should discover their own sexuality.
You have to put someone in, kids understand problems in they can visualise them as something real.
I still think this whole thing is bullshit, as they never actually put couples into the examples used in teaching; it's usually just billy, terry and max, or something like that. Was when I was in school, anyway.
white history month
Did they actually not put couples in, or do you just not remember the couples because they were all generic straight ones?
Did they actually not put couples in, or do you just not remember the couples because they were all generic straight ones?
Nope, they were just kids with gender-ambiguous names.

so if you dont use straight people or gay people then who do we use??
also I think if there were gay character in my work I would get kind of distracted tbh!! :p its kind of weird to have them in textbooks.... but then again black characters are in questions now and people think nothing of it anymore... unless they're playing tennis, because how many black people even play tennis! and now were all used to it achmed from london can play happily with his rockets to help us all learn about trijectories!
because how many black people even play tennis!
One of the best female tennis players is black.
and now were all used to it achmed from london can play happily with his rockets to help us all learn about trijectories!
And that kind of thing is just insensitive.

Sort of hilarious too though.

Well on the first one I forgot what I was talking about... the question I saw was a girl who had a black body with a white head or something so I dont know why I even brought that up!!
and for the second one that was an actual question in my revision once when I was doing physics :p maybe not achmed but it was a terrorist sounding name if you know what I mean!
