also i never said half life was horrible on its own quit talking out of context
I've played all three of those games. Dead Space isn't first person so you can instantly count that one out even though it's one of the best horror games I've ever played. The thing about Metroid Prime and the like is that they're games in a series with established characters that you already know and love. Games like Half-Life introduce you to new people at every opportunity. You don't even find out what the G-Man is supposed to be called until the credits for Half-Life 2.
G-Man was nicknamed G-Man probably long before HL2 Right?
GODDAMN LACK OF AN EDIT BUTTON again [editline]02:02AM[/editline]
G-Man was nicknamed G-Man probably long before HL2 Right?
He was but you'd only know if you looked in the game files which was impossible at the time of HL1.
You lot do realise this is a gamesradar joke?

[editline]01:04AM[/editline] Speaking of Gamesrader, everyone go play Okami. It's way better than HL2.
You're not making HL2 sound any better.
You're not making it sound worse
You're not making it sound worse
I'm pretty sure I am.
I'm pretty sure I am.
Yeah to you and anyone who already didn't like it you can't really convince people who enjoy something to stop enjoying it
Yeah to you and anyone who already didn't like it you can't really convince people who enjoy something to stop enjoying it
That makes me sad.
You're not making HL2 sound any better.
My point isn't to make it sound any better. My point is to attempt to get it through that styrofoam chunk you call a skull that every FPS game is the same if you take away the things that make them unique. Look at Bioshock. Take away the Plasmids and you're just a guy shooting other guys. That's boring. Nobody would play that. Now look at Half-Life. You're trying to get to Black Mesa East but shit keeps happening and people keep getting in your way. Take away your objective and the people you're trying to help and you're just a guy shooting other guys. Which, as I said, is boring. Nobody would play that.
That makes me sad.
It doesn't really make sense to be able to make people stop liking something
Okay okay, here is what Half Life is You look at a combine (or marine, if it's HL1) you hold down click, you start shooting at them, they start shooting at you. You both take damage but since you have more health you win. Then you find health packs in oh so cleverly placed corners so you survive and repeat. That is half life. It's a fucking FPS. You point and things and click. Where's the game? Sure there were cool parts like the boat part or the car part or the crane part, but they were too infrequent. Especially in Half Life 1 where you do NOTHING but look at marines, hold down fire, and wait to see who dies first. Let's take a game like Call of Duty 4, pretty much every single mission you're doing something new. While sure, most of it is still pointing and clicking, each level is doing something different so it stays fresh. Not the case with Half Life, where you fight combine in the whole fucking game. Or maybe a game like Dead Space. The game had serious atmosphere, something people claim exists in Half Life but I don't feel it. Not like I feel it in Dead Space. Dead Space even had fucking game mechanics for god's sake. Dismemberment, inventory, all that good stuff. Half Life just has, shooting. That's really it.
That's what most FPS's are you dipshit, Unreal Tournament, Doom and Quake wouldn't have gotten anywhere it they weren't like that.
Luke;20970605']That's what most FPS's are you dipshit, Unreal Tournament, Doom and Quake wouldn't have gotten anywhere it they weren't like that.
Thank you sir, that is exactly the point I am trying to make. But alas, I am but a mindless small typed bit of font on the internet just like everyone else.
Thank you sir, that is exactly the point I am trying to make. But alas, I am but a mindless small typed bit of font on the internet just like everyone else.
Combined we can mean something after I sleep
It funny how people talk crap over Games they hate. And this one fit it's example of some nerd spending his time writing an article about why he hate games over nothing. :V
My point isn't to make it sound any better. My point is to attempt to get it through that styrofoam chunk you call a skull that every FPS game is the same if you take away the things that make them unique.
You're not understanding the difference between a setting or story with gameplay mechanics. Of course if you took out everything that made the games unique they would be the same. What I''m saying is that graphics do not change the game. What changes the game is, the game. For example, Metroid Prime has lock on, upgrades (missiles, charge shots, grapples etc,) exploration, backtracking etc. What does Half Life have? Running and shooting come with the genre, so what is there that makes HL2 the game unique? Nothing.
Luke;20970605']That's what most FPS's are you dipshit, Unreal Tournament, Doom and Quake wouldn't have gotten anywhere it they weren't like that.
What's it like to have rage induced fits over a video game opinion?
Luke;20970605']That's what most FPS's are you dipshit, Unreal Tournament, Doom and Quake wouldn't have gotten anywhere it they weren't like that.
You must not play very many goof FPS's. And Quake or UT is not like what I explained at all. Doom might though.
What's it like to have rage induced fits over a video game opinion?
oh ketchup please teach me how to be superior to everyone
oh ketchup please teach me how to be superior to everyone
well first you have to watch a large amount of gay pornography
well first you have to watch a large amount of gay pornography
that won't help at all :saddowns:
Oh wow, someone scraped the bottom of the idea barrel to look cool on the internet. [editline]07:15AM[/editline] And failed.
that won't help at all :saddowns:
oh trust me it does, especially the kind that involves sandpaper condoms :smug:
Oh wow, someone scraped the bottom of the idea barrel to look cool on the internet. [editline]07:15AM[/editline] And failed.
Did everyone miss the point that gamesradar are currently doing a joke week that they hate everything over the most petty reasons
oh trust me it does, especially the kind that involves sandpaper condoms :smug:
can you give me a link to this delicious pornography? ;) [editline]12:16AM[/editline]
Did everyone miss the point that gamesradar are currently doing a joke week that they hate everything over the most petty reasons
pretty much yeah, how are we supposed to know

We could compare and contrast FPS games all day and not come to a liable conclusion. While Half-Life 2 doesn't have missles or upgrades or lock-on or backtracking or some other thing you know you want to argue that the game DOESN'T have, it does have characterization and plot, and that's more than a game like Metroid can ever say.
Did everyone miss the point that gamesradar are currently doing a joke week that they hate everything over the most petty reasons
It's funny though because they're right.
Damn, GamesRadar is fucking stupid. Gordon Freeman is supposed to be you, you're the protagonist. He's only an icon to make people buy the game. Half-Life series never been about G-Man, so why explain his nature?
okay so who said anything about graphics
I did
Also, non-linearity and backtracking (EXCESSIVE in Metroid's case) do not a game make.
