Honestly, I think that circumcision is fine for religious or cultural reasons but otherwise it doesn't really make sense to circumcise your kid.

It doesn't serve a purpose and for the majority that it "works" for there are people that have botched circumcision. Circumcision has never been about improving sex lives, it's about enforcing social norms that are rooted in Judeo-Christian tradition. "I want my son's dick to look like everyone elses" isn't really a good argument since it's entirely subjective to the society that that person lives in.

Little Jimmy isn't a jew or a muslim just because his parents said so, and his rights should be respected. Likewise in the US you can get circumcised when you're actually old enough to make that decision yourself if you want to. If I told my doctor to cut my kid's earlobe off because that's just how I like it, they'd probably (and hopefully) refuse. So why is religion any different when it's all about the whim of the parents?

I think all that needs to be said is that circumcision is fine. So long as the person getting circumcised is 18 and can legally consent. [editline]17th May 2016[/editline] its basically a cosmetic surgery. You wouldn't let a mother force her child to have a nose job done or something.

I had no idea circumcision was such a hot topic. I'm circumcised and I couldn't really give a fuck. It doesn't effect me really. Granted I don't think it should be done past early infancy unless a legal adult wants it done or something. No idea what I would want for my kids, I'm pretty indifferent on the matter as a whole. Am I in the minority?

IDK, to call it mutilation requires that it degrades the functionality of the penis and that's not really decisively shown yet. It shouldn't be legal to force a circumcision on a minor unless there's a real medical reason to, but calling it mutilation requires something beyond it being fucked up.

Why do we call female circumcision Female Genital Mutilation but don't call male circumcision Male Genital Mutiliation? Both have the same effect, so how are they not the same?
