You gave Afghanis weapons for your own purposes, but those weapons did help them overthrow the Soviets. You also gave weapons to the Libyans who fought for their freedom.

However, you gave weapons to the Contras who were trying to remove a government that was actually doing something good. Well you pretty much set up the Contras, but US involvement in South America has almost always been bad so lets not go into that.

Christ almighty what is with all the love for American foreign policy? Have any of you guys every actually studied history or politics?

You do realize that South Korea essentially has every single piece of conventional military technology that we have, right?

Guns, planes, armor, ammunition, missiles, gear, and all of that lends to a massive technological advantage on the part of South Korea. That and the fact that their soldiers aren't ridiculously malnourished (like ThePinkPanzer said) and are far better trained and have a greater amount of discipline than the North Koreans, and you can bet that they'd come out of any sort of conflict on top.
