• War with US under Donald Trump "becoming practical reality", says China military official
True. I think the military would probably do something about him though if it came down to that. Or at least I hope they would have sense enough to.
If China declared or enacted any type of war, cyber or physical, against the US, our military's response would not be treason and a coup against our current government. Do you guys remember what happened with 9/11? A war does a good job at making the people forget about political issues with an enemy to unite against. The last thing I would hope for in the wake of an attack against the country is our country to break from within, that would leave everyone vulnerable.
I'd have to ask exactly what a conventional war of this scale would do for anyone and solve exactly what issues for anybody? Yes this conflict is potentially massive and the human costs would be catastrophic but... Why in gods name would anyone actually start it? What? The South China sea and the potential trade benefits? Is that really worth China pissing off literally everyone sans maybe Russia? And it is on China because we're sure as hell not gonna start it. We have no reason to. We would gain nothing.

[sp]Don't actually do it[/sp]
World War 1 was started over some pissant Balkan country a Pissant Dying Empire wanted.
Yes and that was a much simpler and more politically convoluted time where the world was a whole lot smaller and disconnected. It was essentially a series of conflicts between individual countries that all happened at once because someone gave them an excuse to start an imperial landgrab bonus round. Wars like that don't happen anymore. I don't think China is ignorant of what would happen if they trip Article 5 of NATO. So unless they are colossally stupid, or intend to start a nuclear war: This isn't going to happen and this is just more political flexing by China. A country who is so absolutely obsessed with projecting that the state has near omnipotent power that they throw a fit at literally anything that insults their masculinity as a country. Such as Taiwan being a thing they can't make stop existing.
"This is an act of war" and suddenly he can.
the president can't declare war
This is all locker room talk. China would never go to war with the US. They would never initiate war.
Dumb fear mongering.
Trump alone is probably the only person stupid or suicidal enough to start a war. China and US governments know that peaceful trade is best for them both.
Yeah but in all seriousness there's about as much chance of us going to war with China under Trump as there is of us going to war with Russia under Clinton.
I'm in the drafting age too this is some fucking massive bullshit
Time to accidentally break a leg!
Time to accidentally break a leg!
woops my leg was sawed off accidentally by a bread knife
the president can't declare war
lol presidents since Truman don't care
lol presidents since Truman don't care
Yeah technically they're not allowed to but there's such a precedent that nobody wants to be the one to say that all those other presidents were acting illegally.
Don't worry, America will invent power armour to combat the Chinese.
any conflict between the US and China is reaaal bad for Australia... like China is one of our biggest trading partners but we have deeper ties with the US in other ways so where would we go if a conflict arose?
Welp, a Great War like in Fallout 4 will happen? Watch out in Anchorage if that happens.
is it too early to have my sentry bots now?
Just build a Chinese Wall.
It'll be like the Great Wall, but even Greater - believe me, it'll be tremendous.

War with China is only a "practical reality" if China decides to declare war on the US or one of its allies. China has been postering and generally acting aggressively in their region long before Trump, their attempt to pass the blame for their own actions and retarded positions ("one china") off on Trump is stupid.
I can't imagine China's economy doing very well without trade between the US and it's allies in the event of a conventional war. This smells like the North Korea playbook.
oh shit page 3 snips
I hope you guys like the draft because a war with China would have every fit man and woman on the battlefield.
I hope you guys like the draft because a war with China would have every fit man and woman on the battlefield.
you realize the entire war would be in the air and water, right? there would be next to know land fighting whatsoever
Yeah going into China on land would be suicide there's no way that the US military would do it alone. Doesn't matter if our troops are better equipped against those kinds of numbers. But in other theaters, and refusing to engage in a land invasion, might do decently well. Would still fucking suck because we're so economically reliant on one another.
you realize the entire war would be in the air and water, right? there would be next to know land fighting whatsoever
Logistics are land based And ships and planes require men to sail and fly them.
Logistics are land based And ships and planes require men to sail and fly them.
I think most projections presume the use of Japan as a staging ground.
They wouldn't do it at all because that is the only time china would launch a fucking tactical nukes at our ships, They have a no-first use policy only for defense.
Yeah I don't think this is going to actually happen I'm moreso talking from a purely hypothetical force-vs-force standpoint. [editline]28th January 2017[/editline] Where nukes aren't part of the picture.
