What's stopping them from re-registering with a different E-mail/address?
Virtually every single paid for multiplayer requires proof of identity in the form of a credit card in the very least.
That makes it every subscription based MMO, XB-gold and other venues.
To be honest, the issue with the US sex offender register is that it's far too broad. It would be relatively okay if there were multiple categories with different requirements and common sense on getting on it. I remember there once being a case in the US when a bunch of guys ended up on the register, because parents found an underaged girl's journal and she kept a list of her sexual exploits with similar aged guys.
Then another problem is that the register essentially puts together all crimes under the same list. From public indecency to direct predation on children. And most of means are specifically designed to target those that predate on children not generic offenders.

Also, the Sex Offenders list requires you report every email you make.
Jesus christ, sex offenders get enough shit, don't take away their god damn video games.
I think this is a bad, bad idea. People need to get up off their asses and be goddamn parents, not have the government do the parenting for them. And the MPAA will jump on this if it passes as an opening to pass some bullshit bill that'll bar 'pirates' from internet access.
That's pretty stupid, there's quite a variety of ways to get yourself on the sex offenders register, some nowhere near as extreme as being a paedophile.
Even being a pedophile isn't extreme.
yeah because murderers and thieves would prey on young children online by acting like 16 year old moist girls. :downs:
I still think this is kinda stupid but I see the point they're trying to make.
No, murderers instead claim to be someone else and then fucking murder their target.
Thieves get enough info to commit a planned theft.
this is the most ridiculous shit i've ever read - as many people have said previously, one act that someone might have done so long ago, or did it while he/she was absolutely off their tits, gets them suspended from probably the one thing that lets them get away from everything.
obviously on the other hand, there are those lunatics who actually do attempt to lure kids over games, and the most likely case here is that the people who, god forbid, actually aren't going to do something dodgy on these games, are the ones whose accounts have been "purged", and not the real offenders - if there are any.
I said this in TNN thread and I'll say it here, I knew someone who got charged as a sex offender because they changed clothes in their car. Not in NY mind you but if this spreads out, for doing absolutely nothing, this screws that person.
uh, im p sure a sex offender won't be living with their parents
I mean making sure their kids don't get lured by a sex offender, dude.
video games are the root of all evil
we should ban video games instead
just a continuation in the US's bizarre criminal justice system if you ask me.
where rich white dudes who steal millions of dollars and bankrupt the economy get a more lenient sentence than poor black dudes who steal to survive.
