His opinions are just plain dumb though :/
He's still entitled to them.
He's still entitled to them.
Yeah, but that doesn't mean we can't get angry when people make up dumb reasons to hate a game.
Btw, we're entitled to our "hate" opinion too.
If Half Life is the shittiest game you've ever played, you either haven't played any other games, or you're an idiot. You can argue that it's a bad game, but shittiest game you've ever played, come on.
[editline]11:28PM[/editline]
Not really, HL2 has very little good mods.
I've played many other games. Many of them being better than HL2.
And while it's an EP1/orange box mod, Research and Development was probably better than any game valve will ever make.
First off, the game doesn't suck. If you strip away the characterization, the plot, the setting, and the diverse weaponry, then yes, it's a bone dry FPS. Of course, you'll only see that if you strip away the characterization, the plot, the setting, and the diverse weaponry, which is my point.
This to me is no different than preferring graphics over gameplay. If the 'game' is just a bone dry FPS, then the game is horrible. Adding story, characters and pretty backgrounds does not make bad games fun.
Stop playing games.
No. seriously.
All you do at them is move a funny little stick or a mouse-shaped thing and push buttons. :downs:
Maybe in bad games you do. You should try playing BlazBlue.
Yeah, but that doesn't mean we can't get angry when people make up dumb reasons to hate a game.

No you're not.
Be quiet now.
No you're not.

Why not :saddowns:
Why not :saddowns:
I don't know.
Probably because I'm bored and I couldn't come up with anything else to say.
All those points are really fucking stupid, it's nitpicking at it's best.
I don't give a shit if it's his opinion, he must have no taste in games.
I've played many other games. Many of them being better than HL2.

Seems like some games are a swing or a miss with you, one little thing wrong with them and you'll hate it, think it's the shittiest game ever, one correct thing about it and it's the best game ever and it's so great and :ccb:. And some games are supposed to be a story telling, character involvement type experience. They don't need to stand alone with gameplay.
I...
:geno:
so hating a game because a crowbar does more damage than a gun is smart? okayy
Adding story, characters and pretty backgrounds does not make bad games fun.
To you, maybe. To others, maybe it does. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't make it pretty. It's just a pig with lipstick.
The same can be said of your earlier examples. Take every single Call of Duty game for example. You're a guy in the military sent out to kill X people for Y reason and your squadmates are all buddy-buddy with you (except a couple that aren't but then wise up to your obvious charm and/or die as the campaign goes on). Things liven up a bit when the plot suddenly changes for some reason and things get interesting, when X group captures Y person or X person betrays you or some other thing that actually makes the single player plot in a multi player game interesting.
And now take away all that, and what are you? A guy that shoots other guys. That's the whole FPS genre, and there's nothing you or I or anyone can do about it. Regardless of plot, every FPS is a bone dry FPS due to the nature of the genre itself.
"I don't care if he has an opinion, because MINE is FACT!"
lockdown6: Summing up the entire topic one post at a time.
In my opinion, stupid opinions are not nearly as uncommon as stupid questions, namely there's PLENTY of them.
Oh sure, you can have your opinion, you're entitled to think what you want. That doesn't mean your opinion can't be based on ignorance, or sheer stupidity, or that we're not going to call out your opinion as idiotic. We're entitled to that too. Your opinion is Half Life sucks, my opinion is you're a fucking idiot. It's a two-way street, best get used to that.
Jesus Christ though, this is why I only buy games I'm sure I'll enjoy, the must-haves. MW is good sure, but it's basically just the new Halo. It'll wallow in it's gameplay with minor cosmetic tweaks for about three more sequels, fall technically behind everything else and then get forgotten once something new one-ups its multiplayer. Flash in the pan, nothing more. I own every game Valve has made so far, Crysis, and both Bioshock games, so I'm pretty used to the good stuff. And when I actually sit down and play some of the other games around (like "Lost: Via Domus") I realize just how highly those games raised the bar.
And speaking of bars, you think a crowbar can't kill in three hits? Let's see you take one to the face, see how good you're feeling. A hooked ten-pound bar of iron is no bueno. Yes, a real gun would more likely kill in one or two hits, but this is a video game, and it needs balance. There has to be SOME incentive to use the crowbar when something gets in your face.

The charm in FPS's is the immersion you can find, you can (at least I can) get more immersed into an FPS than any other genre. The story telling in FPS's are generally a lot of fun, and yeah.
Seems like some games are a swing or a miss with you, one little thing wrong with them and you'll hate it, think it's the shittiest game ever, one correct thing about it and it's the best game ever and it's so great and :ccb:. Well if it's a good game it won't have anything wrong with it.
And Heavy Rain is not a game.
I'm sorry I forgot anything that you don't agree with is dumb.
are you an idiot, how is that a logical reason to hate a game
I play games for the gameplay. Not the story.
A good story is a bonus. If it's not fun, it doesn't matter.
i.e. Just Cause 2
That's why the plot, characters, all that stuff exist. To make a shitty idea interesting. CoD would be nothing without its setting and time period (usually some war of times past), just like Half-Life 2 would be nothing without its setting and characters and plot (the distant future). They all work in co-relation with each other to make something worth looking at.
Well if it's a good game it won't have anything wrong with it.

why isn't HR a game?
How is number 5 a reason to hate a game?
The charm in FPS's is the immersion you can find, you can (at least I can) get more immersed into an FPS than any other genre. The story telling in FPS's are generally a lot of fun, and yeah.
Exactly.

GODDAMN LACK OF AN EDIT BUTTON urgh
How is number 5 a reason to hate a game?
How is #4? Who cares if one weapon does more damage, it's a balancing thing, if you can get that close to enemies you deserve to do more damage, sure it isn't realistic, but it doesn't have to be realistic to be fun
...i.e. Just Cause 2
To you, maybe. To others, maybe it does. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't make it pretty. It's just a pig with lipstick
Isn't that what I'm trying to say? Making bad things pretty doesn't change it.

You clearly haven't played Section 8. Or Dead Space. Or Metroid Prime if you want to call it a shooter.

We're talking about video games
I don't think the article is supposed to be "5 reasons to hate Half-Life" as much as "5 bad things about Half-Life"
Plus, different people judge games differently. It's still a matter of opinion, not much logic really.
How is #5 a bad thing about Half Life, no matter what you argue the amount of time it takes really doesn't affect how good it is, especially since it's DONE
How is #5 a bad thing about Half Life, no matter what you argue the amount of time it takes really doesn't affect how good it is, especially since it's DONE
Duke Nukem Forever only took ... bad example.

Actually CoD would be something without it's setting or even its textures and shaders.
HL2 on the other hand would not because the game, as stated before by both of us, is horrible. Graphics do not make something that isn't fun, fun. Why would you want to be immersed into a world of bullshit?
why isn't HR a game?
Where is the game in Heavy Raid? Do you see it because I don't.
Heavy Rain is greatness though. I hope all of you buy it.
Duke Nukem Forever only took ... bad example.
Yeah sure, but Half Life 2 didn't/hasn't/won't take as long as DNF
Actually CoD would be something without it's setting or even its textures and shaders.

because consoles are not good and pc's are

I've played all three of those games. Dead Space isn't first person so you can instantly count that one out even though it's one of the best horror games I've ever played.
The thing about Metroid Prime and the like is that they're games in a series with established characters that you already know and love. Games like Half-Life introduce you to new people at every opportunity. You don't even find out what the G-Man is supposed to be called until the credits for Half-Life 2.

The article's probably a bait to get some cheap hits from hl2 fans. It certainly didn't make any sense to me, and I'm no hl2 fanboy.
