-snip-
Aww thanks mate <3
So is the decision whether or not to fuck with TotalBiscuit an indie dev rite of passage now? I know that there are some really inexperienced and/or shifty game developers who trample over everyone until they accidentally hit a landmine, but it's so strange for it to be consistently the same guy at the end.
In my view, if you are going to go beyond the usual healthy relationship of "watch my vids, i'll make more", you need to be very careful about managing your "army", especially since you are not in command of millions of trained soldiers. Most of them are just children behind a keyboard, and controlling thousands of fanatical kids is impossible.
I think in someone like TB's case it's less an army than a riot. TB really has little control over what his fan base does. He can only try and influence their actions.
Also worth pointing out that TB recently had one of his worst mental/stress breakdowns recently and opened up on how he's been doing. He hides a lot of his private life except for some stuff through Genna. http://www.reddit.com/r/Cynicalbrit/comments/1xrb2d/why_did_tb_deleted_his_reddit_account_again/cfe40zd Worth reading to get an idea of what goes through the mind of someone in his position. I know the thoughts, but not the intensity. I only have 7500 subscribers and only a few cunts who piss me off. He has tens of thousands. Nerd^3 also did a post recently saying how he gets deaththreats from people when he doesn't like a popular game and such. And while it might seem a joke from the viewers point of view you can only ignore it for so much. This is one reason TB hasn't been tweeting much unless it's needed to keep his feed informed.
Guy seriously needs to take a break.

It's not that they hate him specifically, so much as it seems to be that he's one of the biggest voices slamming a crappy little game on Steam as it comes out. He's just the biggest and easiest target for them to lash out at.
I think in someone like TB's case it's less an army than a riot. TB really has little control over what his fan base does. He can only try and influence their actions.
Perhaps the same could be said of all "fanbases". Even certain members of the Angry Army, the fanbase of "Angry" Joe Vargas, went AWOL during the whole Tropes vs Women shenanigans many months back. Then again, perhaps a more appropriate term for a fanbase than an "army" would be a herd or a flock. A stampede of cows is hard to get under control, as I imagine cowboys would attest, and the same could go for a "crusade" of fanboys. Come to think of it, the term "flock" is not appropriate for a fanbase, since it has strong Abrahamic connotations and implies some level of docility since sheep are more easily scared than pissed off and tend not to be aggressive. Also, I am certain my words are not empty like my soul, but looking at FUN Creations it's plain to see that they sit upon a miserable little pile of secrets.
No one has control of their fanbase. TB isn't responsible for the people who watch his videos
He isn't but his response to stress is pretty bad all around. He has a point when he says that some of his fanbase is full of pricks (although I guess that's what you get when you yourself act like a prick on video) and that his stress issues can't be solved with "just brush it off and grow a spine" arguments, but nothing stops him from backing off. Like I'm pretty sure that with all the ad revenue, people watching his videos regularly and all the publicity he's getting he can afford a hiatus of a few months. People take vacations for a reason.
Considering how he says he's pretty much working constantly just to get by I don't think he can take a hiatus.
And he has money to buy essentially all upcoming games on steam when they come out and hire lawyers ?
And he has money to buy essentially all upcoming games on steam when they come out and hire lawyers ?
Well yeah but that's pretty much work costs, he has to buy those games to do his job. He also needs lawyers to protect him from nutters like these, so after all the expenses I doubt he has much left.
And he has money to buy essentially all upcoming games on steam when they come out and hire lawyers ?
He isnt hiring the lawyers, his channels father company is.
And he has money to buy essentially all upcoming games on steam when they come out and hire lawyers ?
I'm pretty sure the lawyers are Polaris' lawyers seeing as they're the ones handling this situation. And a lot of his games are provided to him free of charge.
Fair enough. He still needs to take a break somehow.
Speaking of which, he went on a metal cruise about a month ago, right after dealing with Guise of the Wolf in fact. Here is a picture related to that excursion. [t]http://i.imgur.com/EYb3eiG.jpg[/t] And here is an unrelated picture of Polaris preparing for war against FUN Creators. [t]http://i.imgur.com/KKahWgf.jpg[/t]
What's TB even holding, his headphones?
Pretty sure that's just a gun, you can see the trigger guard thing near his finger.
I think he didn't bring his gun when that particular screencap occurred, though he does have an airsoft collection. I forget if he bussed out one of his airsofts on that particular podcast, since I don't remember which episode it was. No wait, silly me, he does have a pistol in that shot. I just rolled poorly on a Perception check, and had a -20 to Perception rolls. DAMN YOU NUFFLE! But let's probably just wait for an update on the situation when Monday rolls around. I think I've started to blur the lines between this thread and the Totalbiscuit Megathread, and now we're on a weird tangent not entirely unlike the Co-Optional Podcast.
Can someone refresh me as to what the Garry incident was?
First there was a very bad game. Then the developers, Wild Game Studios, went after TB by copyright-claiming the video and claiming all sorts of outrageous toot. Next, there was the Day One Garry's Incident Incident, a video in which TB calls them out on their bullshirt and later gets the WTF Is of the game restored, along with claiming the skulls of Wild Game Studios. And now the cycle is starting again. We have the bad game, the copyright claims, and in theory the informative video should follow.
:( Poor TB. He doesn't deserve to be sad.
I don't think crappy indie devs constantly trying to kill his channel will help either.
I don't think crappy indie devs constantly trying to kill his channel will help either.
Yeah. It sucks. I enjoy his WTF is... videos a lot and take his word over most anyone elses.
I seriously dislike Total Biscuit because he's a total twat. He gets overly butthurt at literally the smallest fucking things, and he's a prick to pretty much everyone who isn't his Yes Men. But this is hilarious, and his reviews for games are usually pretty funny.
I don't think crappy indie devs constantly trying to kill his channel will help either.
Even though he's suffering because of it, he's doing what he thinks is right. Namely putting questionable devs in their place and protecting consumers from unsuitable products. Even if more devs pull a stupid like Wild Game Studios and FUN Creators, it'll mean more skulls for the skull throne. And more therapy, come to think of it.
so found a response to latest tweet uhhhh
compwhizii?

I also like how he covers options menus in his videos. That's actually pretty useful to me.
Can't wait until a TB reply video. They're done.
Helps To Have a Map. Gave me a giggle I've been saying for a while now that almost anyone given some time and access to Google can make a game. Especially if it uses freebie assets that are found on the net, or terribly bad ones. I've seen 12 year old children produce higher quality 3D models than Guise of the Wolf. And with digital distribution taking over the retail market, and outlets such as Greenlight, it's not a stretch to think some games might be made by a person or a couple of people, even kids, looking to make some easy cash while toying with a hobby at our expense, and finding a way to sell it. And this whole situation just reeks of exactly that. A couple of children arguing over the internet, but about grown up things for which have grown up consequences

The best I can get out of games is 30FPS, and I've played fucking slide shows before.
