What have "we" gone over? All I remember is a bunch of idiot man-babies who couldn't provide a solid reason why the WBC shouldn't be able to speak a couple months ago. And I got a funny title out of it.
Protip: When you're in a hole, stop digging.
You're going to break ground on the other side of the planet if you don't.
Isn't hate speech against the law in the US?
According to Wikipedia (followed by like 4 citations), no.
"Laws prohibiting hate speech are unconstitutional in the United States; the United States federal government and state governments are forbidden by the First Amendment of the Constitution from restricting speech."
It's not illegal. The only way you can limit "hate speech" if it it falls under obscenity, and that can only be determined if you establish an appellate court or an appellate commission to specifically review it- something very difficult to set up and even more difficult to side with the state. So by all means, no, it's not illegal unless it falls under the separate category of "threat of immediate danger".
;38943357']Being offensive idiots/dickwads isn't illegal.
WBC are a bunch of fuckers, but they aren't doing anything illegal.
In the same way, this sort of stuff- the hacking, bikers, etc- I'm fine with, because it's using civil abilities to counter civil abilities, and is a demonstration of society stepping in when someone is using the system in an inherently unpopular way. This isn't always good, but in this case I think we can all agree it is.
Also, while they are a bunch of lawyers who do bait for lawsuits, I'm not convinced that they aren't true believers also. They've been doing this radical christian thing long before they started protesting, so I'm not so certain that their views are just a sham.
I don't see how they could actually believe the bullshit they spout. If their god would kill so many people because of homosexuality then their god does not deserve praise any more than they do.
That is so absurdly, completely subjective. WBC may be a bunch of assholes but your reasoning could just as easily be applied to, say, people picketing a KKK rally. This in particular:
is literally saying 'if they preach, and get beaten up, they shouldn't be able to pursue legal action', which sets a horrible precedent for all kinds of other cases.
What if that reasoning were applied to the civil rights movement in the 1960s? What if blacks couldn't go to the courts when they were beaten and abused during rallies, because 'they have free speech but need to face the consequences'? In fact, that's exactly what happened, and it's now seen as a horrible mistake.
You can't shut down someone's right to free speech because you don't like their opinion. You have no right to not be offended. They are responsible for what they say, but that doesn't mean you can physically attack them because you don't like what they say. WBC can go fuck themselves with a rake but they aren't sending mail bombs or death threats and labeling them a hate group would set a dangerous precedent for the rest of us.
I'm not saying that they shouldn't be allowed to pursue legal action if attacked. What i am saying is that they suppress any opposition against them. If someone tries to speak against them at pickets they gang up and make the person shut up by surrounding them with yelling members and prevent them from being heard.
However, on the last part:
but that doesn't mean you can physically attack them because you don't like what they say.
I feel that in cases like the WBC, their protests should be considered provocation and antagonistic, because they pretty much are provoking people to attack them.
Just like how during the civil rights protests, many times when blacks would rally together and protest they would be arrested for provocation.

I've made similar arguments to Christians. The response is generally either "It was justified because it was the will of God" or "You don't get to question it, it's God, that's that" and sometimes "He works in ways we don't understand, that sometimes seem cruel." I don't pretend to try to understand the mentality. There are churches out there in the rural Midwest that preach similar, if not worse, things and have done so without the publicity. Even if WBC doesn't believe in it, then there are groups that do.
Isn't hate speech against the law in the US?
It's not illegal to be racist or offensive against people on a personal level. It is, however, illegal on a professional and federal level.
Aka. A boss can say "i hate those dark tv stealing niggers, the whole lot of them" all he wants to no legal intervention at home or even just walking around. but he can't say that at his place of business to a worker or discriminate against them or refuse to let blacks enter his store.
He's going to hell.

They're breeding, you know.
"Ughhhh it's King Tiger... AGAIN guys." "Oh damnit, I wish he would JUST GO AWAY. I know! Let's ask him over twenty questions about his pointless argument and continue to feed the fire so the majority of this thread will be about something we had no interest in, in the first place." I mean everyone could of just ignored him, and then he wouldn't have anything to respond to... but you know the first idea was better anyways. Everyone arguing against him knows he's wrong, everyone arguing against him knows he isn't going to change his mind, what is the point, what are you trying to accomplish?
