GIS database is what the man wants you to think the world is. you really think the earths like how they say it is bro wow
what they are doing falls under GIS, they didn't discuss implementation of already existing GIS data in public and private databases. It's a waste of time, money, and redundancy if someone already scanned certain areas either with an open licence to use it or a low enough pricepoint. I looked through the faq and it said it hinted at existing databases like places they'll never go. As someone who has experience with spatial analysis particularly in this area, maybe I'm missing something they worded in a short dumb down fashion where they won't go out in the field if adequate enough data exists?
Decided to visit the forums. Everyone there is just hyping the game and throwing money at them. But, I was reading a bit on the site and they want to introduce a small play area(Few km) and expand on top of that. For all we know this could be going on for years, adding a bit at a time.
Cool I'm going to go to my house and play video games in it
How the fuck are they going to break through forest canopy with drones? They can take as many pictures as they want, but it can't be easy to generate a 3D model of a forested location when you consider how complex they become with branches and such. No wonder they used a mountain as an example.
they'll be doing some procedural work, so maybe they'll do the same thing. Though I will say I was asked last year to help out on interpreting lindar data taken from an evergreen forest to use or help implement (I forget) an algorithm to display virtual representations of the tree's branches.
I had an idea for sometihng like this when I was a kid. Except it was in first person.
Imagine this as a first person shooter camping would achieve a new tier of hatred.
Shame their shop doesn't load, I was actually interested in looking at the packages.
There is no doubt in my mind that this game will deliver on all of its promises
Aw man. I was hoping for a "do what you feel" game so I could be able to do stupid shit around the globe. Or hell, even use it as a cheap way to visit the world without leaving your computer. But no, it's a survival RPG and I don't care much for those.
scan it 1 square kilometer at a time 510 million scans have fun
More and more games are concentrating on realism, It's kind of sad, I wish the industry could begin to concentrate more on worlds designed around a set stylistic choice or vision. Stuff like Shadow of the Colossus was fantastic because the world presented a story in it's self, you could play that game without the cut scenes and it would still be fantastic. Its more difficult to do that kind of thing in a photo realistic environment.
I'd like a survival game set on something like an alien planet and you have to figure out the ecosystem and shit and you have no idea how anything works. Maybe it would be frustrating if you go "I wonder if this plant is edible" and it turns you inside-out and the only way you learn this is by trial and error, though.
get yer characters here! http://shop.rerollgame.com/game-packages/ lol
scan it 1 square kilometer at a time 510 million scans have fun
http://rerollgame.com/about/faq/ look under done sourcing.
also there's mutants [editline]3rd February 2014[/editline] basically they're going to release the game in parts, the first part probably being europe because they can't use drones in the US yet
Welp, good fucking luck gentlemen. You're realaaaaaaaheheheheeaaaally gonna need it.
get yer characters here! http://shop.rerollgame.com/game-packages/ lol
They're selling character packages for a fucking singleplayer game... This is a sign of either gross incompetency or a scam.
get yer characters here! http://shop.rerollgame.com/game-packages/ lol
lmao one of them is 280 bucks
get yer characters here! http://shop.rerollgame.com/game-packages/ lol
lmfao 270USD++
Lol these guys are ridiculously ambitious.
Something about this screams vapourware
lmao one of them is 280 bucks
no it's like 4 different models, it seems to be more like buying the game like...legit, but it just comes with different characters. It isn't THAT big of a deal, but it is weird.
http://shop.rerollgame.com/the-lone-wolf/ lol pay to win
Little bummed that it's not first person but honestly, if they manage to pull off all the promise this has, I don't mind a whole lot.
HELLO! I want to simulate the universe in my stupid game! Shower me with money!!!
It has never been seen before! Totally not!
this is a ridiculously ambitious idea if i've ever seen one it won't ever be fully released, it will take years and years, and when it's "complete" no one will care about the game anymore. the idea of mapping the entire world is interesting but the way they are doing it (scanning the world in with pictures from drones) makes it so static it wouldn't be fun to play anyway. the socalled gameplay they have shown doesn't look very good either. not going to spread my buttcheeks open and poop all over the game for the rest of my life if it turns out to be actually fun and cool, but i think that chances are very slim. there was another game with the exact same idea where you would play within whole worlds and universes and it was a top-down RPG perspective too. where did that game go? no where. everyone stopped caring about it and i'm pretty sure there hasn't been updates on it for a while. would love to be corrected though, i don't remember what it was called but there was a post here on fp.
I was interested until they showed the gameplay. They're going with top down third person after going through all this effort to create such detailed environments?
the game that will make us all realize just actually how boring our own planet is
We'll never see anything like what we're expecting out of this anytime soon. I know this just from my old Flight Sim days. There's a Switzerland VFR scenery that's just heightmaps and satellite imaging for the most part, and before it's installed it takes up 16Gb on its own. Imagine the entire world, and with enough detail to be believable from the ground, not just 20,000 feet and higher
Imagine the bug-testing.
I would kill for a SimEarth 2.0
Somebody, somewhere is gonna steal those drones. ()
