Disabled it on chrome, going to run a virus scan just to be safe. Thanks OP.
You know as much as I like to be ass-butter here... But aren't you folks overreacting a bit?
Damnit I can't remember if I clicked remind me later yesterday. Better disable just in case.
BUT NOTHING GOD DAMN WORKS WITHOUT JAVA
I think I have 1.6 so I'm probably not affected. I'm probably going to disable it anyway because I rarely ever use Java in my web browser.
Oracle being lazy, what's new about that? Anyways, had a strikingly similar exploit performed on my PC earlier this month; had a rogue page or something download malware disguised as conime and other normally legit services.
You know as much as I like to be ass-butter here... But aren't you folks overreacting a bit?
no because oracle will not fix it until october because of their stupid release cycle
Am I the only one who thinks the article headline is sensationalist as fuck? I mean seriously- I haven't heard anything about this anywhere else.

The only time chrome fucked me over is when it suddenly stopped loading webpages yet any other browser would work just fine. Other then that it was great I guess.
What's the difference with disabling Java and not allowing any Java apps run from certain sites? AFAIK Chrome always asks if I want to run a certain Java app.
Disabled it. Now I'mm gonna have a hard time explaining my parents why they have to disable java..

My dad's laptop is version 6, so he is safe. But the computer has version 7. Disabled it on Firefox and Opera, but my sister isn't letting me disable it on Chrome, because we never use Chrome. She also says that maybe only American computers are affected by this. Also, on my Czech computer, I can't find Java in my Control Panels.
firefox automatically disables java over version 1.7 apparently [editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
I was going to disable it but firefox did it for me.
that's an old version, it's safe. it's disabling it because it's old and not supported anymore.
I literally just caved in and updated. God damnit.
Can you use adblock and greasemonkey on chrome? No you can't, give me a reason why chrome is better I dare you.
Adblock has been ported and greasemonkey scrips are emulated, shut up.
Disabled it. Now I'mm gonna have a hard time explaining my parents why they have to disable java..
Your parents probably don't have it installed, what program that tech illiterates have installed uses java?
What about Java 1.7U6? http://www.java.com/en/download/windows-64bit.jsp Also, for Firefox users that want a 64-bit variant, I highly recommend Waterfox. It's just Firefox, but 64-bit, and has some blue instead of orange. Nothing else will be changed, all plugins, bookmarks, and themes will be the same. www.waterfoxproject.org [editline]28th August 2012[/editline] Firefox seems to have found out about this August 14th. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p125
Your parents probably don't have it installed, what program that tech illiterates have installed uses java?
Any java based browser game maybe.
Firefox blocked Java on the 14th for me due to security/stability issues, apparently.
Woah woah wait a minute there's a java 7? I never knew oh man
And this is why you don't update your shit unless it's broken and the update fixes what's broken.
You know what guys, I saw a thread on /g/ about this shit. A guy was talking about how simple it is to effectively inject a virus into java since it's used just about everywhere and he was going on about a lot of other stuff. And you know what, that guy was right.
Man, the internet is a bit more boring without java
"Don't give them any fucking ideas, you motherfucking shitgubbling retard!" Seriously. Why do experts always have the need to point "the obvious" to the press? What if it wasn't obvious? Good job, you just gave these asshats an a+ tip. Shit son...
OMG help, now I can't say my mac won't get a virus!!11!!111!
