Ah, so much drama over a fake article. Never change, Facepunch, never change.
Well, it's less about the article and more about idiots who think their opinion is fact.
i like it here, you dont like it, go on ur forum, why shit on facepunch
Rage much?
Rage much?
no
Ah, so much drama over a fake article. Never change, Facepunch, never change.
fickle response to a fickle article is to be expected if not deserved although rising above it or discrediting each point rationally is probably a better thing to do
what is going on here
GAMESRADAR NOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOW I CANNOT VISIT YOU ANY MORE. /caps
because honestly those are very weak points to dislike a game for 1. You can't dislike a game because a character is overrated. Overrated =/= bad, and general public opinion doesn't effect the character or game quality in any way. it's like hating something purely because other people like it. 2. gordon freeman is a pair of glasses and a crowbar (and an HEV suit) with a backstory. the rest is you. the reason he has no character is because you, the player, are gordon, hence why all his best aspects are driven home by the community. 3. the series hasn't even finished yet, how can you be barking for answers? 4. the end of a crowbar is very sharp, and the crowbar itself is quite heavy. a swing to the head will incapacitate if not kill anybody. a few swings to the body would take anyone down. 5. vale really has only taken their time with the half-life franchise (see: l4d2). and i'm glad they did, they really put a lot more love into it. as a creator of entertainment, i feel we don't have the right to be upset that they take however long they take to create something they have no obligation to create in the first place, doing so to entertain people. hating a company for taking a while to make something that isn't essential to our survival and serves as entertainment is irrational. i'm not angry. it's just that his arguments have no merit whatsoever. hell, if he wrote something like this about halo, i game i really dislike, i'd hate the article too. and probably bring up my own, actually valid points.
While Bioshock has impressive visuals, it's a mediocre game compared to his ancestor, System Shock. In fact, it's a cheap (dumbed down) rehash of System Shock. Fontaine is a also a joke compared to Shodan - he's a weak character, antagonist.
I'm well aware of SS2, I haven't played it, but I know about it, and I really don't care a whole lot about degrading a game I've played in favor of one I haven't. I won't compare them, much like I won't compare Half Life and Half Life 2, even if Bioshock is more of a spiritual successor. I may play it, I may not. I really prefer not to do to much "looking back" at previous gen titles and comparing them to current stuff. It's like how some people get all mad about TeamFortress 2 when compared to TFC. I actually OWN TFC as part of the Half Life Anthology, but I don't want to get into degrading a game I enjoy merely because they removed my favorite grenades to spam. I just think sometimes it's best to keep with the present.
Also the reason that the crowbars does so much damage is that you're consistently hitting them in the head. Two bullets to the head, Boom. Dead. Two swings to the head, Boom. Dead. A magazine of pistol bullets to the body, Boom. Dead. Eighteen crowbar swipes to the body, Dead. [editline]09:00PM[/editline] Yep, I still remember the number of bullets in the HL2 pistol Mag.
Yep, I still remember the number of bullets in the HL2 pistol Mag.
Speaking of which, you're able to hold 168 bullets for that thing at a time. You could beat the entire game with just the pistol and Gravity Gun and never run out of ammo. That's got to be the highest carried ammo amount for a pistol I've ever seen in a video game.
since i dont like valve anymore ill just go ahead and support this pointless and hastily written article
In this thread: blatant Valve fanboyism [editline]11:14AM[/editline] even though I disagree with this article
:munch: Evil_Toaster is hilarious.
:munch: Evil_Toaster is hilarious.
i've never clicked the disagree button with such malevolence
All people in this thread:
wow Evil_Toaster. you sound like my friend who is one of the PS3 Fan Fags who cares only about Graphics. only you care that the game is too simple. thats what makes it great! its simple to play and mod. thats where you get L4D and Gmod and TF2. without HL the Gaming Industry would be shitty Modern Warfare nock offs.
whats up with all the people on that site that hate half life? are they halo fags that don't understand "depth"?
CoD4Kamikazi - 1 day 15 hours ago I rented the Orange Box and I regretted playing through Half Life 2's sorry campaign. It wasn't anything good at all, just 12 hours of frustration and so-called "puzzles".

And the new episodes were just map-packs. I hope EP3 at least tries to change the gameplay mechanics in some way. If compared to games like Deus Ex, HL2 doesn't really come close when it comes to the storyline. Alternative ways to go? No. Alternative playstyles? No. Replayability? 0.
I guess hating Half-Life 2 is the new trend.
Well I played HL2 first, thought it wasn't too great, but since everyfuckingbody on the internet says it's great and even explains why, I try playing it again, but still there's nothing. And I still can never figure out why people like Half Life games. It's almost like a bandwagon but they actually believe it, if that makes any sense. Then I played Episode one, was super crap, didn't finish. Episode 2 was my favorite. It started off like shit. Boring ass-looking antlion caves for the first level? It's as if they expect that I play all the half life games in one sitting. But then things got okay, with the turrets and the driving and the silo place and whatnot. Still not worthy of a 9/10, probably worth a 6 or 7. Then I got Half Life 1 when it was on sale for 98 cents. I mainly wanted it for mods and Gmod parts, textures etc. But I thought I should try the game since everyfuckingbody says it's great. And it was probably one of the shittiest games I've ever played. Like even Bad Company 2 is better than this. There's just nothing but shooting things and running in either easy to follow levels or giant mazes. It's so confusing and it's bullshit.
Of course it sucks now, IT IS SO OLD DUH IT WILL SUCK! [editline]07:17AM[/editline] I meant compared to newer games.
Alyx is over-rated....so much...
This article is so stupid. No game is perfect, just because it isn't doesn't mean you should hate it.
1. So because a lot of people think that Alyx is great Half Life is made worse? 5. Because it had a loooong development time the game is worse?
I don't see whats so great about HL2 really, I mean it's just your everyday regular shooter with an extraordinary storyline and a bunch of unnecessary hype. I'm not saying that the game is bad, but it's definitely not the best game ever imho.
As it's been said a million times already, yes, it's nothing special now, but back when it came out, there was no other game that looked and behaved so well.
