it really sucks, middleschool is like the worst time you ever have in school, highschool things get better
For some people, me included, it does. But for others it stays the same or gets worse.
God I can just imagine how you guys all look(ed) like. Being bullied? Moving schools and getting bullied there? Y'all must('ve) look(ed) pretty fucked up haha. Me? Never been bullied. Back in middle school I was the bully. Now I see people that do get bullied and I realize lots of them are poor sods like the lot of you were (are?) So I talk to them. Pretty nice when a jock is nice to you I would bet. But really? Some of you trying to commit suicide? Like holy shit it's not that bad haha (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting/Shut up" - Pascall))

You would think with all the school shootings and suicides that take place would deter this kind of behavior, this is the kind of fucked up shit that causes it. Bullies might push this otherwise sane person to the brink then come in and do something really drastic. This shit really needs to be taken seriously, as it is right now we're just allowing this behavior to escalate.
'jock' on FP stop taking the bait

People who act tough like you tend to be the weakest of them all... How does it feel to be ontop of the faces of your latest win against the men and women who can't defend themselves against the endless voices in their heads. A never ending reminder of themselves about how horrifically awkward, and pathetic they are awful they are as a human being.
Really wish that schools would actually make a stand to this shit. It happens way too much that schools, both public and private seem to brush it under the table and hope it goes away or they can blame the victim as its easier to prove. One of my schoolmates got bullied for nearly three years straight, told his parents, told the school and even one on one chats with the principal. They did sweet fuck all the entire time. Well one lunch time my friend snapped, ended up beating the bully to near the point of death (both legs and one arm broken, cracked his skull and broke four ribs). School wanted to expel him, however they changed their mind very quickly after he and his parents took the school to court and won. Didn't get charged with assault due to his age along with the fact people were told it was happening for years, however that is one thing good about the Australian justice system. If more of that happened you could guarantee itd stop, chances are of that happening are low.
Schools don't seem to give a fuck till something extreme happens, just to cover their own ass. It's sickening.
Are we going to ignore the fact his parents are partially to blame? Why the fuck didn't they intervene?
So I talk to them. Pretty nice when a jock is nice to you I would bet.
it's not. 99% of the time you're paranoid as fuck they're just there to fuck with you.
Are we going to ignore the fact his parents are partially to blame? Why the fuck didn't they intervene?
Not like the bully would casually mention it during dinner. Plus if the kid is shitty enough to bully a student to the point of suicide, I highly doubt the bully's parents would do jack shit. "My son/daughter is an ANGEL how DARE you insinuate they are such a rotten piece of shit. YOUR kid is the rotten piece of shit here." And they wonder why perfectly good students will fucking shoot up schools over this shit?
Schools receive barely any funding at all. Even these Catholic schools, at least in my area, were and still are struggling to get by. Teachers and faculty make jack and shit. The state and/or tuition can't even afford to repair their buildings and make them safe to live. Tell me, if you were a school administrator and you knew that your school received nothing at all, and you knew that bullying was a thing, would you want to risk the lawsuit and lose everything for hundreds of students when Jimmy Rich-Parents got in trouble for bullying and they didn't want to accept responsibility, so they start harassing your school with lawsuits? Would you give a fuck if you were a teacher and you could barely afford rent but know you could lose your job if you spoke out of line about the wrong kid? What if you did care and did have money? Would you really want to press charges against a school kid who probably has a shitty home life and/or abusive parents and get them to enter a prison system from an early age from which there is no escape? You know that America's prison system is already overpopulated, would you really want to condemn a child to that fate for bullying when what they really need is actual help to get over their problems that make them lash out? None of this is to say that inaction should be the only thing that happens. But what needs to happen is reform. Ground-up reform for schools. Schools need to actually get funding, tons of schools in this country can't even fix their roofs or water and are deemed unlivable, and you want them to go to court for you? Schools need networks with which to deal with bullying problems, from top-tier psychological staff, counselors, and maybe even friends in the prosecutor's office for when things really get bad so that the school can have legal protection to not fear doing the right thing. Teachers need to be paid fair wages and be offered similar legal protections. I love how victims that defend themselves against violence can get punished for defending themselves
I love how victims that defend themselves against violence can get punished for defending themselves
"Oh, but punishing them is necessary, because to prepare these kids for society, we can't have ANY violence, self-defence or not!"
Do you have a personality disorder or something?
Sounds like they're probably an actual sociopath, low empathy with high narcissism are pretty common traits for them. Trying to make them feel bad is pretty pointless since they generally only have a very shallow emotional profile, their entire focus is on themselves and not much else.
I love how victims that defend themselves against violence can get punished for defending themselves
It's because it legally muddies the water whereas if you did nothing it's more cut and dry for the administration.
It's because it legally muddies the water whereas if you did nothing it's more cut and dry for the administration.
It also means less paperwork and makes the administration look bad, which they really don't want.
[editline]14th August 2016[/editline] He meant the victim's parents, not the bully's parents.
My bad, this particular subject makes me seethe with rage, especially since the victim's death could absolutely be prevented. Quite frankly, I could give a rats ass how the school feels about it. I sympathize with the fact they hardly have any funding and they can't just magic up miracles out of thin air, but they absolutely CANNOT do nothing about bullying. They have a fucking responsibility and need to start shouldering the load. If there are problems such as bullying, they need to take steps to solve that shit immediately to prevent more deaths or good people turning into sociopaths due to the torment. We are talking about systems where the victim is punished as much if not more than the abuser and that is abso-fucking-lutely unacceptable! Though I do agree, the school system as a whole needs a gigantic overhaul and our government needs to start giving a shit about education. Not NCLB kind of shit but actually giving a shit about giving us decent schools for a decent education that can properly prepare the next generation for hardships they may face in life. The current system as it stands is a blatant fucking failure if students are so poorly treated it can drive them to suicide.
At my middle school they gave my bullies candy and did nothing to actually stop their constant humiliation and teasing. pushes from my parents to try to get the school to do something did nothing, they just refused to actually punish the perpetrators. only really eased up a bit when my friend (who has aspergers and cuz of that they bullied him) clocked one of the assholes in the face when he wouldn't leave my friend alone. it eased up a bit after that, and luckily my friend wasn't suspended or anything (im pretty sure that was because he was in the special needs program) but like when your entire class is like 30 kids, and the entire school (pre-k to 8th grade) has like 200 kids total you really can't do nothing about bullies like the school did. it was sickening and part of the reason I have self image issues and anxiety issues to this day. fuck them, and fuck bullying,
If I was a school administrator, I couldn't live with myself knowing my negligence was one of the causes for a student to take their own life.
Religious schools and other private institutions are a lot less likely to seriously reprimand a child since they fear the parent may remove them from the school - and thus, lose the tuition they're making off that student.
That's the understatement of a lifetime. Here's a little story from my school. So the backstory is that I went to a Catholic school and when I was a Junior there was a giant scandal in the school with the Freshman class. Now this school was about 85% rich white republicans, with this specific class being about 99% rich white republicans. You know how every class becomes known for something throughout the years? You have a really smart class, a really "bad" class, etc.? Well this was the really "rich" class. Basically, a group of boys from this class started what they called "the vault" in 7th grade (at their previous school). Now, "the vault" was a giant collection of any nudes of the girls from multiple local schools and they'd basically just store any nudes they got in it (there were like three people in charge and around 10 others involved). This existed since they were in 7th grade until things broke down at the end of their freshman year. It went from something that a few people had access to and a larger amount of people knew about in some form but didn't say anything (although most didn't know the extent of it, they just assumed it was a few p, to this massive topic around the school which everyone was talking about. The vault contained multiple sex tapes of other students (they were 15 when shit hit the fan but they were 12 or 13 when they started it) as well as a metric fuckload of nudes (it was like 20GB between the photos and the videos). Now reminder, these kids were 15 when they got caught but it included pics from all the way back when they started it at age 12, and these were pics of the girls from their class mostly. Shit hit the fan over a period of a few days. They had apparently downright approached some of the senior girls and asked for nudes, and they approached the wrong person as someone started talking about it to some of the other girls, and then they mentioned various things from these people in the past, and the girls then realized it wasn't just boys asking for nudes, it was a loooot bigger than that. By the end of that day, pretty much all the students in the school knew about it. The following day is when the school got notice. One of the teachers asked a few trustworthy students what this "vault" she kept hearing about was and they told her. She went to the administration and things exploded. After investigations and all the in-between drama was over, this was the punishment the students received: They made them delete it They suspended them for a whole day They had two Saturday detentions at the end of the school year (which included reflection, prayer, mass, and asking for forgiveness) One of them lost his position as student council president That was the extent of their punishment. They had 20+ GB of nudes and sex tapes from underaged students and were actively soliciting pics and videos from them, and that was their punishment from the school. The school did apparently technically get the police involved, but the reason I say technically is because the student who was the "leader" of the group (also student council president) is the son of the town police chief. They did bring more than JUST him in (so the department technically got involved) but they didn't do shit. Also to be clear, when I say that was the School's punishment, I moreover mean the diocese (for you non-religious folks, a diocese is basically an overarching area of the Catholic church which contains all of the Church institutions in an area which is lead by a bishop and some others.) The school wasn't really the ones who handled it, they were just the ones who supposedly handled it. The diocese REALLY didn't want this to become a known scandal for obvious reasons, especially since they basically covered it up in the end. Also to top it off, he became student council president again in his Junior year. I can just imagine the shitstorm that would have happened if the news had gotten out of the school and "Catholic school covers up underage pornography ring run by underage students" was all over the place
Lets face it, basically everything the American education system has done after shit like columbine was to try as hard as it can to separate itself from anything students do and to have as little responsibility for anything that happens in their lives as possible. Opting for things like zero-tolerance and banning of phones and electronics as a means to avoid actually managing anything that happens inside their domains including violence and theft. Schools in America do not solve problems, they try to ignore them as hard as possible and play dumb when shit like this happens. And fuck I lost count of the amount of time I had to listen to my teachers complain offhandedly about how hard their jobs are.
What do you do for kids too young to be charged?
Is there even such a thing? They've put kids on trial as young as 7 or 8 before. Surely by the time it gets to that point they're more than old enough to be charged. What else would we do, anyway? We've already tried telling them not to do it. They don't care. We've tried suspending them, they call it time off and relax. We've tried every light handed approach, we've tried literally bonking them over the bonce with a yardstick(Back in the day, anyway, hasn't been done for a couple decades now). We've tried everything else.
Mostly agree with your sentiment, but giving bullies a week off is not going to fix anything. If anything, they should be forced to come to school more, possibly on weekends or a couple hours before or after.
My plan isn't 'giving them a week off', unless you count sitting in Juvy a week's vacation. I chose those steps primarily because suspension doesn't work. For any kid, really, but especially bullies.
