The UK wants access to all phone and internet user data.

Inb4 they leave all the data unencrypted on a train somewhere.
They're forgetting that they can't violate a persons right to privacy without a valid reason. And they need a warrant or court order to do so, so I don't know how these bills don't just get thrown out the second they're brought to the table for being unconstitutional.
Or, alternatively, the police could do their actual job.
This should only be acceptable if the police have probable cause, same as any other invasion of privacy.
Oh please, millions of people play online games every day and recording chat messages between them is entirely impossible. I doubt the article is being factual here as I don't think they would suggest this actually be done.
I imagine a little government desk worker for ever game server in the UK, with a little paper pad, scribbling down what everyone says in global chat.
Sensationalist bollocks at it's best, I wouldn't be suprised if the entire article is fabricated... A scheme such as this would be political suicide, even the conservatives are wise enough to know that.
Fuck you, Cameron!
Uh they already do this most of time
it's so they can catch out the few 'we don't log anything!' people, and make witness summons easier to get the data
This would just end up left on a train on an unencrypted memory stick. I'd rather not have my personal information entrusted with a government that likes to lose personal data.
And that's before you even consider the fact that its a pretty bad idea for other reasons.
why would they store communication in games
"guys how do I fly"
"john madden, football football football"
I'm sure terrorists aren't going to plan ways to bomb people in moonbase alpha

Really for crying out loud, terrorism isn't going to be stopped with this!
Really for crying out loud, terrorism isn't going to be stopped with this!
that's exactly what a terrorist would say...
It's not as if the government have already played "let me put this incredibly sensitive data on this publicly used bus seat" way too many times recently , why the hell would we trust them with anything else?
Encrypt all the things.
Encrypt all the things.
Shame that you are legally obliged to give up keys in the UK.
Although it is however possible that the punishment (up to 6 months in jail) is less than something else someone could be accused of.
And within a couple of years, all the database will show is technophobic old people's Facebook posts and encrypted traffic to and from VPNs.
If this kind of thing ever passes in Australia, I'm going to encrypt my hard drives entirely and devote a week to talking about fake bomb plans with friends. You know, just to see how much they'd actually be listening.
Haha, no matter if shit like this was to pass here, all my shit has been encrypted for years. Your move, government.
whats with all the government interest with peoples/privacy and the internet lately...

The fascism is spreading. We must curb the infection before it spreads.
Also my government sucks balls.
Goverment, y u take away Human Rights?
Sooo.. What about human rights? What about Privacy? Oh.. They clearly didn't think this through.
So the News of the world aren't allowed to look into one particular person's phone, but it's perfectly fine for them to have data to everyone's phone?
Well, I never liked this country anyway
The British government, however, views it as a “vital” tool against terrorism and serious crime, and the legislation to put it into effect is expected to be proposed in May.
Well it's pretty obvious that criminals would very quickly find a way around something like this as they always do, rendering the whole thing useless and just making things bad for everyone else who isn't a criminal

Oh, and to think the that government was heavily criticising the tabloids for phone hacking...
BREAKING NEWS:In a landslide vote, the Houses of Parliament have decided to rename the United Kingdom 'Air Strip One'.
This scares me because what if I talk to a british person over the phone or on a game? Will my conversation be recorded?
I didn't agree to this shit. God Damn UK Government, have you not seen V for Vendetta? I mean, sure, it's a bit of a far
stretch but we've seen throughout history that the Government is a regulating entity, not a controlling entity.
You put people in too small of a cage and they'll try to break free.
